[REPORTED]Misaligned Eyes on HP-Reverb

I have found a workaround for this issue on my system. I can now use the Reverb in DCS without eyestrain. At least I'd say it is 90% of the way there. Update: Actually, it's 100% fixed for me.

tl;dr - open DCS through Revive

Long version:

The "normal" way of manually injecting Revive into a game by right clicking the "Revive Dashboard" icon in the Windows task bar menu, then clicking "inject" didn't work for me to start DCS.

When I started up Steam VR and clicked "Revive", DCS was not available in that library, so I had to move files manually as follows...

1) Go to your x64 Revive folder e.g. C:\Program Files\Revive\Revive\x64

2) Copy all 6 files from the x64 folder into your DCS\bin folder

e.g. C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\bin (not sure if you have to copy all 6, but that's what I did). These files include the ReviveInjector.exe file.

3) In the DCS\bin folder, drag the DCS.exe file on top of the ReviveInjector.exe file you just copied.

There is also no need to have "Windows mixed reality for Steam VR" or Steam VR open before you do step 3. They will start up automatically.

4) DCS will open in VR without the eye strain issue.

I saw immediately that most of the mis-alignment had gone from the menu page, and it remained almost completely aligned once I got into the sim.

If all that works for you, then make a shortcut on your desktop to save dragging the DCS.exe file onto the "ReviveInjector.exe file" every time you want to start DCS...

5)

i) Right click "ReviveInjector.exe" in your DCS\bin folder

ii) Click "Create Shortcut", and put the shortcut on your Desktop

iii) Right click the shortcut, and click "Properties"

iv) Copy everything in the "Tartget" box e.g. "C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\bin\ReviveInjector.exe"

v) Click at the end of the Target box, and type a space.

vi) Paste the text you just copied at the end of the original text, so you have it twice e.g. "C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\bin\ReviveInjector.exe" "C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\bin\ReviveInjector.exe"

vii) Change the 2nd "ReviveInjector.exe" to DCS.exe, so it looks like this... "C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\bin\ReviveInjector.exe" "C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\bin\DCS.exe"

viii) Click OK, and use the new shortcut to start DCS in VR.

Issues:

1) Doesn't work if you use DCS_updater.exe instead of DCS.exe, so you will have to manually check for updates.

2) Doesn't work if you create a bin folder in "Saved Games" for the ReviveInjector.exe, so updates may delete the Revive files you copied over. (Will have to wait and see when we get the next update). Update: So far the DCS update has not erased the Revive files in the "Bin" folder.

Be interesting to hear if this works for anyone else.

This must be a DCS Steam issue then.

Any solution for this yet?

Just got my old Hp reverb replaced today with the gen 2 version and it's a was not a pleasant experience hehe. Got dizzy after a couple of seconds using it. Thinking about just keeping my old headset. Tried the revive solution and it works but just feels like yet another step to get dcs running though

So you’re saying there’s no cross-eyes effect when you use your old headset?

No my old one works like charm, except some other small issues =) but never feelt crosseyed before. And i have the same settings as with my old ones, i just plugged the new headset in. Been switcing between them and it's like night and day, the old headset works perfect and the new one i strain my eyes within a couple of seconds and my vision is all blurry when i take em off.

That made a big difference! been messing around with it now for a while, it's getting there, when i remove the headset it takes a second or two before my vision can focus still. With the old headset my vision is sharp and clear when i take it off. But It's a lot better than before though and im sure i can tweak it a bit more :)

Same problem for me...

The G2 is my first VR Headset and after the first day getting DCS to run mostly smooth and stable 45 FPS now I'm trying to get the alignment right.

Played a little with the Debug Tool but did not achieve satisfying results. Had to stop then after getting eye pain.

In the SteamVR room I don't have this cross eyed feeling but in DCS something seems way off...

Hope to find a fix for this!

Hey Vanilla, since you are in a similar situation i want to ask, regarding smoothness and playability, what are your conclussiones regarding motion reprojection? Are you playing with it on or off? I'm not sure and seeing greatest improvements with it ON or OFF.

Wow I thought something was off. Why did I feel crosseyed in DCS only with my new Reverb G2??? So there's definately an issue with the G2 and DCS then?

EDIT: Tried the tool. Making it symmetric and then swapping up down made it better. But not 100%. Still have a weird feeling, but just not as bad.

How come DCS have a problem with "alignment" when other games do not? Why should I as a customer be having to fiddle with this? Please fix it ED!

Also, if anyone have managed to get a 100% feel good alignment for the G2, please post the settings file.

Ok, I have a Valve Index and I thought I was going crazy because I was getting eyestrain in DCS VR, but it appears that this could be the cause.

To confirm, I forced IPD to 0 in DCS in order to minimize any parallax error, then compared a horizontal datum rendered by DCS (like a menu or the edge of a cockpit instrument) against the steamVR overlay menu, and it seems like the right eye viewport DCS is rendering is slightly higher than the left. Not enough to be obviously wrong at a glance, but enough to give me painful eye strain. Hopefully I can trim it out with the debug tool, but this definitely seems like it's a problem and not limited to WMR headsets.

Edit: I just tried the debug tool linked previously:

You can 100% reproduce this on my headset if you set the IPD in DCS settings to 0 (which I think everyone will agree should make both viewports identical) and then use the debug menu "swap eyes" option. If you close one eye then toggle swap eyes, the image you see will jump up or down each time you toggle. Unless I'm completely off-base, it should not change at all.

Edit 2: Using "Make symmetric" seems to have resolved this for me, there is a noticeable difference in comfort level.
