  1. Shh, quiet!!! You'll spoil the surprise! ;)
  2. Sky Lancers '55 now available http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/779728/
  3. Ok... Having updated my templates to match the latest game version I will be re-posting my RCAF Sabre skins (as well as fictional Israeli ones ) to the User Files section of the DCS website. Watch this space... First up is an updated Sky Lancers 1955 scheme: Note the lack of Canadian coat of arms "shield" on the flag is intentional. The aircraft depicted hadn't had it painted on yet in period photos! All updated skins will have authentic pilot figures including appropriate flying clothing, as well as helmet and unit insignia textures. Aircraft internals updated to latest game version. I'm starting to weather the aircraft now, although this one will stay relatively clean as it was an airshow performer. I'll update this thread as the new skin versions are accepted by DCS. Also planned for release are: Sabre Mk.5 - More OTU/STU trainers, as well as 1 Air Division front line fighters. Sabre Mk.6 - early, hard-edged variant in service with 1 Air Division, as well as fictional IDF (Israel) Sabres. Sabre Mk.4/F-86E(M) - Lend Lease Canadair-built Sabres as used by the AMI (Italy), RAF, and maybe some Greek and Yugoslav ones as well! Stay Tuned
  4. Another training skin, Canadair Sabre Mk.5 23314 of the Sabre Transition Unit, RCAF Station Chatham, New Brunswick, Canada, circa 1965. The STU used the Sabre as a lead-in aircraft for training pilots assigned to the CF-104 Starfighter. Tactical fighter skills were learned before the pilot was posted to 6 OTU at Cold Lake, Alberta, to learn to fly the 104. Today '314 flies on as Hawk One, part of the Vintage Wings collection in Gatineau, Quebec.
  5. Starting to dirty them up, and adding paint chips. W.I.P of course, I'm not great at weathering, some of the chips need to be scaled down ;)
  6. Try very top, between light lenses and fuselage holes.
  7. Progress: Italian Air Force, 4th Stormo 434 RCAF, Zweibruecken, West Germany 416 RCAF, Grostenquin, France
  8. Found the T-shirt ;) ...and the khaki parachute pack.
  9. Back to the Sabre after a break doing some other skin work, big changes it seems, new pilot, new 200 gal ferry tanks (thanks :)), among other things. Experimenting with the pilot textures... Pity no visor ;) Playing with colours, call it a 1950s L1-A blue flying suit. 421 Squadron painted their helmets red, a little too candy apple right now on the virtual pilot ;) Canadians in Europe wore a mix of flying gear, a lot of pilots preferred the combination G4E Ànti-G Pneumatic Coverall, basically a one-piece sage green nylon flying suit with integral bladders. You can see them in the pic below, and the inflation hose on the left side of the body of second pilot from right. And here: 200 Gallon tanks are a nice addition for those long flights. Here`s a pic of my old man`s ride, snapped in Grosseto, Italy, during the return to France from a deployment to Greece in October, 1962: Vespa will be interested in the artwork on the ground power units, most likely borrowed from the 4th Stormo... just to the right of the intake you can see the stallion painted on the GPU. As in: Speaking of ferry tanks... No. 1 OFU (Overseas Ferry Unit) flew many new Sabres across the North Atlantic during the fifties, replacing older aircraft with upgraded ones. I should do an OFU pilot too. So back to work I go... anybody know where the T-shirt texture is on the F-86 pilot diffuse layer... :) BTW, the knee board texture on the virtual pilot above is much more interesting in real life: ;)
  10. Thanks for the updated template SkateZilla :)

    Skin request

Never fear, getting back into it. Was working on some stuff for a different sim. Now I need to get used to all the changes since I last looked at the F-86 :)
  12. Here, I fixed that for you: ;)
  13. Crap, I read the thread title and immediately thought they released new piolt figure models for the F-86...
  14. Hi OilcanHarry, All skins are available for DL on the DCS homepage under User Files. Search my handle and you'll find all the Sabre stuff I've uploaded. Caveat - I've paused for a bit, we still don't even have an official skinning template, usually when things get patched I have to go back and update the skins if the mapping has been changed etc. I've still got a lot of stuff planned but I'm working on some skins for my online squad for a different sim right now :)
  15. Yeah, it's happened to me before if I let the nose down too fast after touchdown. Crunch. BTW, nice paint scheme :D
  16. That second shot is worthy of being a desktop background :)
  17. Ok, quick question for Belsimtek - Why can't I change the colour of the paint on any of the grey panels, on Cockpit Texture #4??? Have tried everything and it still shows up as grey in the game. Also don't know why I can't change the ADI pitch markings or the red needle on the ASI, nothing works. Is there something the game keeps defaulting back to? TIA :)
  18. Black Cockpit Working on black cockpit for Italian/RAF Sabres.
  19.
  20. Ok, so after banging my head against the wall for a while (where is that particular smiley, anyway?), I tried changing the 'A' from lowercase to uppercase and I swear that did it... Sheesh. Cheers, Bo! I'm out of town with work the next four days, when I get back I'll upgrade my existing skins with new squadron specific helmets. The RCAF's first jet age helmet was a variant of the USN H-4 called the H-4-1, originally worn with those late war Polaroid M1944 goggles and later with a Canadian-designed visor. A separate cloth/nylon mesh liner was worn under the hard shell, which held the radio headphones and O2 mask attachment hardware. It fastened to the outer shell with a couple of snaps, one on each side. 440 "Red Bat" Squadron The issued bone domes came from Gentex in basic white, but were painted in squadron colours once the wearer was posted to an operational squadron. Another example: 439 Squadron H-4-1 outer shell in yellow with single medium width 'fore and aft' red stripe indicating rank of Flying Officer (F/O), equivalent to a Lieutenant. I believe 439 was the only squadron to exhibit rank on helmets. This example is over 50 years old and has darkened with age. W/C JP Bell, C.O. of 439 Squadron, '60-62, with squadron mascot, note multiple helmet stripes denoting rank of Wing Commander. In game (brighter/younger): Going to make the '439' a bit bigger and play with the visor alpha so it's not so transparent. Sabre-era 439 patches - left one came later with the Mk.6 Sabre and the famous "Fang" tail art. Middle one is 'experienced', right one never used. "Fang" on the Mk.6:
  21. Moving in a different direction. With Vespa's help, currently researching something new to me: Che bella ragazza! :)
  22. RCAF 1 Air Division Sabres Ok, uploaded a back log of skins, should be available soon... 413 RCAF "Tuskers" 414 "Black Knight" 416 "Lynx" Each skin file contains period RCAF pilot skin with appropriate squadron shoulder patches and RCAF Sabre cockpit textures.
