GGTharos Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 While that problem with AI (or with the forest models I guess) is well known and could really use some love, you're quite off-base in thinking that you have to be able to see them for them to be able to see you. They can sit in a forest, look through a tunnel for fire, and nail you without you ever spotting them. What do you have to spot them with? A shkval which is a low resolution sensor that won't see through the tank's camo for you, and that tank needn't be particularly exposed to do you harm. The few annoying 'targets in bushes' shouldn't be much to complain about given just how ground units are nothing but fish in a barrel when they aren't in any type of hiding in this game - unlike real life. Of course, AI can't complain ;) Ok you go tell that to the AI, and the issue stands for AA as well, even more so. karambiatos Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Why would you put AA in the woods... they need more open area to be effective... and the helicopter wouldnt be that close to most AA platforms anyways.... because you can, and it works very well, and tress dont obscure radar. While that problem with AI (or with the forest models I guess) is well known and could really use some love, you're quite off-base in thinking that you have to be able to see them for them to be able to see you. its also quite off base defending missiles being able to fly through entire forests, using some backwards logic, by implying real world problems. also i never said that them seeing me, and i not seeing them is the issue, since you can put them in towns and you run into similar issues, only the missiles, and rounds dont fly thought the entire town, and fly through buildings. A 1000 flights, a 1000 crashes, perfect record. =&arrFilter_pf[gameversion]=&arrFilter_pf[filelang]=&arrFilter_pf[aircraft]=&arrFilter_DATE_CREATE_1_DAYS_TO_BACK=&sort_by_order=TIMESTAMP_X_DESC"] Check out my random mods and things

foxybat Posted May 1, 2014 Author Posted May 1, 2014 putting tanks in the middle of a forest is dumb mission design, since you can easily end up having a missile come out the middle of a tree trunk, which is just ridiculous, unless you are fighting mirage tanks. and other comment with agressive comments why? because im not pro player here and iam in learning phase i asked if there is a tips for this , is it hard to answer ? and btw i didnt design the mission its just fast mission! thanks
foxybat Posted May 1, 2014 Author Posted May 1, 2014 This when you call for a Buff to come in and remove the forest from the map. :D you are so funny!
ED Team NineLine Posted May 1, 2014 ED Team Posted May 1, 2014 because you can, and it works very well, and tress dont obscure radar. So doing so is exploiting a known issue in DCS World, if a mission designer puts AA in a position like that, then its poor mission design right. But Tanks make sense, of course they can fire on you as well, but is less far fetched... If the mission is to destroy tanks, why would you put them out in the open if thats probably not what they would do in the real world, besides the fact that it would be easier to kill those tanks and make yourself feel good :) Forum Rules • My YouTube • My Discord - NineLine#0440• **How to Report a Bug**
McBlemmen Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Thats funny , i came upon this thread after rage quitting an A-10 mission after getting shot down by a manpad that shot trough a tree. Really infuriating

GGTharos Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Imagine if real pilots could ragequit like that when that happened :) Thats funny , i came upon this thread after rage quitting an A-10 mission after getting shot down by a manpad that shot trough a tree. Looney Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Everything nice and dandy with AI and such, but once you're up against a human player playing DCS Combined arms, I'd start by combing the forests with a fine tooth comb finding my opponent, maybe even shooting a few rockets in the forest to stir things up. Sceptre Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 @OP try the "green shkval" mod for the black shark it makes things somewhat easier to spot in low light conditions. Regarding your question about tanks in the forest however, in a real situation those tanks would be spotted by ground troops who would then call in air support (in this case the Ka-50) to kill them. But finding tanks in the forest is almost impossible without thermal imaging and because the trees don't have a collision model (which is understandable) it gives them a great hiding spot. You could try adjusting the contrast and brightness on your IT-23 display to see if the tanks are easier to see that way. Everything nice and dandy with AI and such, but once you're up against a human player playing DCS Combined arms, I'd start by combing the forests with a fine tooth comb finding my opponent, maybe even shooting a few rockets in the forest to stir things up. I would drop cluster bombs in the forest if there were human players shooting me from there.
