  1. Sure I can do that, testing is almost as fun as flying meanwhile :) EDIT: excluding the hours with google translator concerning your last hint. ... just to clarify do mean that testing concerning the thread problem or my off topic "black area" testing? Will have an eye on both anyways but still. Concerning the thread problem I can give already some results: DCS 1.1.1.1: -Do it once with SoftTH on - no problem -Do it without softth windowed with Aero on - no problem - and do the same with aero off. DCS 1.2.0 -Do it once with SoftTH on - problem -Do it without softTh windowed with Aero on - and do the same with aero off. ...more tonight or in 2 days
  2. Wrong :) 80% of our both testing in the "seeking best..." thread was done in DCSA10C on my side. I used the same setting in DCSW beta and it worked the same way. But sure will try when I get home. Off topic: Hopefully tonight at all bc have to build the cockpit back together. I finished the stands for the vertical 55" screens btw! So I can give us feedback about the black area and whether or not it drops fps like with metalNwood's setup
  3. That were the arguments on the last couple pages why it would be reasonable, yes...agreed
  4. I'll check as well when I get home. Thanks But why would it suddenly make problems with the dcsw 1.2.0 release and not with anything before that?
  5. I understand but that is always totally up to you, buddy!
  6. Splendid! ...it gets more exiting. Can you let us know whether you use softTH or not? Bc I believe as long as there is the possibility that it occurs in combination with softTH only (though it never did in any recent DCS softwares) ED won't look into it. So you could be our hero! :) bring us salvation!
  7. well said. Yes Let's hope they can afford to keep their word.
  8. In case I started this discussion about this thought, please note nothing was said this way by ED. I just meant given the circumstances it wouldn't surprise me and I wouldn't think its unreasonable
  9. good job! thanks for the insight!
  10. Second that :) Never really thought this dream comes true back in the flanker and lomac times. ...just awesome
  11. I liked "Official Updates" better when it was only accessible by ED so you could always check the date to see if something exiting had happened :)
  12. Well as it is described they didn't expect to do it as it is done now and now they do it themselves and all over. Starting from scratch sounds unexpected to me. And though I get your point of promising and not keeping it I would understand it business wise with a closer look and go with it. But we're extremely speculating here and justifying based on a worse case scenario/assumption! Maybe it all happens as promised.
  13. I thought for a moment you're doing it again :) but then I saw we wrote it almost at the same time :) You'll be fine with 4GB on your primary card in DCS! And for BMS probably with 2GB...any card that can run Minecraft :-p ...just kidding
  14. Remember that the video memory gets very important the more displays you connect/resolution you run! And video memory doesn't add up! So rather go for a 4GB card than 2x2GB (dual GPU cards also have effectively half as much as they say since its split) DCSW on high settings 3xHD pluss some gauges on the 4th and helios on 4th and 5th brings you to ~3,5GB video memory! Rule of thumb is 1GB/HD resolution where a game is running, some a bit less some a bit more. For DCS my estimate is ~900MB/HD
  15. :D probably something that happened in the rush of release by mistyping an alteration with "train car" in a lua file EDIT: kind of as you said already, sorry, hehe
  16. Who knows... when Navada was promised to us beta testers to be free it wasn't a real ED project and also another product as Matt always points out. Wouldn't surprise me if they charge everybody for those unexpected dev/production costs. But would be understandable and reasonable. I'd buy it either way
  17. Thanks for confirming my test results! :) I am sure ED is aware of it anyways but still good to know for those single players out there that they don't have to try, hehe. As long as AI enemy vehicles dont give up positions of friendly ones in MP :(
  18. Basically no news in this interview. Nothing we didn't know yet :-/ Nevada as expected "hopefully" before end of year. Everything subject to change.
  19. very...VERY well said! I second that! I bought everything without even flying all, now please at least finish the basic requirements a sim should have so we can enjoy your work in an appropriate way.
