That looks awesome! I had seen the vid on YT but not this frame. Cockpit...snow.... -
Change AMD 5900 for intel? Advice please
Hoirtel replied to markturner1960's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I've always thought they were good although I've only ever bought parts from them. Good to know you have had good experience with thier build side. Like I said I don't know what happened lots of sides that story probably. -

There is a twitch Flight Sim streamer that has had a really bad recent experience with scan. They had destroyed a mobo, graphics card and left the cooling loop loose so the thermals went crazy. Sounded a bit crazy, don't know any more details.... -

I knew there was something a bit more involved when it came to AMD and RAM speeds, but not had any experience with it. Seems you have researched it very well! -
Change AMD 5900 for intel? Advice please

Based on single core performance it should be better, however its the sum of all the parts and setting them up that has the final outcome. Any PC can run DCS badly.... -

Yeah single core performance is what you need to check. You should run HWINFO and see if there are any other bottlenecks that might be reducing perf outside of CPU and GPU. First thing I think of is RAM and its speed. I'm not very experienced with this on AMD but the effective speed this runs at is all controlled by the CPU. -
F/A18E/F Super Hornets block 1 and BLock 2 E/F ( lot 26)
Hoirtel replied to Kev2go's topic in DCS Core Wish List
You are right. It becomes difficult to define how far to go and would almost certainly be a slippery slope. It would be fun to try, and would love to do it on a super hornet, but can't see this being a worthwhile addition as there are so many airframes that should come first. -

Player to player tanking in some form would be a great addition to DCS multiplayer. Even if it was unrealistically implemented on our C model.. however, given the "discussions" over the ability to use 4 harms on the viper I can't see the purists allowing any of this. Even if just not using it was an option. Maybe we will get the KA-6. that would be better, but I don't see a whole module being reworked for this purpose. -
Thinking of getting a Pimax 8K X - is it worth it over a Reverb G2?
Hoirtel replied to Notso's topic in Virtual Reality
I wonder about one of these too. I am sure its great visuals but I have heard you have to buy other base stations and controllers which make an already expensive purchase really expensive. I don't feel too bothered about the expanded FOV - probably because I haven't experienced it but I'm always waiting for better visuals! I think that this sort of experience will be available much cheaper in a year or two so I will probably wait. However if money were no object I would take the plunge. -
First time you fly under a bridge in VR or first BFM - I came away from those laughing out loud!!!
-
Welcome to the VR club. We always want more - but can't ever go back! After well over a year of only flying in VR its the only thing for me. If I ever do any quick mission testing in 2D, I feel like I am interacting with someone's youtube video....

Those terms sound like you are using OTT and I can't remember exactly what those are doing relative to the debug tool which is what I use. It's very possible the ghosting you were seeing was because you were using a mode where asw wasn't active. Vsync on in game isn't something I have done but as I said I swear by vsync fast for Nvidia. Could be something that is helping you on AMD. If it works, just enjoy it! You will always be tweaking settings and you will learn more about it as you go. The odd "wiggly" bits you describe is probably the artifact s from asw. It's very good, but the is some penalty for using it. It's fine once you stop looking for it. Main thing to do now is enjoy the sim!

Btw - I have the official cable and never reads anything close to 5gb. 1.8 - 2.something i think.

