Yeah I answered in the WWII forum thread: http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2512634&postcount=3

In 1985 I was at Cold Lake on a national leadership summer camp as a teenage air cadet. The Hornets still had that "new car smell" then... Torture for an airplane geek to be expected to keep eyes front on the parade square as the CF-18s would blast off each early morning.

Yes, would also like to see this option. 1950s in Canada: 443 Sqn, RCAF 403 Sqn, RCAF

I've tried it in the game and you're right. Usually on the ground but also in flight, if the engine is allowed to spool right down you'll get an asymmetric flap event. At low speed it causes an uncommanded roll and could potentially ruin your day. Mechanical interconnect is supposed to prevent this from occuring. I could maybe see the flaps being slower to move with only one motor driving the whole works but not one up one down...
-
Not sure this should be happening. Each flap was electrically actuated, powered by the primary bus. If the generator is not online (too low idle) perhaps the flaps should not work, but they were protected from any asymmetry by being mechanically connected to each other. This way, one flap motor could drive both flaps if required. From the F-86F manual (highlighting my own):

Just fooling around with markings right now, this could be a whole lot of fun when it's flyable... always thought it would be a cool personal aircraft, if the Queen was kind enough to keep the tanks topped up for me ;) No, Canada never flew the F-5E, but certain improvements made by Canadair to the original F-5 (two-position nose gear, louvered aux engine doors, etc.) did find their way into the F-5E design.

Has there been changes to the Spec lighting in 1.5 (ala EDGE)? My F-86 skins look like they've all been dipped in liquid chrome :music_whistling: :) -
Yes, it's possible. I can't remember where the ejected texture is located or what it's called. It is different from the usual pilot texture, much simpler, and, if memory serves, uses a single arm mirrored on both sides so shoulder patches are out :-/

Thanks guys, available here now: http://lockon.co.uk/en/files/1459721/ http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/1459721/ Midnight, if you can, please let me know about any Afrikaans errors so I can correct them :)

Canadair Sabre Mk.6 #383 of No. 85 Advanced Flying School, AFB Pietersburg, South Africa, circa late 1970s. The Canadair Sabre entered service with the SAAF in 1956, and served with Eskader 1 and Eskader 2 until the mid-sixties. After they were replaced as front line fighters by the Mirage, the Sabres continued to serve the SAAF in the advanced training role with No. 85 AFS until 1980. NOTES: This skin is "semi-historical" - the Sabre 6's in service with the SAAF had leading edge slats. This skin uses a mix of English and Afrikaans servicing stencils which will be updated as I get more information. Apologies for any errors in Afrikaans spelling/grammar. The SAAF is not represented in DCS World. Select USA or CANADA as your country to use this skin. Awaiting approval by DCS.

Great pic! I know nothing about the -40 Sabres flown by the PAF, only the Canadair-built ones. Are you planning a camo Canadair version? If so I'll leave you to it :)
-
Camo finished, still have all my hair... Sooo.... anybody know where the landing light surrounds are mapped from? Still haven't figured out where they are on the template, not where you'd think they'd be anyway... Sorry, no slats :)
-
Always loved this camo scheme, although it's a bugger to line things up given the mapping along the top of the fuselage. :)
-
:) Might need help with translating some stencils. So, Ejection Seat = Uitskiet Stoel? Kick Step = Skop Trap? Etc
-
Something new... W.I.P. of course: So... who wants to teach me Afrikaans? :)

Thanks for comments guys, available now here: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/1447127/

Uploaded to DCS, awaiting approval. Went with the pointed version of the fuse stripe, was a bugger to get lined up right. Little bonus ;) README contains instructions on how to install black cockpit textures for full effect.

By request, F-86F of Capt. Manuel J. "Pete" Fernandez... Still tweaking stuff, have to change some of the stencils and so forth. Does anybody know if Fernandez' Sabre had the rounded fuselage band or did it come to a point on top like I have it now? I've seen both styles in pics of Korean war-era Sabres. This is not my area of expertise... ;) As far as I can tell, Fernandez flew a very early F model Sabre, still with the narrow chord, slatted wing, and with the cockpit finished in matte black. Can't do anything about the wings... :) Thanks to forum member Veles for reference pics. Coming soon.

MDAP Livery Sabres in RAF service were purchased using funds provided by the United States under the MDAP (Mutual Defense Assistance Program), and built/supplied by Canadair Ltd. in Montreal, Canada. When the RAF brought new types like the Hawker Hunter into service, the Sabres were "returned" to the previous owner, the U.S. Air Force, and immediately sold to other NATO countries like Italy and Yugoslavia. An interim paint scheme was used while the aircraft were 'in limbo', consisting of a combination of RAF and U.S. markings, with RCAF serial numbers. eg: While this isn't exactly a tactical livery by any means I thought it was cool and an interesting plot point in history :) Canadair Sabre Mk.4/F-86E(M) 19764 This particular aircraft served with No.66 Squadron, based at RAF Linton-on-Ouse before being struck off charge and scrapped at Lasham, England, in 1973.
