I have moved recently and now, instead of cable, I am proud owner of Satellite internet. I get 3 gigs per month bandwidth (yahoooo).

I have this wild hare idea of installing beta 1.2.8 on another computer in town.

Zip that up and bring it home on a zip drive.

Do you think it will work by just extracting over my 1.2.7 Beta install?

You never appreciate unlimited bandwidth until it is gone.

You may have ping issues, I have a brother that has Satellite internet this and his ping is in the 1000 range =-100. Good luck hopes works.

Okay, I'm resigned to flying 1.2.7 until I move again. I usually make a move every 10 to 12 years.

See Ya.

Would it just not have been easier to take your computer 'into town' and do the update?

...or just download the install files to that zip drive?

Nice concept, except there are no install files to download. It is installed from ED servers and your local disk.

If you get to use a computer with unlimited bandwith, just download 1.2.8, either beta or full release as you wish and install and update it on an external harddrive and copy that to your directory at home.

Running that installation at home will give you the current version, and your configurations will stay the same as they are not saved in the game directory.

I guess this is the most convinient way to obtain the current installation with such a limited bandwith.

PS: you could also copy your current installation to an external hdd and run the dcs_update.exe in ...dcsw\bin\ directory. this should allow you to get a faster update with less datatransfer (internet-wise)

Install on laptop (or copy to external drive and use a PC at work), goto town, mooch off their wifi somewhere, download 1.2.8 update and install modules,

come home, copy/paste folders to gaming PC.

I'm not sure, But you can prolly sign in and download modules from module manager without activating, then when you copy everything to your Gaming PC, you already have starforce licenses activated in the registry for that hardware.

Here's what I ended up doing.. did end up at a comp with cable, installed DCS World 1.2.8, zipped the install, got caught up in another project. Came back home, but forgot the USB stick........ so, I fed 20$ more into cable bill so I would have another 2 gigs for downloading update for my original DCS World 1.2.7

I'm now on 1.2.8 beta, but a few bucks shorter.

Next time I'll just carry the comp with me. A lot less time and cheaper that way. (and I don't have to remember to bring the USB stick back with me)

Thanks for input!
