cfarsr Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 I was refreshing on the Huey startup when my computer just shut down and rebooted. I have an idea what it was but am soliciting input. Thanks, Chris
galagamo Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 So this was the first time it happened I assume? Could be a lot of things, most likely hardware related though. The last time my PC randomly shut down when I was taxing it periodically for about 2 weeks, then my power supply unit went out, just something to consider. Also could be caused by overheating, usually get a BSOD with that [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] OS:WIN7 HP X64|MOBO:ASRock Z68|CPU:I52500k@4Ghz|RAM:12Gb 3x4Gb GSkill Ripjaws 9-9-9-24 @1600Mhz|GPU:ASUS GTX580|HDD:2x128Gb Crucial sataIII SSD raid0|PSU:Antek 1000watt|Case:Antek 1200|Peripherals: TMWH|Saitek ProFlight rudder pedals|TrackIr4
cfarsr Posted February 8, 2014 Author Posted February 8, 2014 I've got a GTX780 but with an "850" watt PSU, I figured I was good enough. Your suspicion is the same as mine. It's happened once, maybe twice. Hopefully its a non issue........

Sel94 Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 Maybe it was something more simple, like a Windows update? It will auto-reboot your system if you forget to extend the time on it.

cfarsr Posted February 8, 2014 Author Posted February 8, 2014 2 week old computer. I'm thinking PSU Many thanks
cichlidfan Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 2 week old computer. I'm thinking PSU Many thanks What brand PSU? A decent 850w PSU should have no trouble with a 780 at all. cfarsr Posted February 8, 2014 Author Posted February 8, 2014 Never saw a brand name, it was included in the rig I ordered. I had name brand options but didnt go that route.

That is probably not a good thing, I'm sorry to say. A PSU's ability to operate at sustained loads above a certain level is usually the first casualty of low quality. cichlidfan Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 I am a Corsair fan but there or other good brands as well. My personal opinion is to never try to save money on the PSU. Cut corners anywhere else but there. danilop Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 It could be PSU, but it could easily be something else. Bad memory (DCS uses a lot of it), for example ... Run MemTest86 (http://www.memtest86.com/download.htm) to exclude this as a potential for system instability. And it could be software environment. You need to check system logs for any clue, as already suggested.
cfarsr Posted February 12, 2014 Author Posted February 12, 2014 Well, this all culminated with me sending my computer back to the assembler after it crashed repeatedly on mission 2-3-0. I was flying this mission yesterday without any hiccups and for whatever reason today about a minute in the computer just crashed and rebooted. To make matters worse when it did reboot, my secondary hard drive disappeared from Windows. Oye
