H-var Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 (edited) Dear Developers, The missile, R-27ER, was shot into the Moon, and should have reached its target for sure, but, unfortunately, it simply disappeared at the altitude of ~328 083 ft (~99 999 m). My biggest complaint is, of course, the fact that the Moon has survived. Track attached. Now, the actual reports: > 1. Missile R-27ER flies into that dark, mysterious sky without bleeding almost any speed... > 2. ...and then suddenly disappears. > 3. The map scale is way off (picture attached) > 4. The map becomes dark. World does not become black if you far from earth. The day is still there! :) Thank you for looking into these reports. is this a legit/serious bug report? SkateZilla, yes, this is serious. The missile flies ultra fast into space and then disappear. In contrast, in the attached track, other types of the launched missiles bleed speed fast and eventually fall down. Also, personally to me, the map scale appears to be way off. Don't want to be smart 4ss but moon isn't orbiting earth on that altitude. And your screenshots looks to be during the day time, so another weak point in your agrument. Are you sure that sun didn't drop though? :megalol: siipperi, do not mean to offend you, but you make no sense. Are you saying that during day time Earth looks dark? The lit up part of Earth does not become dark if you fly away from the planet. You can see the photos from the satellites on internet. ok, is this New in 1.2.8 or does this occur in 1.2.7 as well...?? There is as much moon to see during the day then during the night so his argument ain't that weak. Pyroflash Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 (edited) ok, is this New in 1.2.8 or does this occur in 1.2.7 as well...?? No, It's a known engine limitation that has been in place since basically, well, basically FC2. The stuff disappearing at altitude thing that is. If you do it with a manned fighter, the game crashes. As far as everything getting darker, well, actually, it's an optical illusion. Since there is no atmosphere up that high to reflect/refract light, everything gets absurdly bright. As a result, your eyes pupils contract in order to exclude most of the light. As a result, everything you look at looks much, much darker than it is in absolute terms. This is one very important aspect of space travel that people don't really understand from pictures, which don't care about how bright things are in absolute terms. This is also the reason why space suit helmets have absurdly silvered helmet covers. So yeah, it actually would get really dark for you up there, but you wouldn't really notice it, because everything would be really bright out. It's kind of like walking from a dimly lit basement out onto a clear day on the Miami beach during the heat of summer. Except 10 times brighter. Pyroflash Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 Pyroflash, so, is there anything in this bug report that you think might need an attention from the ED developers? No, AFAIK, none of these are bugs except for the missile drag at high altitudes. It may be worth looking at how aerodynamics work with different layers of the atmosphere. I don't know that it is wrong right now though. There really isn't much drag that high up to interact with the missile. Though gravity should still accelerate the missile downward at a steady 1g. If you aim for the sky, you will never hit the ground.

GGTharos Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 Hi WoAyumi, I have not watched the track, and I probably don't even need this data, but what is the launch altitude and speed? Am I reading your screenshot correctly that the missile is flying up at 2000kph or so? By my very naive calculations, we seem to have an issue with gravity. Pyroflash, so, is there anything in this bug report that you think might need an attention from the ED developers?
