I think DCS Apache would be wildly successful.

Analysis Results: KA-50 and WH HOTAS

I'm a former aircraft engineer for the U.S. military, and currently a Data Intelligence Architect. I didn't like the default mapping of the Warthog HOTAS for Blackshark, so I've completely analyzed and formulated what I believe to be a superior mapping. Enjoy:

Nice brief! I've found that one of the biggest learning curves is the conditional HOTAS functions. So, you can add my HOTAS Matrix to this post for complete disambiguation if you like. My business is clarification of data, so I think you'll find that this covers it very well. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1002731#post1002731

I don't think this would be that difficult to accomplish.. and I think the return would be huge. Consider all the people out there who are longing for the feeling they once had from flight Sims and have no idea DCS is available. If the BDA (or AAR) sequences are done properly they'll look VERY cool and will grab a lot of attention on social media. Secondarily, they'll be a good tool (ask the U.S. Military) for personal performance assessment and refinement. As a developer and Business Intelligence professional I believe the ROI and value added aspects to the end user will more than justify the investment of time and resources.

Voice Activated Commands
StrongHarm replied to StrongHarm's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
In VAC, click on the header above the popdown. There's a nice full featured extended keyboard to choose your key. I use half boost, half volume, and it works very well. Mic placement is very important where speech recognition is concerned. I use the Razor Blackshark headphones, which are awesome. They're a metal construction replica of real helo cans. They're the first headphones I've ever used where I actually had to turn the bass down .. and I have several sets of premium headphones. The mic is of nearly professional quality. I also have the sound simultaneously coming from a digital receiver on an optical link. The bass speaker is between my pedals and the wall to provide extra sound and 'rumble immersion'. -
Voice Activated Commands
StrongHarm replied to StrongHarm's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Yes, it's best to create commands that sound distinctly different. VAC takes the Microsoft Voice signature and tries to match it with a programmed command. If you have two short voice commands that sound similar and they're being confused with one another, simply lengthen the command by one word. I use VAC with my pipe in my teeth.. and still it never gets a command wrong and I never have to say it twice. The great thing about VAC is that the audience can be novice users, power users, or developers. As a developer I find the interface to be very forgiving. I can copy a command, type a one word difference, change a single key, and keep growing it from there from the interface. Alternatively I can use the XML interface from Notepad++. You'll notice I have hundreds of commands spanning each wingman.. they were created very quickly with the VAC programming interface. I can't imagine it being any easier or working any better. This guy really supports his product, too. On the rare occasion I've had a question, he's personally replied within hours. Support an individual developer and spend the measly $18 for what is an independent innovative product that works very well. -

Realized I left a couple of commands out, so I did another upload of the config and supporting docs. Chart and xls reflect changes. -
Voice Activated Commands
StrongHarm replied to StrongHarm's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
The menus have changed a lot in the last four years. I've updated the VAC .xml and spreadsheet to reflect the changes. I've also eliminated the need to "Wingman One" (pause) "Engage Target" (pause) "Data Link Target" (pause) "Multiple Targets". Now you can simply say "Wingman One Engage Data Link Multiple Targets". All voice command strings have been consolidated into flight or wingman specific strings with up to five commands taking place from a single sentence. -
I'd like to reintroduce this idea. Even now I see people posting in youtube comments that have no idea what DCS:A-10C is. With the increased press coverage the Warthog is now getting, and the exposure DCS could get from youtube vids of this awesome sim, I think it's something to consider.
-
You don't have to use markpoints. Using this method from one of my previous posts, you can get all 6 on targets very rapidly 100% of the time (though I don't load 6 for missions, I do sometimes for practice).
-
Is anyone still using this mission to practice gun runs? Any bugs for the latest versions?

I enjoyed watching this, thanks! Be aware everyone, that we do have our very own resident RL A-10C Crew Chief / ED Tester / vPilot... paulrkiii. He's made several videos, documents, and checklists that are truly outstanding. Follow his posts http://forums.eagle.ru/member.php?u=70884

Checking back.. any news?

I'm now using a WH HOTAS, so I forget the specifics, but I believe I used stick to trim more than the dials:

Thank you sgmI0. Here's some from in an earlier post about overcoming issues with Saitek drivers:

I don't care about the social stuff either really.. but I think people would use it, and I think some of the youtube and facebook creatures might say "weeeeellll now, what is this flight sim thingy.. you mean this clip isn't an actual bomb TV reel from CNN? .. click to buy?" (youtube person Six months later): "I've just finished my JTAC Enhancement Module. It now has full text to speech and voice queue interaction so you can speak openly with the JTAC! Download it and give it a try!" (Meanwhile at ED HQ): "Yeah.. profits are up 180%.. I think we can hire some more devs and start that F-22 module that StrongHarm so desperately wants!"

Any insight on how DCS uses SLI?

If you're an aviation enthusiast, Viper Pilot is a critical read. Don't let his ego detract from the story, he earned that ego, so creative/self-indulgence license must be granted. This kind of humility is a difficult thing to allow ourselves to have in an age where PC rhetoric pushes the illusion of common and relative equal measure of all men. No, this man is greater than I... and that says nothing about me, but reveals everything about him and his unique warrior breed.

ED really did a great job on the manual. It's in a vaguely military format with just enough civilian polish to make it consumable. It gave me perspective on the subsystems and set the stage for how complex and capable this aircraft is. That really added to the immersion for me. I wish they'd do a binder print. It would be on the shelf next to my old NATOPS.
