  1. Six more NATO camouflage Sabres uploaded to DCS, now available: 413 "Tusker" http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/1412277/ 416 "Lynx" http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/1412253/ 421 "Red Indian" http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/1412275/ 430 "Silver Falcon" http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/1412276/ 439 "Sabre-Toothed Tiger" http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/1412278/ 444 "Cobra" http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/1412273/
  2. Updated 410 RCAF "Cougar" Squadron Mk.5 23300 to latest standard. Available for download HERE: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/828475/
  3. Final Grostenquin camo scheme... Mk.5 23168 of No. 416 (Lynx) Squadron, 2 (Fighter) Wing, circa 1955.
  4. Another Grostenquin resident, Canadair Sabre Mk.6 23459 of No. 421 (Red Indian) squadron, 2 (Fighter) Wing. And from 4 (Fighter) Wing, Mk.6 23472 of No. 444 (Cobra) Squadron, RCAF Station Baden-Soellingen, circa 1956.
  5. Sabre Mk.6 23399 of No. 430 (Silver Falcon) Squadron, No. 2 (Fighter) Wing, RCAF Station Grostenquin, France, circa 1956. I haven't decided if I'll release the Mk.6 skins separately, or in a Mk.6 Super Duper skin pack ;)
  6. VERY cool. Always loved the Fury.
  7. Yeah, the 410 update is imminent as I've been revamping my camo template. Had to split everything up into separate metal and camo templates. Gimp was choking on it, over 100 layers... The OTU skins are ready, had a couple of small errors to fix, as well as general template improvements to add. And then... Italy, RAF, and Yugoslavia. Then maybe Greece and Turkey.
  8. You've probably already done this Skull, but you can delete the f-86f_gear_RCAF texture from the older updates and replace it with the texture from the more recent updates. Then all skins will have the new speedbrake texture.
  9. Quite alright, all kidding aside, the "Red Ensign" flag was the national flag of Canada, at least until February of 1965, when it was replaced by the present day flag with the maple leaf. As we stated above, Manitoba and Ontario use ensigns as provincial flags, and some former British colonies (Bermuda, Australia, New Zealand, etc) still retain ensign style national flags today. As for the orientation, the union jack corner would be closest to the flag pole when flying from a building, ship, etc. On aircraft it was placed so that the union jack would be 'leading' on both sides, as if flying back from a pole when the aircraft was flying. @Skulleader, the speed brake texture was updated after I started updating my skins, the first updates won't have it (yet), try the camo 441, and bare metal 413 and 422 skins.
  10. Dude, can't you see that's the Ontario flag? Or is it Bermuda? ;)
  11. Sabre Mk.6 23513 of No. 439 "Sabre-Tooth Tiger" Squadron, Marville, France, circa 1956. Famous "Fang" tail art, code letters and numbers on fuselage were spaced out during this period to clear the speed brakes. Coming soon.
  12. Thanks Mate, haven't forgotten about the AM Sabres, skins to come :)
  13. The Mk.6... The Mk.6 was the most potent Sabre Canadair built. With a more powerful engine than the Mk.5's and the eventual return to a slatted wing, the Mk.6 could out climb, out turn, and overtake anything else NATO had in the late fifties. The Mk.6 continued to serve NATO until being phased out in 1963, and replaced in Europe by the CF-104 Starfighter. Tom Stafford, NASA astronaut, managed to wangle about 10 hours in the Mk.6 while he was stationed in West Germany, flying the all-weather F-86D in the 1950s. He was so impressed by it's performance he devoted a paragraph to the aircraft in his biography! Although most Mk.6 Sabres were built with slatted wings, the first 200-odd came off the assembly line retaining the hard-edged, fenced 6-3 wing like the Mk.5 had. They were eventually refitted with the slatted 6-3 wing in service. Sabre Mk.6 23402, of No. 413 "Tusker" Squadron, RCAF Station Zweibrücken. Fuselage marking string was moved aft around this time, to be more visible at various aircraft attitudes. Eventually 1 Air Division ditched the two letter squadron code and replaced it with the block letters "RCAF" ahead of the nationality marking on both sides, and the last three numbers of the serial aft. Here's a couple pics of the aircraft in service, the first before the squadron tail art was finished, note the wing fence on the port wing: And the aircraft later on, after the wings had been updated to the slatted version:
  14. 441 RCAF Camouflaged Canadair Sabre Mk.5 23314 of No. 441 "Silver Fox" Squadron, No. 1 (Fighter) Wing, RCAF Station Marville, France, circa 1955. '314 still flies today, as "Hawk One", operated by Vintage Wings in Gatineau, Quebec, Canada. This is how she appeared as a front line fighter with NATO in the mid-fifties. Added some more weathering effects, more chips, weathered paint, scratches, etc. Available here: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/1410219/
  15. NEW: 439 RCAF Sabre Mk.5 Hadn't done a 1 (F) Wing Sabre in natural metal finish yet, so here's one. Canadair Sabre Mk.5 23182 of No. 439 "Sabre-Toothed Tiger" Squadron, No. 1 (Fighter) Wing, RCAF Station Marville, France, circa 1955. As with the other natural metal RCAF Sabres of the era, 23182 wears standard 1 Air Division markings, this time with red ID stripes on nose and tail to denote 1 (F) Wing. 439 squadron pilots' helmets were painted yellow, with red stripe(s) running fore and aft, representing pilot rank. I haven't quite solved the mapping issues on the helmet yet so the stripes will have to wait ;) Available here http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/1410152/
  16. Updated: Sabre 23108 of No. 413 "Tusker" Squadron, No. 3 (Fighter) Wing, RCAF Station Zweibrücken, West Germany. Available HERE: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/900887/
  17. NEW - 422 Sqn. "Tomahawks" Natural Metal Thought I'd throw in a new one... Canadair Sabre Mk.5 23049 of No. 422 "Tomahawk" Squadron, No. 4 (Fighter) Wing, RCAF Station Baden-Söllingen, West Germany, circa 1955. Standard 1 Air Division markings with the exception of non-standard squadron and aircraft code letters. 4 Wing seemed to use a different font than the rest of 1 Air Div... wasn't until the Sabres were camouflaged that they started using the familiar RCAF letter style :) Available here http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/1410148/
  18. Updated 416 Squadron RCAF 23151: Available HERE: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/900896/
  19. Finished adding the various placards
  20. Finally got around to improving the interior texture of the speed brakes. My previous version had a couple of errors. Not sure if I like the paint chipping effect I put along the top edge, looks more like wet silver paint that dripped ;-/ I'm really not great at weathering... Also tweaked the internal plumbing appearance based on period photos:
  21. 23187 of No. 434 "Bluenose" Squadron, 3 (Fighter) Wing, RCAF Station Zweibruecken, West Germany. Available HERE: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/893776/
  22. Not a bug, but would it be possible to get templates for the pilot and helmet textures, with the mesh layers? Would make it much easier to skin as the helmet texture especially has some weird mapping. Thanks!
  23. Next up, Sabre 23058 of No. 421 "Red Indian" Squadron, 2 (Fighter) Wing, RCAF Station Grostenquin, France. Note: Squadron helmet art is simplified now as I haven't quite figured out the mapping on the helmet texture. Dear Belsimtek, any chance of proper helmet and pilot templates, with mesh layers? Cheers :) Available HERE: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/900881/
