As I'm new here, I don't know if this topic should be posted here or at the P-51D forum. Can a moderator delete the offending topic, because I have doubled up due to my ignorance.

I have a problem with the launching of the P-51D within DCS World. The following screenshots will illustrate:

https://app.box.com/s/2ehxd993f69vblpq3pe7

https://app.box.com/s/rl7bprmdhcsvvalw8cxq

https://app.box.com/s/hyik995df863rf1ntfyb

As you can see the launching gets a A-10 instead of the P-51D.

Also, with the other launching options I get the P-51D, but can't access the cockpit.

Launching the other aircraft works fine, no problems.

Can somebody help me get this right.

PS. I've done all the usual checks, etc. with DCS stickies and also Steam stickies.

Hi Siggels, that's likely a licensing issue, in that if the P51 module can't find a properly activated key then it'll show an external view of the next aircraft in a mission. Activation allows you in the cockpit, otherwise not (it's how Multiplayer works for people without all the modules).

Check you have activated the P51 module ok etc.

Hi Siggels, that's likely a licensing issue.]

Thanks mate, I think you maybe right. So far I've bound the game to my account and done a lot of other things per DCS and Steam Support, but no go.

I tried holding down shift while hitting Multiplay and it only wanted to activate my A10C, so I've lost an activation needlessly. Nine more to go on the A10C.

But the P-51D it will not allow me to activate and as stated before, the other day I just bound it to my account and still no joy.

If it's on Steam, then this is worth a look through this:

http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=113587

Common activation things to try on Steam would be:

- Restart the Steam client.

- Activate directly using the P51_protect.exe found here:

X:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\DCSWorld\Mods\aircrafts\P-51D\bin

..and use the DCS: P51D Mustang key shown from the 'CD Key' entry against DCS World in your Steam library (the FAQ link above shows an example).

Hope that helps.

In the briefing screenshot you should see the cockpit. Something seems amiss with your install. Can you load the P-51 in the editor or have you messed with any missions in the editor? Barring those possibilities you may need to re-install or do file verification.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Fearless, but it didn't help.

I've spent an in-ordinate amount of time trying to solve this problem, more time than a working man would have to spare.

I also used the ticketing system for both DCS and Steam, which has dried up.

I'm appealing to the DCS Support to solve this problem for me.

If you take a look at my website, you will see I'm an expert of sorts on IL-2. If I could come up with a solution, I would have found it by now.

So how about it, DCS Support, step up to the plate!

If you can't solved this problem, how about issuing me with a replacement cd-key. Just don't waste my time any further. There is a limit, even with me.

BTW, Joint Ops Virtual Combat Schools, with whom I'm associated with, are considering doing some training in the DCS P-51D.

Cheers and no hard feelings, Siggels.

I would run a repair. Your P-51 desktop icon is labeled 1.2.6, as is your Su-25T, while the rest are 1.2.7. That indicates something is likely amiss in your install.

Yes, RAM from 4Gb to 8Gb, and Graphics card bumped up to GTX650.

But before that, about twelve month ago, I migrated from a P4 running XP to this i7 running Win 7.

Copy the Code below to delete your Hardware ID for Starforce Proactive/License management for P-51D, it's no longer valid

Copy/paste to notepad, save as a .reg file, run it, and it should delete your hardware ID for P-51D only.

After that, Run the Protect EXE (p51_protect.exe) located in:

<root> /program files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/DCSWorld/mods/aircrafts/P-51D/bin/ Folder

Use the license key under you steam, DCS World, CD Keys.

Your P51D icon on the DCS desktop has 1.2.6 under it rather than 1.2.7.

Possibly need to update it via the module manager? Or repair/delete+reinstall to make sure it's 1.2.7 like it should be?

This conversation has at least one more thread since I pointed out that issue in a different thread.

Steam doesnt have a Module Manager,

f you tell steam to verify the files, just in case the license is active and the reason you're not getting into the P-51 is because it's the wrong version.

If worse comes to worse, Delete the /P-51D/ Folder and tell steam to verify files and it will re-download it.

If that dont work:

As I said, wipe the old hardware ID, activate it via external protect exe, then tell steam to verify the files, But Only After it's Activated.

Thanks Mate,

This did the trick for the DCS client (installed to the HDD), but Steam is still the same.

Just to recap: The DCS World I downloaded last night, as well as the P-51D and installed to the HDD works perfectly.

The Steam client hasn't changed at all, after following your advice.

But I'll do it again for good measure and get back to you.

Cheers, Siggels.

Did you register your P-51 Key with Steam? Was it purchased from steam or from ED?

Did you register your P-51 Key with Steam? Was it purchased from steam or from ED?

G'day Skatezilla,

Thanks for helping me out. And also all the other blokes I saw in this thread also.

I purchased the P-51D from steam and it was working until recently when I had trouble with TrackIR. I had been customising my keyboad profile and HOTAS profile and deleted the default TrackIR entries.

I tried to get it going but with no success, so I deleted the local files for the P-51D. I was hoping Steam would re-write them to the HDD, but I was still having troubles so I copied a P-51D folder to replace the folder I deleted previously. This was a backup folder I had copied late last year.

I don't know if I registered the game with Steam. Maybe I did, because when the game first started after installation I was prompted to paste the key to the field provided.

Cheers, Siggels.

You need to get steam to verify the files, make sure your P-51 license is listed under your CD keys for DCSW on Steam.

Finally, it works. What I wasn't doing was running Steam as Administrator. When I read instructions and it said run as Run as Administrator, I assumed that what was needed was to run Windows as Administrator, which it already is.

By Right-Clicking on the Steam icon and selecting 'Run as Administrator' did the trick.

I then followed the rest of the instructions and bingo I got a P-51D.

Some of us users haven't grown up with computers. When I was a kid, the only person I knew who had a computer was the Mad Professor in Felix The Cat.

I was thirty-four when I got my first computer, an XT. Although I'm now fairly conversant with computers, and other technology, I'll never have the nouse and in-born instinct to read the Y generation mind when an instruction isn't clear.

So give this some thought support staff.

Also I note that both my problems were eventually solved by forum members, both at Steam and at DCS. I think maybe these people are a little older and think like me, instead of the twenty somethings.

Anyways, all's well that ends well.

Thanks to all who contributed, including the support staff.

Cheers, Siggels.
