Trackclip Pro causing in game shaking a little bit
CommandT replied to CommandT's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Well at the centre point I have no issues. It's only when moving my head off centre to look somewhere and it starts jittering a bit. -
Before I say anything I just want to say I'm a huge fan of DCS World on the whole. So much so that now in my break from real world flying (thanks to Covid-19) I have decided to build a rig specifically for DCS and nothing else after following all the developments of this sim for many years even if not playing it all that time. Now finally I get to enjoy it and I've bought a whole bunch of modules. However, I have to say, there has been a few things I have been quite frankly disappointed about given it's 2020 outside and games like War Thunder are running fairly stunning realistic visual effects on computers with a 1/10th of the processing power required to run DCS. Given as it's the free for all month I downloaded the Normany map to find what looks like a coastline made in 2001. In fact I think IL2 1946 series had far superior water shore - beech graphics compared to what we have here. On top of the fact that the "deep" water abruptly ends and turns into an awful looking, totally mis-colour matched beech that has super sharp edges with other parts which are a totally different colour and super flat and razer sharp edges. I can understand that this might be the case on the Georgian map which was concieved in LOMAC times, but how did this ever pass quality control in today's world?? Basically the coastline is so awful and unrealistic looking that I can't justify buying this map or any WW2 birds to use with it. I really hope the new English Channel map is a huge improvment. I don't want to hate on the developers' work. I mean the hedges and and towns look great, I'm just bewildered by how such great effort can be ruined by a terribly unrealistic coastline that looks like it belongs in a sim from the year 2000. Although modules and all that are great, I seriously think ED needs to focus all of it's attention on a few key improvements for the overall sim which seriously lets it down such as these awful coastlines, pretty outdated clouds/ weather and Vulcan API optimization to have the sim run better for more people. Why is this not at the forefront of the to do list? Once again, I am not trying to be unreasonable. I love the fact that this sim exists and clearly has a strong community. Can we just have a few key basic improvments to make the experience more enjoyable? It doesn't have to be some complex weather engine with 20 layers of clouds and tornadoes, nor does it need to be a beech that looks like it came straight out of Saving Private Ryan, but some basic improvements to make it all blend in and look a little nicer would really go a long way!

Is the F-5 and F/A-18 Red Flag BFM Campain ny good?
CommandT replied to CommandT's topic in User Created Missions General
P.S. Jut to be clear I'm new to DCS and am not sure where the community goes for missions and campaigns apart from what ED sells officially? Basically just looking for realism and immersion. -

CommandT replied to CommandT's topic in User Created Missions General
I'm looking for an immersive realistic experience tbh. I mean I'd even be quite happy if you never got to shoot down the simulated targets haha. But yeah so long as the procedures and documentation associated gives a realistic vibe that would be what I am after. Air to Air sounds great to me. Is there any F-5 or F-18 missions/ campaigns you guys would recommend and where one could get them? -
Trackclip Pro causing in game shaking a little bit
CommandT replied to CommandT's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
That's not the issue. The stutter is not due to a zoom slider being stuck and jittering zooming in and out rapidly. It's more of a lateral shake side to side. You can see it in the trackIR software itself. When you position your head off centre the focal point is jittering back and forth very slightly. At any smoothness setting. -
Hey folks, I've just switched to using TrackClip Pro using my trackIR 5. Although it's a lot better in terms of range of motion I find there are some micro-shakes when you turn your head off centre and keep it still (the movement in game is not perfectly still but shakes a tiny bit back and forth. I've played aroud with the settings and I have this on 100% smoothness slider in the software also. It's not really a deal breaker. Just wondering if anyone else encountered this. Can't figure out how to get rid of the tiny shakiness.

Just to let you all know. I have no idea why but my trees looked as they should today all of a sudden. Hopefully it stays this way!

Can You Fly Formation Aerobatics Without Multiplayer?
CommandT replied to CommandT's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I think ED could really spend a bit of time on a proper "Airshow" or "Formation Aeros" mod. Perhaps where you have a place in pre-recorded formations and all the ins and outs of formation aerobatics such as timing and calls could be trained using tutorials and where the lead is talking to his wingmen... "puuuuuull, a little more puuuuuull" etc etc. Just thought ED... just a thought... How much do I want to bet it would be one of the best selling modules they have made... -
No, no. I mean it's wobbly as in it exhibits what seems like Dutch Roll in instances where it would feel rock solid in real life - especially rolling it hard. I use a Warthog stick with a 15cm extension and Thrustmaster Pendular pedals. No they will obviously not replicate reality but it's a decent set up and over the years I've been pretty good at understanding the limitations of PC hardware and where the flight model is just wrong. All I'm saying is - the flight model feels wrong. Also, just like with the Christian Eagle gyroscopic manoeuvres are total nonesense in the game. Though I can appreciate that these are difficult to model in any sim and I've never come across one that does them well. But it doesn't change the fact that snap rolls and tumbles and such are very different in real life. And like I say it "wobbles".

