solved Why is my FPS Capped at 60? Also low FPS in missions :(
CommandT replied to CommandT's topic in Game Performance Bugs
To be honest I think your understanding my system is a little crude. It's not "just a laptop" - it has an external case for a 2080 Super GPU with it's own cooling fans and pPSU, it's got the same SSD as you'll get in a tower PC, and although RAM in my case is limited to 32GB @ 2400MHz, it's also more than acceptable generally and what a lot of people will have in a tower PC. As for cooling, again, this is not an issue - I have a cooler pad with 3 extra fans, extra thermal pads inside also and since the internal GPU is not being used all this extra cooling has an even greater effect. I would not underestimate the capabilities of a good laptop with an external GPU and cooling. I used to think the same as you. However the downside of my system is I am limited by bandwith by the processor architecture and I'm beginning to think it's a limitng factor for AI and missions within DCS. Had DCS used a Vulkan API and utilised more cores I think my system would have been more than adequate but in the current state the processor is just too limiting. -

Would there actually be any boost in performance overall though with a monitor with a higher refresh rate? I mean 60fps looks perfectly smooth when it's smooth. I'm not complaining about having it capped at 60. I'm complaining about having performance issues when it stutters or drops below 60. -

Ah I see. That makes sense. I do have VSync enabled. Unfortunately I need it to avoid screen tearing. Is my CPU the achillies heel? It seems not matter what missions I run it just turns into an awful choppy mess. Worth building a tower PC with a good CPU whilst retaining the 2080 Super/ SSD ect? Would going up to 64GB of RAM make much difference? (I am limited to 32GB with the current set up). Cheers! -
Hey folks, I'm messing around with my graphics settings but I see my FPS is always capped at 60. Is this normal? Is it due to my monitor being 60Hz max refresh rate? Also, I see that even if I have everthing running smoothly 99% of the time just flying around the maps on my own, when doing any mission or campaign I see stutters and fps drops even in places where the GPU wouldn't struggle to render the image. Is this normal? My specs: Dell XPS 15 laptop with i7 7700HQ eGPU - RTX 2080 Super 32GB RAM 2400MHz EVO 970 m.2 2TB 38" HP Z38C Monitor with a refresh rate of 60Hz. I'm a bit disspointed with the lack of smoothness I get in missions :( I did as much optimizing as I could and squeezed soem more performance after tweaking in game settings and nVidia settings and also undervolting the CPU. Still definitely struggling with something when it comes to missions.

Very low FPS in missions Vs normal flying :(
CommandT replied to CommandT's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
So I've figured something out - the FPS drops are partly due to having the SA page up in the Hornet on the lower display. Maybe something ED could look into? -
Awesome. Cheers! Downloaded

It's a 7700HQ in an XPS 15 with a cooling pad, extra thermal pads, with an eGPU RTX 2080 Super. 32GB RAM, 2TB EVO 970 SSD running a 4k screen. -
Hey folks, So I recently built a little rig to run DCS World and I basically have it set up in the graphics settings to the point of where I can fly around almost anywhere with smooth FPS including Vegas. Of course I do get some lower fps and a bit of stuttering when on the flight line at Nellis but that is understandable. What is not understandable is why I have some serious FPS drops and stutters when I run even really simple basic missions like 1 v 1 BVR fight at 20,000ft over the Persian Gulf. If it's 1 v 1 BFM there's no issues. 1 v1 BVR - I start to see very noticable fps drops. and 8 v 8 BVR is just terrible fps-wise. Or for example the Area Familiarization flight in the F/A-18 BFM Campain (mission 1) where you just fly with nothing happening around the NTTR with a wingman - low fps there too. Is this normal? Does even a basic mission turn a smooth game into a frustrating stuttery experience?
-
Hey folks, I've downloaded the Hornet BFR Campaign (the offcial ED one) and in mission 1 where you do a familiarization flight of the area I can't seem to get the waypoint route to work - it just keeps with the aeroplane symbol - i mean all waypoints stay fixed to the plane after takeoff, I assume because of dodgy alignment. I've tried to follow the brief about updating position via TACAN but i can't get it to work. Could someone just tell me step by step how to get it aligned for that mission. I can align it in NAV until I see "OK" on the screen but after that I've no idea why it just wont update my position? Cheers!

Thanks for the suggestion. I downloaded this but am unsure where to unzip the folder? Do I just fire up the .miz files separately via the mission editor or can i actually have it via the "campaigns" section on the main UI screen?
-
also, a follow up question - when you fire off a missle at your opponent and break off to avoid the merge, you then have zero situational awareness as he is behind you - how do you re-engage from that point?
-
Many thanks for the input to all! Anyone got any good links for BVR tactics and how to implement them in DCS? Just in general for any jet with a decent radar. I see there's a few on cranking. Also, is there any way of having any idea of how close a missle is from you when the RWR is telling you that you are fired on? I assume not but thought I'd ask in case there's some rules of thumb you can apply to figure out if you have to maneouver or you still have time to track and fire on your enemy before having to evade the missle flying at you.

