  1. here it is, that's my masterpiece :D :D :D ok, I know it sucks... anyway that was just to give a rough idea of the size of the two things coupled... And there are a lot of details which could make this pic realistic... the F-15 belongs to a TES (Test and Evaluation Squadron) and the pilot, if you look close, is clearly looking down in the cockpit which means he's obviously looking for that damn "PATRIOT LAUNCH" button :D LOL! he's saying "WTH, I can't find that damn button in my vanilla F-15 manual" :)
  2. like my C64 used to say... "Syntax error" :D the article describes that "it could defeat cruise missiles and intercept ballistic missiles in their boost phase"... that means when they're launched, which in turn means that the F-15 should be on CAP over north korea (in this example) or in other example, cruise missiles are launched from boats off the U.S. shores... even there, I don't find it realistic.... attack boats like subs, can approach their targets in a stealth way, then launch the missiles and disappear... the warning to such attacks, if any, would be very short... I find it hard for the F-15s to be useful in this roles Keep in mind that such missile attacks are very quick... in in 9/11 the US defense didn't manage to intercept some airliners after a 15-30 minutes warning! It's all about lobbies... tomcat/phoenix was expensive, but surely less that planning, designing, testing and buying a brand new system, that's for sure! Yes, there was maintenance, but new tomcats with planned digital equipment refurbishment, were much easier and less time-consuming to maintain... The tomcat, being a large aircraft, had plenty of room for expansions, that's one thing everybody credit to it, many people find that it was a much more stable multirole platform than the F-15E... LOL... just equipping the F-16 with the amraam usually required a major overhaul. and it's quite a normal weapon. The patriot surely isn't a common air-launched weapon ;) The ASAT F-15 wasn't a common F-15 equipped with the ASAT missile under the belly ;) I don't think they could make it in time, unless they were on CAP over NK. The missile boost phase is quite quick. Given that the f-15 should scramble, fly some hundred miles and launch, they will take at least from 10 to 30 minutes. By that time the missile is already re-entering to hit. And BTW, I don't think that Patriot sites in Japan or SK could even detect and track launches in deep NK territory... there are mobile launchers. they need very little time to setup an attack. and they can fool satellites, especially if there is bad weather. The coalition forces in 1991 were hardly able to spot any scud launcher in Iraq, despite all that flat land and all that aircraft flying in the sky... north korea and other nations have better structures than former iraq for ICBM launches you should be more than sceptical ;)
  3. ok, do they know what "ready-5" stands for? in civilians' language that means ready within five minutes, not seconds... how could you plan to scramble a fighter against a missile? Fighters are scrambled against aircraft not missiles. There's a good reason for that... a cap makes more sense, something like an anti-scud cap... but even there, how could the patriot radar track over-the-horizon or at very long range? instead of doing this bs, why not upgrade Phoenix and keep the Tomcat, or at least equip the f-18e with phoenix? The main reason why the tomcat was phased out was that it was expensive to maintain. But at least it did the job, and it did it well! Now they're planning to spend a ton of money around a thing that's not even likely to work! ok now it's scientifically proven that the us military is industry/lobby-driven!
  4. sorry I meant the template ;) great work anyway I'll give you another rep as soon as the system will allow me to do so :)
  5. is there a way to remove that bar @ default? some lua or config file?
  6. AFAIK the rights for LockOn are held by UbiSoft, those of FC are held by ED... so I don't think there's a real marketing reason behind this. Not to be cruel, but I see it more as a measure to get rid of old game stocks.
  7. hi, could it already be downloaded?
  8. I thought the future carrier would have this aircraft component: F/A-18E/F : fighter-bomber EA-18G Prowrnet: SEAD-EW E-18C HornetEye: early warning (AWACS) EH-18 SeaHornet: helicopter version of the F-18 C-18 GreyHornet: COD T-18 GosHornet: aircrew training :D
  9. yes it can, but this one is a bare skin, it can be used WITH the flyable F-16 mod.... and dude, "just for a skin".... skins take a great amount of time to get some decent output, and Valery has already done an EXCELLENT work with his skins ;)
  10. maybe in the Mod section we could post a sticky thread for each category to put mods into.... that is, a thread for skins, a thread for sounds and so on... just to use as an index...
  11. There is a "Mod" section on this forum... it's there on purpose... http://forum.lockon.ru/forumdisplay.php?f=40 and IMHO it's even better than a single thread which becomes quite unusable after a while....
