mjmorrow Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 (edited) Ok, I have my plans all figured out. I am going to take the Pony. I am going top lonewolf it with the Mustang. I will climb out to a very high altitude, dive upon lower flying FW-190s, hit in a one pass slashing surprise attack, then dive away, using what I hope will be a relative superior top dive speed to get well clear of the FW-190, I attacked. I will climb back out and repeat this process, over and over. I don not expect that I will consistently down the FW-190s, this way, but I believe that I can cause sufficient damage to significantly diminish the combat effectiveness, endurance, and survivability, of the machines that I attack, such that my teammates will will have much easier FW-190 targets to finish off. Pandacat Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 I would love to see an A-8 at some point, I think there is plenty of info out there to do it. Then why skipped A8 and went directly to d9?
fastfreddie Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 Then why skipped A8 and went directly to d9? Seems like they were going for some of the later models of 44/early45 but since everything is under ED's roof now other 3rd party planes should enter the fray. Another 3rd party already announced the bearcat, P40, and another spit so other models of Me/FW planes could be coming soon. It would be nice to see some Russian planes in here eventually to get both sides of the German fronts.

Echo38 Posted July 1, 2014 Posted July 1, 2014 Both! If they ever come out with DCS: P-38L, I'll be spending at least 95% of my air time in the '38. However, I'm almost as fond of the FW-190 as I am of the P-51.
BSS_Vidar Posted July 2, 2014 Posted July 2, 2014 Looking forward to shooting down all you luft-lovers out there. The Pony for me till the Bubble Top comes out! I'll be curious to see how it's modeled. In IL2, the roll rate was obnoxiously too fast. Folks in the community boasted the FW had the fastest roll rate of any WWII fighter when in fact the P-47 had a greater roll rate. It's primary tactic to evade an FW attack was to use its superior roll rate. Vidar
Echo38 Posted July 3, 2014 Posted July 3, 2014 (edited) In IL2, the roll rate was obnoxiously too fast. Folks in the community boasted the FW had the fastest roll rate of any WWII fighter when in fact the P-47 had a greater roll rate. It's primary tactic to evade an FW attack was to use its superior roll rate. I agree that IL-2 often relied on imaginary figures for its aircraft & weapon specifications, and so I do not doubt that its portrayal of the roll rates of those two fighters was fantastically erroneous, as was so much else in its portrayal of things. Likewise, I concur that the IL-2 community in general tended to foolishly take the game's portrayal of things as gospel, propagating myths by using the game as a source for statements about the real things. However, despite this agreement, I caution against blanket statements such as "X had a better roll rate." At all speeds? At "normal" speeds? What constitutes "normal"? You get the idea. The only time that I'd be comfortable with a statement like, "The P-47 had a faster toll rate than the FW-190," is if that were true under all conditions. I'm not an expert on those two aircraft, but I suspect that each one rolled better than the other at different speeds -- my examination of other aircraft comparison graphs has indicated that this is often the case. Chief1942 Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 I think I'll Fly the Dora When a plane can take this kind of damage and still fly like it's pristine, then that's the plane for me. No more of the P-51 that goes out of commission with a couple of rounds in her. Intel i5-4690K Devil's Canyon, GForce TitanX, ASUS Z-97A MB, 16GB GDDR3 GSkill mem, Samsung SSD X3,Track IR, TM Warthog, MFG Crosswind pedals, Acer XB280HK monitor,GAMETRIX KW-908 JETSEAT
leafer Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 76 bullets went into the one I flew against yesterday. Seventy-six! I gave up and joined him as his wingman. ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P
flare2000x Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Focke-Wulf. The second most beautiful aircraft of WWII (after the Spitfire). And also, I don't actually own the '51 yet. doraemil Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 I really like both, but I do so much better with cannons. If they had the D10 or D13 . . . I really love the nose cannon. But I like the all around-ness of the p-51.