  20. You are right on that particular point. I thought the softTH render surface has to include all used monitors completely without getting stretching. Actually I understood it right but testing wasn't successful so I thought I misunderstood :) (remember at the beginning of this post when I wrote you the pm about being too enthusiastic with some test resolutions so I reedited the post? Those layouts I deleted were of that kind!) Glad I was wrong on being wrong, hehe. That does change everything again, thanks! _____________________________________________________ as soon as you export displays to another monitor/use more than one monitor/have to run window mode for any reason ... I say YES its a must! Or you waste tons of performance and fps And that's just ONE common argument for softTH. Lets just pray that there will be a dx11 version until Nevada comes out. ____________________________________________________________ EDIT: There is still a difference if people don't get or misunderstand things or are just too lazy to search. Like opening the 20th thread about "where can I download DCSW" and "do I have to de-install DCSA10c 1111" etc. In this case it might be last one :)
  21. Yeah I have that in mind all the time...painfully...and I think I will still go for 1200 on that front panel instead of 840. My camera view and exports are covered with the 840 but my "DCS options resolution" and softTH resolution will have to have some empty space below the vertical ones. The overall resolution has to stay 1200 in height on that front panel bc to fit the MFCDs into the panel on that resolution makes them already only 420x420 with is just what I can live with. But on a second thought that might be just what you mean anyways :) Why wouldn't it be? its still on the HD screen. But I do consider building one at a later point and had your thread about that already bookmarked. I also have this book here which gives some great inspirations also to get rid of the visual "close distance" as you have it when using one single reflection. http://www.mikesflightdeck.com/mfdb/bsds/bsds.html But one thing at a time :)
  22. You can extract all the information of the gauges from DCS like from BMS and feed them real-time into Helios. I have a Helios profile for both though I don't really fly BMS (as much as I like the tech detail, I need healthy eyes for my job :) ) These gauges all work realtime: Keep in mind that slower graphic card might slow the whole thing down especially when you use them for for main screens too. softTh helps you getting the most out of those situations as Peter made me learn. He was a great help to me when setting up the graphic part! Video memory is also one of your best friends! I got a card with 4GB for example. Buying 2x 2GB will still use 2GB effectively. Same with dual GPU cards like the gtx 690 bc when it says they have 4gb its actually 2x2GB inside (2 for each GPU inside) For example running the full set pretty high settings and with Helios etc. brings my video memory to ~3,6GB so my fps don't bottleneck here and I am closer to the same setting as single monitor users while enjoying almost same frame rates. @MetalNwood: I can only say don't go horizontal with 3 screens with today's performance. As said before maybe someday you can run a post-distortion correction without significant performance loss. Not yet really. 1. Also no trackIR means you look at super stretched distortion AND can't zoom in when you turn you head bc it will obviously still zoom to center. 2.With trackIR on my setup TIR loses me even when turning my head that far and also then you don't need that head turn if TIR does it for you. 3.Distortion is better when using 3 cameras in the monitor lua but then you can't zoom or use trackIR without going ugly. The portrait mode has a great advantage bc its closer to the aspect of one big screen and your appropriate FOV wont have that much distortion nor do you have to manually adjust luas to bring back the visibility ranges (which doesn't even work completely with lua modding but most of it) I plan to go for PeterP's suggestion, but to hold 55" screen vertically I have to build a new construction which I will have to develop or just build on the fly over some bottles of Vodka like most of the cockpit :) First I finish the panels and hull though
  23. Well alt+tab is not really possible with softTH. I can pseudo alt+tab with softTH (bringing open apps in front of DCS but not minimize) also the common alt+tab issue seemed solved for me when I leave aero on (which I do anyways bc of Helios) but that doesn't fix it. If this is really related to this "freeze by click" problem... well than thank thanks. It seems to get harder and harder for multi monitor users...
  24. The Front panel has a 24" touch (elo) behind it and left and right are 7" usb screens originally meant for fuel and graphic card monitoring. But I don't use them at all now bc usb screens as you know suck a lot performance and I am scared enough using the 7" touch screen in my detachable ICP in the middle. I deal with that when the F18 is there. On the right I have a 23" touch for left and right helios panel and the main screens are 3 x 55" Don't do it! way to big! Its almost 180 degr when the face me all and more than 9feet wide even angled and the lens distortion is ugly. I will either go to only use half of the outta ones or turn them vertically. On the other hand in 2 years the performance is there to run additional distortion correction software on top of this resolution. Looks like this now: Atm I am building the side panels and "fuselage" :) I post the project soon in the cockpit building section with all progress pics. I can PM you then if you like. At least I couldn't get enough cockpit projects to look at...inspires :)
  25. Ok I ran one more freeze-unfreeze-freeze session Can't find anything obvious in there that indicates my ~10 freezes and unfreezes. But reminds me I haven't installed all modules yet gn8 freezeLogs.zip
