As you probably know, DCS World 2.0 should provide new cloud, now you can already see them in the cloudy OpenBeta home screen.

 

By making a small change in the lua, it is possible to activate it the game, and that's what it looks.

Cloud is heavy fps intensive actualy even with a good rig (from 120 fps to 25 when i'm looking at the sky...)

 

I believe this is a bit misleading, because it is probably a bug affecting only certain PC's. It's not indicative of what the experience is going to be once the new clouds are enabled by default. I have also used the new cloud system but I get no performance hit whatsoever by doing so. I have read in other threads that there are some who has the same performance problem that you are experiencing but not everyone has it. That's why I think it's caused by a bug, and it is also probably the reason why the new clouds are not yet activated by default. It is likely that ED knows about the problem and they want to fix it before enabling the new clouds.

Ho I have no doubt that it will be fixed, but currently I can not play with these clouds :) and it's why the video is called "work in progress"

i am very happy with ED working on the new clouds, a wish of mine is that they'd look whiter(to borrow a little less color from the atmosphere's color, from the light's color). The second thing i'd like to see is some more defined shapes, because now they look too milky and fluffy and to have more complex compositions, like in the next photos:

One more thing, and most important, i'd like to have no grey in their color palette, i'd like the grey would dissapear. In the shady areas i'd like to see colored greys at most, but more color than greys.

 

I hope this opinion of mine would help the team in getting more realistic clouds.

If you are curious by all means take a look, but do not report any issues regarding the new clouds until ED have enabled them.

Please bare in mind the clouds are disabled for a very good reason at the moment. If you are curious by all means take a look, but do not report any issues regarding the new clouds until ED have enabled them.

 

Yeap, because everything is subject to change, this video is only to get an idea of what it can give in the future :)

edit clouds.lua (DCS World OpenBeta\Config\Effects) , on the top change "enabled = false," to "enabled = true,"

Nice video showcasing the new clouds. They are looking very nice.

They are looking very nice.

 

not yet, low on contast imho (iv got 50-60+ FPS with those new clouds)

and civil vehicles on the roads sometimes visible through clouds as dark spots (i know: still wip)

but

there is a new (buggy) animated/waving grass effect too

Again, they look nice for a WIP but agree they need more contrast.

I hope in the end we dont sacrifice performance for gratuitous eye candy.

The fluidity and feel with high FPS in the game is most important and would not be the same if we were chugging along at 30FPS.

As some of us put more accent on the visuals, i'd preferee to have both high/low quality clouds to fulfill everybody's wish and to not create dissapointment. Because, and that's my opinion, what is the point of having such good new lighting effects without having some clouds as good as this new engine?