VR can be difficult to tune correctly and learning all the tools is what takes the time. The main problem however is that it is very subjective. When you say blurry, what do you mean? What airframe are you using and what is the smallest thing you can read without moving your head too much from a conventional flying position? For example my limit is in the F18, from a normal flying position, the pressure setting numbers on the back up altitude indicator are just readable.
-
The whole point of asw is to give you full fps when all you can render is half. So 45/90, 40/80, 36/72.
-
For me the fps usually gets locked at the reprojection ratio. So when it's on I have no idea what the actual framerate is above 40 (45 for 90hz).
-
Agree with all this. Shadows to flat helps, I run cockpit shadows on low. My experience with ASW is that unless you can reach full fps most of the time then auto isn't great. I get a smoother performance locking to half (40 in my case) with ASW enabled. I occasionally can peak to over 80 and the switching on auto makes for stutters. I also find that for me as a Nvidia user having vsync set to fast is essential. This really helps cleanly lock down to the reprojection rate. If you have a similar AMD mode then try that too.
-
OTT to me sounds like oculus tray tool. A third party app for controlling the debug tool. I don't use OTT either, I just use the debug tool. Don't try and use both if that what you are doing. I don't think you mentioned OTT previously I really wouldn't bother with a reshade mod, up to you but I have no experience with this on Q2. I did once try one when I had a G2 and wasn't impressed, looked rubbish to me, but each to their own. I have things very sharp with oculus at full res. Its difficult to know what's going wrong for you but the ghosting/double effect is caused by poor frametime/high latency. If you are over reprojection rate then maybe one specific thing is holding you back? I guess if you are using steam vr, get fpsvr and measure performance. I would ditch steamvr and the shade. Use HWINFO to measure what your hardware is doing. Run a track with the headset sensor covered that ay you can read the diagnostics on the screen while its in full VR. Not the best way of testing but should help with those big problems. Fine tune to experience later.

The oculus graphics slider should be the first one you use and probably the only one. Its not a super sampling slider but having this on max is what it needs for its full resolution. Oculus only have this so you can adjust it down for lower end systems. of course they actually want to control this automatically via the "recommended" switch - however it always knocks it down lower than I can run it so I max it. Worth noting that with this at full any other SS setting will be a larger step, i.e 10% is now bigger. Therefore you are unlikely to use it especially with MSAA. My 3090 runs it a max in oculus and 2x MSAA really well. Any SS/PD will start to cripple it. If you set the oculus slider lower and raise it in SS/PD this is pointless. If you really want SS, then use it in the debug tool. Steam is the same but no point leaving it to a separate program - just let oculus do it. Don't use in game PD. Not required.
-
I'm afraid I have no experience with any AMD cards, I do have some experience with the quest 2 and I can see a few points that might help. I don't think you need to use steam VR. Definitely not for stand alone DCS, and I'm sure steam DCS is the same. DCS actually supports oculus natively and so you should avoid adding more programs in the chain if you don't need to. Oculus debug tool - with the last few updates I now leave bitrate and width at 0. Oculus is now able to manage these on its own. If you do use bitrate then 350 is more than enough and width will still be best automatically. Oculus debug tool - distortion curve high is more distorted than low. Although this probably will allow a little extra performance. Oculus graphics in oculus app - Try setting at 80hz? This allows slightly higher frame time while allowing smooth. I don't see a difference from 90. 72 is too flickery for me but this will be even easier still Oculus graphics in oculus app - I have a high end gpu so I set the res slider all the way to the right you should too. Makes a huge difference but don't add any PD or SS anywhere else! DCS Settings - MSAAx4 this is a very heavy setting. I too don't like the jaggies and this really does remove them but at the cost of lots of fps and it also reduces general sharpness slightly. Also something(s) to try. I select 0.9 for FOV on both vertical and horizontal which I barely notice but does improve performance a little. Hope that helps.

DCS: de Havilland DH.98 Mosquito FB Mk VI Discussion

Pictures looking good. This means there will be an update in the newsletter today! -
Really? In DCS? I've never noticed...
-
Yeah I thought it might be automatic and to do with the negative g. Never heard of this on any other jets? Is it just because the typhoon has so much g onset?
-
Just wondering if anyone might know the answer to this. I was at an airshow recently and saw a solo display from the RAF Typhoon. During a -3g turn there was visible fuel venting from the tail which the commentator pointed out, but didn't explain. I was wondering why this happens, is it automatic? Is it procedure? Seems unusual? This display was actually filmed and the venting can be seen at 5:35.

Yeah you can use them as seperate targets. Just don't undesignate. I haven't tried the too rippling in a while but there have been a couple of YT vids showing this with slewing to the targets then select next TOO, step and so on. The undesignate seems to be a clear all function which I guess for targets of opportunity makes sense I suppose.
