Hi, i am pretty new to this game but i know the basic radar stuff.

But i find the aim 120c missile to have awkwardly short range.

i can always find and spot an enemy on my radar and wait for him to get into my launch range.

but by the time my missile has impacted the missile explosion is just a couple of km away from me. i feel that the enemy fighter is very close to me until the missile actually impact it.

also i feel that the aim 120 in general has a very low range. i always have to be very close to my enemy for the launcher zone to get into the Green box for a bigger chance to hit the enemy. if i fire if its outside the green box i always miss my target if its an enemy player.

if i want to be ensured a hit i must be like 7 or so NM away from the target and i feel i would have a better chance to hit with my aim 9.

what am i doing wrong? any tips or trick that i can use to improve the range of the aim 120?

Being new, you might consider posting a track of the problems you are having, it could be an issue with the missiles, or it could be something that you are doing. Someone will be better equipped to help you if they can see what you are doing.

this is a typical scenario i am in.

i fly at 50k feet. i find an enemy thats on 20k feet below and is 20NM away. i fired 1 aim 120c at him and pointing my nose to him before i fire. the missile misses.

im still at 50k feet closing in to 15nm and firing my other missile still pointing my nose to him first. both missiles misses.

aim 120C

how? why?

i have a height advantage of 30k feet and is 15nm away from him. how can 2 of these missiles miss ? it happens alot for me

Part of it is the current missile flight model and guidance model.

I noticed that you didn't mention speed. That has a great effect on range as well. If you took the time to go up to 50,000 feet, try to reach at least M 1.5 before shooting.

Know that missile agility is reduced at such high altitude. You might be better off launching at 30,000-40,000 ft if you're starting to close in on the target.

The question can be answered in multiple parts.

1. The missiles' performance specs are a WIP.

2. Currently, missiles only use PN guidance. This is great for short range missiles such as the AIM-9M and R-73, but not for medium or long range missiles.

There are more issues present, such as warhead performance, type, and seeker issues, but these are the biggest ones to answer your question of why the ranges seem so short.

Oddly enough, the biggest single reason for missiles being borked ATM, is the transition from SFM missile dynamics to AFM. Because missiles now bleed energy in a more realistic fashion, other stuff needs to be updated before they are once again back to being super useful.

If you aim for the sky, you will never hit the ground.

What was the target? Did they go defensive? I just was in there messing around and I killed an Enemy AWACS from about 26nm, both of us at about 30k feet.

Is the bandit notching or diving after you launch. If so your missiles will bleed too much energy or lose lock.

Too many variables to give you a more useful answer. Post a track/tac view.

Missiles have been "adjusted" in this latest patch .

Basically, they are now pretty bad.

Check out the last few pages of this thread : http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=121551

I don't mean to be offensive but a few weeks ago you were asking for /very/ basic stuff and now you seem to come across as an expert.

Being frustrated is one thing and complaining is another. If you just carry on *insert a different word for complaining to your liking, for me it starts with b but it probably doesn't suit the forum* all day you won't get anywhere. If you're in a bad mood it's fine but as soon as you're done being so depressed you need to get out of this mentality, start working around the problem, because essentially that's the only thing you can do.

I have no idea what you are talking about , and i do think your post is offensive.

it's pretty clear in the thread that i linked that the missiles atm are pretty weak . So what ?

Missiles have been adjusted, (i'm not allowed to say "nerf" that's what the "" are for) , this is fact.

No "complaint" in there, just a fact , a fact that i no longer have any sort of feelings about neither negative nor positive.

I just answer OP's question, but your post to me , feels like you are baiting for a confrontation. If you are, i suggest you stop being such a drama queen and read my post for what it is.

So what is this that you just go around and post in every related thread that missiles are worthless? Maybe you should consider not rageposting in a thread where they asked for advice.
