That "sonic boom" was me filling my flight suit, hence the "new pants please!!"

Trying to take out a Hawk missile system. Any closer and that missile would have some KA-50 paint on it!

You will get tearing ANYTIME your game is updating at a rate OTHER than a multiple of your monitor refresh rate. For a 60HZ monitor, if you aren't updating at exactly 60/30/20/15/12/10/6/5/4/3/2 you will get tearing. VSYNC forces the game to "wait" until the monitor is ready for another frame.

At NASA, if you sign up for a simulator session without reading the subject material first, the instructor can cancel the class.

Is there an indicator in the cockpit for the speedbrakes?
Woots replied to JEFX's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Only question now is - without an indicator how does the pilot set 40% speedbrake on landing? The TAR method (That's About Right)? -
I do the following to find SAM sites that are painting me: -use the RWR to get a bearing on the SAM that's tracking you - bank to put the SAM at 12 o'clock on the RWR - make the HUD SOI and slew the TDC (small box in HUD) onto the ground off the nose of the aircraft - TMS FWD long to set the TDC as SPI - bank left and put the SAM at my 3 o'clock - china hat FWD long to slave all to SPI - make TGP SOI and start searching Need to be > 17 Kft to have good odds of not being hit.

Maverick ground stabilization....like a broken pencil?

Anybody had any success using 'save cockpit angles'? Seems broken to me.

Was the first thing I tried as part of my initial setup. Didn't work at all so I gave up. -
Yes, you still cycle the markpoints with DMS UP SHORT. Return the STEER PT dial back to FLT PLAN and you're back to cycling steerpoints.
-
Yeah, that is a good video, but you'll find that skipping the above step is much easier. Instead of the above, simply rotate the STEER PT dial to MARK to make the markpoints show up on the HUD.
-
Just a thought here. When I set multiple markpoints for enemy contacts in close proximity, it's hard to tell one markpoint from another using the TAD. If you come around 180 deg and look thru the HUD, it's much easier to distinguish the different markpoints, especially when they're only yards apart from each other. if you do use the TAD, EXP1 or EXP2 would help. Your technique appears to be spot on. IIRC, the markpoints can't be cleared. You have to go thru the entire alphabet before they will overwrite each other. I just scroll thru them backwards, starting from the most recent.

Thanks for the info, I'll do that.

I lost all the menu music with the BETA 2 patch? Am I missing something or is that normal?
-
You don't have to make the target point SPI IIRC. Just get it in the TGP crosshairs and TMS right short to mark it.
-
Right on. Also, one gotchya that got me. If you're using multiple markpoints to bomb multiple targets with the GBU-38 or GBU-31, make sure the markpoints are set as SPI. I somehow had the SPI set on a ground reference by mistake. I dropped 3 GBU-31s, cycling thru 3 markpoints I had made. All 3 GBU-31s hit that one spot of dirt. Make sure the markpoint has a tail on it pointing to the TVV or it's not the SPI and your bombs are not going to hit it. A simple TMS DOWN LONG would have set SPI to steerpoint and the SPI would have been set to each markpoint as I cycled thru them

Questions about the Pattern Approach Described in Maunal
Woots replied to ArphytwoCma's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
It's still not correct. It should be The Answer to The Question About Life, The Universe and Everything Is 42 The proper use of articles is probably the hardest part of learning English as a second language. Cheers! -
I use one of my wife's hair barrettes. They come in a six pack for $9 and can be found in virtually any store that sells shampoo. They come in different sizes, are VERY comfortable and the TrackClip Pro clip mounts securely to it. IMHO, Naturalpoint needs to push this as an easy solution. Their ad just ways that it "fits over-the-ear style headsets" - which doesn't do a lot for people with speakers. I almost didn't buy Trackir because of this.

Minimum required equipment for enjoyable experience?
Woots replied to Mote's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Mote, not trying to stomp on your thread, just wanted to insert a quick question somewhat on topic . . . As far as rudder pedals go, should I go Saitek or CH Products PRO? -
So let me get this straight. You equate being shot at thru trees as though a tactical blunder was made by approaching the target from their blind side. Come again? See above. What's lame is that the "lebels" got implemented as they did. Done as shown above, they can't really be called labels anyway. They're just a slight visual aberration THAT YOU WOULD SEE IN THE REAL WORLD!, they can compensate for limitations of a sim environment (2D, fake trees, limited colors, etc) and still keep it challenging. A little pompous that. Don't assume that just because some are trying to integrate the labels to offset sim limitations that they somehow haven't gotten the basics down.
-
Thanks DTWD I'll look at the stuff on your list. Funny thing though is that, for the desktop, a GUI comes up with arrows you slide to shrink or stretch the display - but it shows you the new resolution as a result. I.e. the "shrink" option is just lowering the resolution. And again, it's not just the desktop I had to lower. Each game was too big with the new driver - I had to select the next lower resolution in BS to get the subtitles to fit (1910x1065 or some goofing resolution like that).
-
I've read the arguments for/against using labels - how on the one hand it's not realistic to use them but on the other neither is a 2D world with 256 colors and sh*t shooting at you through trees. I'd play "convoy hunt" and with the labels on you'd see huge splotches of blue, giving them away immediately which was boring. But if I'd play "convoy hunt" without labels they would take me out every time prior to me seeing them (usually by their escorts shooting me thru the trees). And not to mention the missions that have troops in the forest! Anyway, I didn't come up with this, I actually read it on this forum somewhere but it works so well I wanted to pass it along. I edited the labels.lua file so that ground units have a "0" at 5 km and less. Weapons have a "+" and naval units have a "^". That's all - no unit number, range and all the junk that clutters the screen. "Convoy Hunt" is now truly "cat and mouse". You only see the convoy < 5 km and even then they're just the slightest discoloration against the background. Sometimes you think you see a discoloration when it's not - so it really screws with your mind. Individual troops and units are really hard to see, so it takes alot of scanning which I think is realistic - the brief told you they'd be there but you still have to work hard to see them. Anyway, it might be old news to some but it was an easy fix that I read somewhere that changes the game fundamentally for me. Thought I'd share.

While we're talking Nvidia drivers. Anyone have problems with their desktop and games being too big to fit on the screen with the new patch? I'm running my desktop at 1920x1080 (native resolution of my plasma monitor) but I couldn't fully see the task bar on the desktop after updating to the new driver that just came out a couple of weeks ago. The only option was to reduce the resolution a notch. Had to do this in BS and BC2 also so I could see the subtitles. You'd think Nvidia could get something as basic as the resolution to work correctly.
