Slayer Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 Looks like release is in 5 days or so. Anyone going to drop $100.00 and get this? Still have yet to see any videos of actual A2A or A2G combat for this which worries me. Haven't seen any kind of preview on SimHQ either.... On the up side it looks like they will be using IRIS and RAZBAM aircraft ( maybe why the slow progress on the DCS side? so if it sucks you can still fly the planes in FSX. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] System Specs Intel I7-3930K, Asrock EXTREME9, EVGA TITAN, Mushkin Chronos SSD, 16GB G.SKILL Ripjaws Z series 2133, TM Warthog and MFD's, Saitek Proflight Combat pedals, TrackIR 5 + TrackClip PRO, Windows 7 x64, 3-Asus VS2248H-P monitors, Thermaltake Level 10 GT, Obutto cockpit
104th_Crunch Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 Never heard of it until you mentioned it http://combatpilotseries.com/ Is this what you are talking about? If so, I would also want an in depth review before buying. For all its shortcomings, and not including details to a DCS level, FC A2A combat has yet to be out done.
Slayer Posted December 12, 2012 Author Posted December 12, 2012 Yep thats what I was talking about. Appears to be more about pilot training than actual combat. I doubt it could match DCS even remotely since it's based on FSX but it may be interesting for the Tomcat and carrier training ( which I suck at TBH ) Maybe the steep price and niche will keep the noobs out but too early to say how good it is. I did see pics of people dropping bombs but I'm more interested in the A2A. SUBS17 Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 Just using vLSO can fix your carrier landings. [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]
aaron886 Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 SUBS do you get paid by FSX people, or something? :D
Slayer Posted December 13, 2012 Author Posted December 13, 2012 He plays both sides of the fence. He reps DCS on other forums :P [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] System Specs Intel I7-3930K, Asrock EXTREME9, EVGA TITAN, Mushkin Chronos SSD, 16GB G.SKILL Ripjaws Z series 2133, TM Warthog and MFD's, Saitek Proflight Combat pedals, TrackIR 5 + TrackClip PRO, Windows 7 x64, 3-Asus VS2248H-P monitors, Thermaltake Level 10 GT, Obutto cockpit

Slayer Posted December 19, 2012 Author Posted December 19, 2012 Checking it out. Had a chance to do some of the training last night. You can practice offline as much as you want then do your certifications online. The missions seem well done. I don't think you can blow through it too fast. The missions have airport charts and checklists that you can bring up in game. You don't need crappy gamespy to use the multiplayer component either they have their own client. The trainer aircraft I'm using is somewhere between FC3 and DCS level. Most stuff is clickable and has a working colimated HUD. They resemble some of the payware addons by their respective companies but have been altered to work with this (IE weapons) It's about a 16 GB download on top of FSX (that you already need to have installed). Haven't seen any issued or conflicts with addons either but I only have FSUIPC ,REX and some terrain installed. It looks like there's a lot to this but I'm reserving thumbs up or down until I can get past the newbie stuff into the meat of it. Of course this come the same day as TACPAK lol.... SUBS17 Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 16GB I wonder what that consists of? [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]
Slayer Posted December 20, 2012 Author Posted December 20, 2012 Airports, aircraft, scenery etc. All the bases that you operate out of are redone from default FSX. The aircraft seem to be detailed pretty good. Huge chunk there. Steel Jaw Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 Hmm, based on FSuX so that means really crappy FPS and an unstable sim. "You see, IronHand is my thing" My specs: W10 Pro, I5/11600K o/c to 4800 @1.32v, 64 GB 3200 XML RAM, Red Dragon 7800XT/16GB.
531-Ghost Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 Actually, you'll need FSX + the Acceleration Pack. You're better off with a clean install of FSX + Acceleration Pack + Combat Pilot. :joystick:
531-Ghost Posted December 20, 2012 Posted December 20, 2012 Guys can you show some pics or videos? :) thanks. Here ya go... :joystick:
sneakypete Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 (edited) Hmm, based on FSuX so that means really crappy FPS and an unstable sim. Mmmm, I'm amazed at how much bad press FSX gets from many on this forum. Getting FSX to run with decent FPS and stability is not that hard as long as your system (CPU mainly) has some grunt. With a couple of decent add-ons like FTX England and REX Essentials it is a beautiful looking and smooth sim. Prepar3d is even better. In fact I'd go as far as to say going from stand alone DCS A10 to DCS World has halved my frame-rates, FSX has better FPS for me at the moment. Admittedly FSX/Prepar3ed are not combat sims (yet!) but with a bit of work both can be excellent at what they are designed for. Edited December 22, 2012 by sneakypete

There are a lot of people that like FSX, I've never tried it.....so I can't say anything about it. i7-4820k @ 3.7, Windows 7 64-bit, 16GB 1866mhz EVGA GTX 970 2GB, 256GB SSD, 500GB WD, TM Warthog, TM Cougar MFD's, Saitek Combat Pedals, TrackIR 5, G15 keyboard, 55" 4K LED
aaron886 Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 FSX as a combat sim is a joke. You can't fix broke. That's just what it is. They'd have to make an entirely new simulator. FSX is rife with problems. People are right to be frustrated that the only viable flight simulator for civilian aircraft over multiplayer in a worldwide environment is now over 6 years old, and a bloated mess.
SUBS17 Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 Tacpac does combat very good, but I am looking forward to Prepare3d V2 which sounds good maybe Tacpac and other combat mods would work better with Prepare3d since it has multicore support and dx11 from what I've heard. I'm still quite amazed with what TP can do when 5 years ago it was laughable to think such things would be possible for FSX. [sIGPIC] [/sIGPIC]
sneakypete Posted December 22, 2012 Posted December 22, 2012 ^^^ Agreed, Prepar3d is the way forward for many simmers but whether it will ever cut it as a combat environment is open to question. Tacpack looks interesting but it's early days and from what I've seen will still take some time to reach its full potential.
Krunkskimo Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 I dont see the value they are charging for this. 1
Chain Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 I was first thinking the same but there actually is a lot of content in Combat Pilot. I hate FSX but I do really enjoy CP. It's quite nice to see other people taking off/flying with strict rules without anyone fooling round. The comms are also done nicely. It feels very realistic so far. I just completed my third check ride and now I need to build up flight hours online to move to the next part of my training. Chain :joystick: I dont see the value they are charging for this. aaron886 Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 Well, if what they offer checks off your "realistic" box then have fun! I don't have to fork over my money to see that it's not my kind of realistic. It IS sad that "Combat Pilot" gives you an environment without "fooling around" but you haven't found that around here. Chalk it up to server issues that are holding virtual squadrons back from dcs world I suppose. :( 1
Maverick-X Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 Combat Pilot Did you guys see Combat Pilot for FSX? Here is a Link to the HP http://combatpilotseries.com/ Multiplayer network with monthly costs about $12, $100 per Aircraft, only training Aircraft available in basic version wich is $50... I would love to have a demo to see if the costs are related to quality, but after the videos I've seen about it, I just wanted to thank ED for making the realy great DCS series. Thank you Guys!!! Greetings, Mav