  12. Mitch's desert mod is great... I'm also pleased someone's still using my F-16 desert skin :)
  13. http://zaable.com/media/3818/F14_Pilots_Catapulted_from_0_to_180_MPH_in_200_Ft./ includes HUD footage, some other nice footage, and pilots' "explicit" audio ;)
  14. That's sad, in "Gunship!" (2001 sim from microprose) soldiers used to rush from the back of APCs (if they weren't killed before), take position on the ground and fire...
  15. I got my everlasting 10% warning for criticizing the same thing (and hijacking a similar screenshot thread to tell that ED allows for better 3D modelling of ground units without fixing Lomac code before) and I got one positive reputation point for my T-72 templates (avalable on my site, this is advertising ;) ) Some guys around here seem to push for a ground Lomac ;) LockOn: Modern Armor Combat :D BTW, just kiddin' guys... :)
  16. You're not old, you just know what the Tomcat used to do... ;)
  17. You could try to solve something more interesting for the rest of mankind ;) http://www.planetary.org/programs/projects/apophis_competition/ save the world and earn 50,000 $ (BTW I find this prize a bit small, given that you could save mankind from destruction)
  18. Dogfights or fights WVR can still happen. That is because often visual ID is still required by RoE. That obviously puts superior forces to disadvantage, because WVR is much more dangerous and unpredictable. While this not being the rule, it may still be the case, even in present days. If you remember, many kills done by USAF recently were made WVR... maybe with AMRAAMS, but still within a few miles.. you could clearly see bandits and fireballs in the HUD footage.
  19. great book, but you could buy it... you can find it on Amazon or eBay for a few bucks...
  20. yes, I've found this font and it's called, guess what... "blade runner" ;)
  21. The Typhoon is a new generation aircraft. And watching it at the airshows you can understand what that means. I've seen footage of F-15 airshows and you see it's powerful, that climbs and turns extremely well. But the Typhoon (I've seen it live) can do other things, that probably the F-15 is unable to do. That means maneuvres similar to Kobras, where, instead of _turning_ the aircraft actually points the nose... I saw a vertical loop that was closed in really few hundred feets. At top of the loop the Typhoon actually reversed like paper-planes, in a snap... just incredible! And, the eurofighter has builit-in stealth features, with an impressive and brand-new avionics array, included HMS tech. I'm not the biggest EF fan (even though is a very good ac) but I think it could perform better than the F-15 in the AA arena. Having said that, fighters don't fight alone, they depend on the entire war machine, and to integrated defense/attack systems (like AWACS) so it's often difficult to judge fighters for 1on1 fights like we try in Lomac... ;)
  22. As I read in an interview to one of the engineers that worked both on F-15 and F-16 designs, the Eagle was built large also in order to have room enough to house future enhancements. And it's a good aircraft, a damn good aircraft. But I think that the airframes start to get older, and this can be a severe problem (it was one of the problems that also contributed to F-14 retirement... there were too few young airframes, and keeping just a few squadrons was prohibitively expensive). When an airframe gets close to its lifetime limits, flying becomes dangerous and overhauls can be extremely expensive. Anyway, even if the military budget of the US government has recently grown, it's more oriented to counter-terrorism and building brand-new things. This may not always be the right choice, but behind brand-new aircraft there are often political/economical/industrial/lobby interests, that often overcome the real needs of the military. That's a dejavou, it recently happened with Tomcat and SuperBug. Anyway the Eagle has already won a battle for its future. If you read older aviation articles you find out that the F-22 was scheduled to _replace_ the Eagle in the late 90s, early 2000's. Now, closing to 2007, the F-22 just _integrates_ the Eagle in the USAF.
  23. We finally found the reason why BS has been delayed... They made Lomac 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0 meanwhile...
  24. Well, the first F-104s had downward ejection seats. Imagine if they were implemented in this car... :D My first car (I'm Italian) was a '83 Fiat Ritmo, received from my grandpa in 1996. I recently knew that it was exported also to USA back in the 80s but with the name of "Strada" because "Ritmo" means something else ;) BTW "Ritmo" in Italian is just "Rhythm" ;) more or less this car http://www.ritmo-world.com/ http://www.retromobil.ro/galerie_foto/veh_rcr/poze_membri/4/popescu.ritmo.jpg of this color: http://www.mercadolibre.com.ec/jm/img?s=MEC&f=2076974_9738.jpg&v=O :D
  25. I hope it doesn't unless they have also some trick to avoid contact with the car roof ;)
