Hi,

Just starting DCS A-10 and would like to setup my TM Cougar MFD's with their own LCD Screens. I have a 22" Samsung primary display running on a ATI 6950 and am looking for 2 7" or 8" LCDs for the Cougar MFDs. Does anyone have good recommendations for a good 7" or 8" (Which is better?) LCD display to fit the Cougar MFD panels?

thanks,

Kevin

8" fits better. Mine is a Lilliput touchscreen but you can save $$ by getting a non-touchscreen 8". It connects via VGA.

Any hints on how to set up multiple monitor?

I dont have any USB screens, but I have a 21" portrait DELL monitor to the left of my main 24" monitor, and Id like to push MFCDs to is if possible?

In the near future of course Id like to get a couple of screens for my cougar MFCDs but that can wait a few months if I can get this working.

Back to the original question; the only one's I can find in the Uk are 7".

Any suggestions of where to buy 8"?

edit: I should add that Im looking for non touchscreen monitors

I seem to be in the same boat. I'm finding way more 7" screens than 8" in the US. I would love it if someone could point me in the direction of a decent 8" non touchsreen LCD.

thanks,

I think the problem here is that 7 inch is widescreen (and hence more popular) while 8 inch is 4:£ (and so more suited to the square of an MFCD.

Cant find a non-touchscreen 8 inch for love nor money in the UK though, which means £260 on a pair of 8inch touch screens rather than 160 on apair of 7 inch non-touch. Which at the moment is just unreasonable given the fact I could get a 24" LCD for that sort of money

So it's cheaper to buy one large widescreen and put bezels on the edges, than two small screens?

Don't get 7" wide screen, I'm pretty sure you run out of vertical space for the TM MFCD's.

Try Lilliput http://www.lilliputweb.net/index.php?Controller=User_Product&action=ShowProduct&product_id=48

Here on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/Lilliput-8-4-3-XGA-TFT-LCD-Car-PC-Monitor-FA801-NP-C-/250711294961?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a5f8ec3f1

Touchscreens are a bit more for the same model.

I had a really cool setup where I wedged a 20" widescreen under my 24" widscreen and velcro'd the MFD's to the 20". I've since replaced my 24" with a 30" and had to abandon the previous configuration.

I now just use a single Cougar MFD velcro'd to my 8" Lilliput and this is fine for me. I didn't even bother with the second Cougar MFD. This works great since I can swap MFD's with just a joystick button. Also, it reduces the CPU hit since my 8" is only running 1024x768.

Really though, unless you fly with Alt-F1, using an 8"screen is almost like cheating compared to using the cockpit MFD's. I can see things from a range of almost twice as far on the 8" screen as I can on the main view MFD (with reasonable zoom).

Save some $$ and just go with one 8" and if you feel you need another later, add it. The moving map displays fine no matter where you display it, so you migh want to use the second Cougar MFD just to keep from having to use the mouse but I just swap screens anyway, so I just saved a USB port :-)

A big screen have another advantage, It only use 1 VGA plug.

Its a thing to think if you pretend to go 3 monitors some day.

Beside what you can put 2 TM MFD and some more stuff exporting instruments or whatever.

I pretty much kicket the idea of 2 separate screens for MFD in the trash, doesn t seem to worth the money and much less the configuring pita and extra work.

I've been looking into three different 8" 4:3 monitors. Two from Lilliput and one from Deltaco. They all have different native resolution. 640x480, 800x600 and 1024x768. The prices rise of course in that order too, needless to say. So what will be sufficient? Will 640x480 do? Or would you reccomend higher resolution.

Another question, are there any benefits from choosing usb vs vga? And I don't think of connectionpoints on the computer because that isn't a problem anyway. But will a USB monitor still use my primary graphiccard to process the image or will there be some sort of crapy onboard graphicadapter which will cause terrible fps when you use eg. the TGP og MAV?

from what I've tried 640x480 is enough, I do run mine on 800x600 because that's their native resolution and actual number of physical pixels.

If you have a choice and can afford VGA do get them, the USB need displaylink drivers.

I drive main screen (LG 24) and one 8'' using main GPU (GTX 260) and I use a cheap (the cheapest!) GPU for the second.

I have done something wrong and couldn't use secondary for the MFDs.

Project is on hold because I had to upgrade and my new mobo has only one PCI-E slot.

Monitors are plug and play but they cost me a lot because were imported from China and I learn the hard way about extra tax. The price was $160 for 2 pieces and finally I payed 276€ ( ~$400) :(

Would a VGA splitter hooked to a DVI-VGA adapter on my ATI 4870 be good enough? My ATI also drive my 21" CRT, which is my main display.