Can You Fly Formation Aerobatics Without Multiplayer?

I think we should! I'm amazed this sort of thing hasn't been implemented years ago given this sim's focus and target audience. :pilotfly::pilotfly::pilotfly::pilotfly: -
Definitely not. I've got some time doing aeros in a Yak-52 so I was quite hopeful when I downloaded the Yak in DCS and found out it's wobbly and not really anything like the real thing. I think the F/A-18 flight dynamics apart from extremely high alpha at low speed where you can practically make it hover, are superb. Can't speak from real life but from watching ample videos it looks really similar.

Hey folks, I've downloaded the following training targets mod and it just says to put the donloaded contents into the folder: C:\Users\<your username here>\Saved Games\DCS I did that but can't find these objects in the mission editor... I must be missing something  http://www.476vfightergroup.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=287 What do I need to do? :(
-
Am I able to download this and basically go back to an older version of the sim? Also, what about downloading 2.5.6? Any major downsides in doing so? Can I revert back to 2.5.5 easily?
-
So is it luck of the draw that some users get this and others don't?
-
Yes I'm aware. I'm just saying I wonder if the FCS behaves differently when it launches off the carrier. In the video it deflects horizontal stabs fully nose up just as the plane gets to the end of the deck on launch... I'd imagine it does not do this when taking off from an airfield.

I'm not sure if the FCS has some sort of carrier TO mode but you can see the horizontal stabilizers rotate almost fully nose-up right before the plane leaves the end of the deck when launching. I'd imagine the FCS will not automotically command full nose-up on a runway without you pulling back on the stick.
-
Sorry, my apologies aboit the 12 and 16/17/19 units. 12 is for shore takeoffs indeed. If the real plane rotates itself off a runway in real life then fair enough. I just thought my trim or something was wrong as no other plane generally tends to rotate without any stick intervention.

Could you confirm what you mean by "track replay"? Sorry I've not had DCS for too long so still learning the ropes. I assume it's the track file of a particular flight, not an actual recording for me to put up on youtube? How can I get a track file across? And looking at the other thread mentioned ealier about this from February - yes, that is EXACTLY the issue I have. The shading of the trees is all totally messed up and they make everything looks super ugly as opposed to the super nice textured 3D-looking trees you see in Wags's videos as well as plenty of other youtube videos. It's not an FOV issue. It's always an issue at any zoom, any angle, any time of day, any tree draw distance settings. So I take it this is some sort of computer-specific issue that a few people are clearly experiencing?
-
Ahh! My apologies! Still learning this damn sim haha. I see what yu mean. Once I'm done sorting out some grahics settings I'll make a track file and upload it. Can I attach it to the post somehow or have ot put it up in the cloud with a link to download?

Well as someone who flys aeroplanes for a living with 4000h of actual real aeroplane flight time with most of that on jets, I can assure you no aircraft that I have ever flown in real life has rotated itself. That's madness. I'd be amazed if the Hornet is supposed to rotate itself off a runway. On a carrier - ok, different story. But off a runway nobody should be expected to have to apply lots of nose-down stick and trim to keep it pitching into a vertical climb. Something is wrong. Maybe it's my specific system, I don't know. Also I'd like to point out that in Wags's offcial tutorial video from a couple of years ago on taking off in the F-18 he makes a remark that you have to pull back quite a lot on the stick to rotate the plane... I think we can all agree from the comments here this is not the case for anyone any more... And yes, I reset FCS, flaps half, set takeoff trim - it goes to 12 units. According to the manual I have to increase that further to 16/17 or 19 when taking off on an airfield depending on weight. But even at 12 units it's ridicullous. I set it to 6 and it seemed way better! P.S. Making a video would be pointless unless I could also film my physical control inputs.
-
It's not just Wags, I've seen other youtube videos with really nice looking trees. I am honestly absolutely lost as to how mine look so fake andunnapealing! I mean irrispective of zoom, they just look terrible. Like trees from LOMAC from years ago... do you guys have similar looking trees in your game? I've tried different locartions, different times of day and seasons and something just isn't right.
-
My question is why in Matt Wagners videos the trees look silky smooth and 3D and mine look like crap haha