Checked. Cleaned. Still no idea. Same issue :helpsmilie: -
Is the F-5 and F/A-18 Red Flag BFM Campain ny good?
CommandT replied to CommandT's topic in User Created Missions General
I see there's 2 different NTTR campaigns for F-5 and F-18... whcih of the 2 do you guys suggest? They look pretty similar from the descriptions? -
Ah, I had not realised! Also, that brings me onto another point - is there any tutorials for wingmen commands and when and how to use them? I've searched youtube but nobody has ever done anything on this.
-
Hey folks, What's the most interesting/ immersive/ realistic campaign for the Hornet currently on either NTTR or Persian Gulf Maps? Cheers!
-
Hey guys, I'm not new to the world of dogfighting, but I am pretty new to everything that goes on with BVR. I've been learning the Hornet - I've read through Chuck's guides on radar modes etc, watched loads of video tutorils on radar modes, datalink etc and I kind of get the idea. However when I go the Instant Action using the Hornet into 8 vs 8 BVR, to say it get's confusing is a real understatement. I just end up randomly locking trgets unless my friendlies shoot that locked target down and then i just try to lock up somebody else. Anyway I think it ends up being a massive mess really with me just firing off missiles at anyone I get a lock on within range and then just maneouvering and chaffing when I hear missle launch high frequency beep from the RWR. Is there any tutorials that show or explain multiple aircraft BVR engagements? If it's 1 v 1 - ok, I can get my head round that. 2 v 2 I'm sure I could figure out. But when it's 8 targets and 8 friendlies it's all just a randm crazy mess and I honestly have no idea who is shooting at who or what to do lol. -------- On a side note - in that mission I seem to suffer some serious fps drops and stutters. Is this because 16 planes in the sky locking radars on one another is taking up a lot of computer power? I can understand why I get fps drops at Nellis and a whole bunch of static aircraft but wasn't expecting to see such poor performance way above the ground without even seeing anyone. Cheers!

This did the trick, cheers!

Ok, so I've tried Normandy in 2.5.6 and I'm not gonna lie... it's definitely a welcome improvement in all aspects compared to 2.5.5. IMO the beeches are much better but overall still a bit crude in places. though I see enough improvments for me to definitely once again consider buying the map and some WW2 aircraft and the assets pack. So I applaud the developers for making these improvments. That being said, I would still like to say I think the shoreline and beech textures or lack of in some areas are definitely behind current times. Though this is literally my only complaint about the entire map as I think in terms of everything else on it and how it is optimized it is actually really impressive. Now if my concerns about the super outdated weather engine could be addressed I'll be a happy bunny. As to the argument of - flight sim/ combat sim - everyone has different values though I would hazard a guess that most people like myself would never buy anything in this game/ sim if we didn't find it pretty/ shiny and in some cases breathtaking - because even in terms of combat it gives you immersion! Who wants to do ground attack with the most accurate systems modelling in the world on a flat lifeless surface with poor textures? I can tell you straight away - I'm out! Similarly, if I want to fly low-level to avoid radar coverage I want to see the trees, the grass, the objects like I would in real life... why... because it gives a sense of speed and realism and looks cool! So visuals are technically also an aspect of "combat". But you know what, sometimes, and I'm sure I'm not the only one - I just wanna look outside and enjoy the scenery/ lighting and location! This is not a prcedural sim - it can be, but for most people it's that pretty/ shiny good looking picture that is important. So I think to say visuals don't matter so much coz it's a "combat" sim is just utter garbage.

Also, do the current modules that you have installed and mapped to your controls automotically transfer to 2.5.6? If not it will be a right PITA to program everything again!

Trackclip Pro causing in game shaking a little bit
CommandT replied to CommandT's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Very strange. I have not experienced any such issues with my regular basball ht clip that came with trackir5. I don't wear glasses and there is no issue with light sources behind me, day or night. The screen that shows the sensors in green doesn't show any other sources that could cause an issue either. Like I say, you can live with it but just seems wierd that it's not rock steady like you'd expect. I tried to mess aound with the settings in the app too and cn't seem to find a solution. Seems like al settings and all the other profiles I have it does it. -
I'm sorry if I come across like a total retard, but is the 2.5.6 version the same as "DCS World 2.5 Open Beta"? I'm downloading that now from the main DCS website. I didn't see "2.5.6" actually written anywhere so assume it must be that? Cheers anyway. I never realised you can run both at the same time. Very curious to see what 2.5.6 is like when it finishes downloading. Cheers!
-
True, I am on 2.5.5. I never really understood whether downloading the beta version is worth it?
