Boris Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Before yesterday's 1.2.4.12913.167 update I could get to high altitudes and climb over mountain ranges with no problems. Since the latest update I really struggle to get the Ka-50 much higher than 3000m. The ceiling of the Ka-50 should be 3600m in the hover at the least. I've been attempting mission 8 of the deployment campaign and can no longer get over the mountain range. My wingmen also struggle with most of them crashing. Anyone else experiencing this? Erforce Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 I don't think they touched the Ka50 AFM for a while. Just tested this, i still can hover fully loaded at 3600m, and climb up to 5300m in a 180kph foward flight. 8500m is reachable depending the weather and your loadout. Remember in "on the other side", you must maintain a 160 kph foward flight and climb asap. Boris Posted May 28, 2013 Author Posted May 28, 2013 It's really strange. I could swear it was no where near as hard before. I made it over every single time. I also have to make a correction, in order to scrape over the mountain you have to be over 3600m. Still round about this altitude my climb rate drops to pretty much zero. I've just made it once, really, really struggling to get over. The time before I got over and then stalled. The other times I have stalled before the summit and lost batter power. The EKRAN is telling me to turn on rotor anti-ice, even though I've already done so. Could it be something to do with the cold? Bee_Sting Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 To be honest black shark isn't a fighter jet,so flying that high up you are asking to get shot down. Maybe they fixed it to real life setting in this lastest patch.
porky_pig Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Could it be something to do with the cold? Cold weather aids in facilitating lift. Its cold, denser air, not to mention it helps the engine attain higher compression ratios.

Been like this for over a year buddy you can do it but need to be very careful. :joystick: YouTube :pilotfly: TimeKilla on Flight Sims over at YouTube.
KaspeR32 Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Cold weather aids in facilitating lift. Its cold, denser air, not to mention it helps the engine attain higher compression ratios. This is true, up until your engine freezes (which is what's happening I think) and then you lose all power. It's part of the mission, going over this mountain ridge. There are 4 switches to flip with the anti-ice system: Make sure you got them all on. Viper probably is on to your problem. I had trouble finding ALL the anti-icing switches. Remember that the "DUST PROT" and "ENG ANTI-ICE" is on the same switch, if you click it twice, it will go into the correct position. Boris Posted May 28, 2013 Author Posted May 28, 2013 Thanks for the good advice guys! I was indeed neglecting to turn on the engine anti-ice. I didn't realise it was a three-setting switch. God knows how I did it before without paying attention to this though. With all the anti-ice switches on I was able to climb much higher and more easily, got over the mountain range and into the valley, took out the hinds (with the help of some botchy damage tweaks of mine) and completed the mission! JesseJames38 Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Nice. but you left the other two Pitot heat switches off to the left. Two other important switches that tend to get neglected a lot in life. Jesse
JHzlwd Posted May 29, 2013 Posted May 29, 2013 I experimented with one of my own high altitude missions and could not duplicate your problem although I see you have received some good suggestions in regard to icing. This is tricky with the multi-function switch. For the most demanding climbs, when doing my own missions, I specify a two-stage ingress: (1) Begin with a bare minimum of fuel and no weapons. This allows me easily to clear the highest mountain ranges. (2) Place a FARP with ammo storage and tent somewhat downslope on the other side - far enough you can take off with the added weight: that's where I land (landing practice is always useful anyway) to take on the fuel and weapons needed to complete the mission. Cheers! Also, very hot temperatures set in the sim will make it extremely difficult for your helicopter to climb or hover. You've heard the term "hot and heavy?" So for example if you play a mission in it with July, August temperatures and you are going to be climbing mountains, you need to lighten load. Either fuel or armament or both.
