This has been happening for a while. I use TrackIR, when I fly at night and after I look up from inside the cockpit. All lighting other than HMCS, completely blacks out for random amount of time. I've included tracks from both the Viper and Hornet demonstrating it. Since it gets worse the longer I'm in game. It doesn't happen every time I look up in these tracks because I just spawned in. But, you'll notice the HMCS dims when it happens but is still perfectly visible. But, the cockpit lighting goes black. The longer I'm in game it gets to the point where the blackout lasts so long, that I crash. I also included a screen recording just in case it doesn't happen on your system. Which I don't think it's my PC, seeing as it was happening on my old PC also. black out.mp4 f16 blackout.trk f18 blackout.trk

With DCS lighting tech getting more sophisticated each year, this longstanding issue is getting ridiculous. I made my first post about it 10 years ago. Since then there have been dozens of posts, a lot of them in the bug section, because people rightfully felt that the current implementation is just "broken"... Since it's still not fixed i'll treat it as a "missing feature" and -again- do a wishlist post instead... Proper visibility for nav lights and beacons is way more important than sophisticatedly computed penumbrae while basic sprite lights don't even come with a performance hit: Flight sims in the 2000s could already render nav lights and beacons to realistic distances. It's just sprites! Tactical night flying is borderline impossible without modern jets' HMCS and buddy tracks. Aircaft beacon lights and landing lights should be visible at 25 - 50km Nav lights (green/red) should be visible (and distinguishable) several kilometers at least. Brightness settings should be respected, so that dimmed lights are less visible (obviously). Tanker aircraft should be lit realistically during AAR Weather and atmospheric properties would ideally be taken into account, however since opting to use external lights generally comes with the explicit intention to actually be seen, this is not even that important and could be crudely approximated There should be AI logic and ME options to control lights on AI units. Light status should be taken into account for AI spotting capabilities All this does not require new lighting tech or complex retooling. The engine can already render sprites at sufficient distances and do so without a hit on performance. With the upcoming PTO and CW Germany those improvements are needed even more. How would you even do a rejoin at night without all the modern gizmos if your external lights cannot be seen after a few hundred feet? If you like the proposed improvements, please rate this thread 5 stars: Thanks!

Hei, I was playing with mission editor and Viggen. Then came an idea, since the radar can be used for ground avoidance, how can I make a mission, where the player could not use his/her night vision goggles? Cheers

Lead and second (myself) working targets at night over Cyprus. Clean up operations after a successful campaign. Teamwork and coordination. View full screen, to remove any white space or bright borders, can see detail better. When milsim, and teamwork create a great session.

is this a bug or correct as it is ?

'The Night Witches' is a friendly server for female (cis & trans) DCS Players to meet, fly, practice & learn together in a supportive and friendly environment. This is a women-only server, but from time to time guest male pilots may be invited to share their skills and expertise as associate members. Please consider joining our Discord Server. We're a new group (as of Dec 2022) but as the first all women's DCS Squadron we hope to build and grow. https://discord.gg/WtAjsnQGKK Look forward to meeting you!

So I can't reliably fly at night, not because idk how to navigate with instruments but because my entire screen randomly goes black to the point that i can't see the instruments. I actually don't mind flying at night and can do case 3 recoveries in the Hornet and Tomcat, but when I'm on final to the carrier and looking between instruments and the HUD and all of a sudden I randomly can't see literally anything in the cockpit, that's a bad time. This has also gotten me killed while trying to lock someone on the Radar at night and my screen goes black to the point I can't see the radar anymore. I haven't been able to pinpoint what specifically causes it. but it appears to be an issue with my game trying to balance contrast between the cockpit and the pitch black exterior of the jet This has happened in the Hornet, Tomcat, and the Apache. Both in multiplayer and campaign missions(both default and DLC campaigns), and has happened on the Georgia map and the Persian Gulf map. I will say that it happens the most in the Hornet on Hoggit's GAW, but that is mostly because that is my primary jet and multiplayer server. I attached a Track file from the last time it happened. I hope the track file isn't too large. it took a few minutes of flight for it to occur, but it happens pretty reliably, although seemingly random to me as far as the cause goes, every time I fly at night. If anyone has any tips or has experienced this please chime in. I really love DCS and don't want to be restricted to daytime servers because I can't see at night. Note, I have the Steam version running the Open Beta MT preview. it should be noted that this has occurred on stable version as well as non multi-threading in both 2k and 1080p resolutions. PC: Ryzen 7 5800X Asus TUF RTX3080 32GB RAM 3600mhz DCS installed on 1TB Samsung 980 Pro Windows 10 All drivers up to date. I run triple 32" 2k monitors in my "sim racing rig" which now doubles as my flight sim rig as well. Georgia At War v3.0.24_evening-20230812-130136.trk

Since my update to DCS 2.9.0.46801 the Supercarrier deck crew has no light wands during night operations anymore! See attached screen shot. The light "shadow" ie. green and red or yellow light sheen on the deck crew body is visible, but the actual light wand is missing. This makes it extremely difficult to see the deck crew hand signals at night. Any ideas??
