Itkovian Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Hi there! I'm an avid DCS fan and I'd love to sink my teeth into a proper Air Superiority sim, but unfortunately I can't do multiplayer very much and am limited to Single Player. As such, I am wondering: does DCS F-15C come with a decent single player campaign (or, heavens forbid, campaigns)? Thank you. Itkovian
Itkovian Posted May 21, 2014 Author Posted May 21, 2014 I know it comes with a campaign (as per the product page), but is it actually good? For example, BS2 has some excellent campaigns, while A-10C's campaign is a bit lacklustre. I was wondering if there's a good comparison. Also, is there a nice manual for A-10C yet? Or is it simply the FC3 documentation (which is not available for download it seems)?
ED Team NineLine Posted May 21, 2014 ED Team Posted May 21, 2014 F-15C does come with a campaign. The A-10C has had a manual for some time. Its a PDF, so if you wanted a printed one you would have to do that yourself or find someone that could do it for you. Forum Rules • My YouTube • My Discord - NineLine#0440• **How to Report a Bug**
cichlidfan Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 If you search your install folder for 'pdf' files, you will find the manuals. The A-10C manual is nearly 700 pages and has existed for three and a half years. ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero, i7-6700K, Noctua NH-D14 Cooler, Crucial 32GB DDR4 2133, Samsung 950 Pro NVMe 256GB, Samsung EVO 250GB & 500GB SSD, 2TB Caviar Black, Zotac GTX 1080 AMP! Extreme 8GB, Corsair HX1000i, Phillips BDM4065UC 40" 4k monitor, VX2258 TouchScreen, TIR 5 w/ProClip, TM Warthog, VKB Gladiator Pro, Saitek X56, et. al., MFG Crosswind Pedals #1199, VolairSim Pit, Rift CV1

I've got the A-10 on the brain. :) How nice is the F-15C campaign, BTW?

I don't ahve DCS F-15C yet, but I'm seriously considering getting it... and if there's a manual that'd be a bonus: going on vacation soon and there's little I love more than curling up with a study sim's manual in my lap (even if it's on my tablet :p).
kontiuka Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 I played the F-15C campaign a long time ago (over a year). I enjoyed it. There were a couple of missions that were impossibly hard but I think they've been tweaked since to make them actually winnable.

And I assume the manual is in the download then? It's just strange its not downloadable from the main website (again, I mean the F-15C, not the A-10C :p).
ED Team NineLine Posted May 21, 2014 ED Team Posted May 21, 2014 I think the manual is still getting tweaked like the F-15C itself... so they might not do that until after its in a more finalized state. Forum Rules • My YouTube • My Discord - NineLine#0440• **How to Report a Bug**
cichlidfan Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Here is a link to the F-15C manual. blkspade Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 The F-15C specific manual for what ever reason is not included with the FC3 update. You do actually get it in the Stand-alone download, however. http://104thphoenix.com/

cichlidfan Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 (edited) The F-15C specific manual for what ever reason is not included with the FC3 update. You do actually get it in the Stand-alone download, however. That's where the link on the Steam store page comes in handy. I have always appreciated it when the manual is available without buying the product. Which was really my point in mentioning it, since there is different content between the two. The plane details in the FC3 manual is basically a copy and paste from the FC2 one, with some references replaced, some not. http://104thphoenix.com/

Technically you can download and install everything from the DCS site without purchasing it. Your purchase just grants you a key. http://104thphoenix.com/
Itkovian Posted May 22, 2014 Author Posted May 22, 2014 Well, downloaded F-15C, looking good. A bit sad that the campaign only has 11 missions, mind you. Maybe there are some user made ones?
REDEYE_CVW-66 Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Here is one. A converted version of the FC2 campaign. Just started it myself- but seems nice. https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/599659/ (It was the first hit I got when I googled it though;) I am suprised that not more people has thoughts on the campaings. I thought that campaings was the heart and soul of the offline community. Oh well, new to the f15 myself and I have lot to learn I can tell...:) Nice to have something to sink ones teeth into.
KewlerMouh Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 Operation Beartrap is definitely one of the better campaigns and has some true epic moments. The scenario is really well done, you get sucked in. Don't worry about the 10 Missions, some of them you play and try quite often :). Every Mission has AWACS available (if it doesn't get breakfast of Mig31s...) and a tanker support. I used the campaign to teach myself to work with AWACS/bullseye! Definitely my recommendation to play it!
