BeachAV8R Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 So I was playing the Sukhumi Free Flight mission today and wandered out to the aircraft carrier just offshore. And got to thinking.. "Hmm..can I hover into the hangar deck?" :megalol: I kept shedding blades..maybe the rotor diameter is too wide.. Anyone else manage it? Or is there a collision box that would prevent it anyway? SkateZilla Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 does the collision box show up in EDMViewer with SHOWCOL command? BeachAV8R Posted May 16, 2014 Author Posted May 16, 2014 does the collision box show up in EDMViewer with SHOWCOL command? See - you're talking all that programmer mumbo jumbo. And stop asking me to SHOWmyCOLon.. You have to buy me a drink first.. BeachAV8R
Roadrunner Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 the collision model prevents it as far as i know. tried back in the pre-dcs-world days, and later again, think in 1.2.6, no joy. ShuRugal Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 One of the flight challenges in MSFS 98 was to take off from the deck of a carrier and fly through the hangar. I had hours of fun trying to do that with a keyboard.
159th_Falcon Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 Have tried it countless times, including online whit squad flights. We came to the conclusion that the rotor diameter is slightly larger then the gap from watching the F2 view. So unless something changed since a good few months ago, no its not possible. (with the KA-50, maybe Huey has smaller rotor diameter?) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] The keeper of all mathematical knowledge and the oracle of flight modeling.:)
tsumikae Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 So unless something changed since a good few months ago, no its not possible. (with the KA-50, maybe Huey has smaller rotor diameter?) They are larger, actually. Albeit not by a huge difference.
Erforce Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 As i am somehow crazy with this co-axial chopper, i tried it a while ago. came to conclusion that there was a hitbox, independant from blades diameter because DCS have a cinetic-like model, and even at full speed i did not entered this hangar, just bumped and sank. honestly, i would prefer a solid landstrip on carrier (without whole and drift), than having access to basements :p TASK / ROLES acronyms guide Black Shark A.I. datalink guide illustrated (v1.2.4 Available on Wiki) DCS World Codex 1.1 : full units list (Speed/Weapons/Armor thickness/Threat zone/Weapon damage...) BeachAV8R Posted May 16, 2014 Author Posted May 16, 2014 We shall have to demand a Hughes 500 then..! :D
Rogue Trooper Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Yes I agree, any 500 series but preferably a defender, would help answer this important question. HP G2 Reverb (Needs upgrading), Windows 10 VR settings: IPD is 64.5mm, High image quality, G2 reset to 60Hz refresh rate. set to OpenXR, but Open XR tool kit disabled. DCS: Pixel Density 1.0, Forced IPD at 55 (perceived world size), DLSS setting is quality at 1.0. VR Driver system: I9-9900KS 5Ghz CPU. XI Hero motherboard and RTX 3090 graphics card, 64 gigs Ram, No OC... Everything needs upgrading in this system!. Vaicom user and what a superb freebie it is! Virpil Mongoose T50M3 base & Mongoose CM2 Grip (not set for dead stick), Virpil TCS collective with counterbalance kit (woof woof). Virpil Apache Grip (OMG). MFG pedals with damper upgrade. Total controls Apache MPDs set to virtual Reality height. Simshaker Jet Pro vibration seat.. Uses data from DCS not sound... goodbye VRS.
ShuRugal Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 the hitbox is still going to stop you. Even if you fly in at speed, you are going to end in the water.
