WinterH Posted February 3, 2015 Posted February 3, 2015 Worth mentioning, apparently the tiger is the only real and functioning tiger remaining in the world, the Bovington Museum's 131. The movie was better than what I was expecting, I do think it had a few 'Murrica! moments, overall tone wasn't too heavily like that. As usual with many movies, combat scenes weren't particularly believable with, for example, PaK guns hitting Shermans from almost point blank only to have the round ricohcet in a few scenes. Also machine gunners or riflemen firing on tanks (hoping to achieve what? I don't know). I've found Tiger scenes to be done pretty decently (even though Tiger driver did right the opposite of what he should, and more or less the same for Shermans too). I think it did portray intentsitiy and terror of tank combat rather nicely. Wishlist: F-4E Block 53 +, MiG-27K, Su-17M3 or M4, AH-1F or W circa 80s or early 90s, J35 Draken, Kfir C7, Mirage III/V DCS-Dismounts Script

Merlin-27 Posted February 4, 2015 Posted February 4, 2015 And the ending was, well, Hollywood-style. One tank crew versus what, 60-80 German soldiers. I should watch it again just to count the number of bullets the crew expands on these Germans. Are you familiar with the American Medal of Honor recipient Audie Murphy? I took the final battle scene as an adaptation of his legendary actions in the war. The difference is that he pretty much did it alone. While I despise most "hollywood" renditions, I did really enjoy this movie and gained some serious respect for the men who were tankers in WWII. 1.JaVA_Platypus Posted February 8, 2015 Posted February 8, 2015 I saw it on my flight from Peru. It was a good movie, until they came to the crossroads. From there on, it was pretty much a RAMBO, america wins the war alone type of movie. I clearly saw some Panzerfausts on the SS soldiers in the beginning and they didn't use them until very very late. Also, what's the point in charging a tank from head-on? I mean, they were SS soldiers, supposedly the most elite of all. If I was in command I would've ordered my company to stay in cover and give covering fire while a few elite soldiers would sneak up on it from behind to pop a few Panzerfausts in its back. And let them climb up on the tank and finish the job with grenades or shooting pistols rounds through the holes. Waayyyy more effective then keep charging them for hours from the front... Happy Flying! :pilotfly:

Or as someone else said, turn it off when they hit the mine and it will stay a great movie. Loved the atmosphere, and some scenes depicting GI occupation of Germany were very believable. 1.JaVA_Platypus Posted February 10, 2015 Posted February 10, 2015 This^^. Or as someone else said, turn it off when they hit the mine and it will stay a great movie. Loved the atmosphere, and some scenes depicting GI occupation of Germany were very believable. Well, I was on a very long (12+ hours) and boring and sleepless flight so I did have plenty of time to finish many movies. It really is not a bad movie at all. Until the "crossroads" it is a very believable and entertaining movie. And I know a little bit behind-the-scenes stuff that got me excited about it. They used as much real (restored) vehicles and equipment as possible and minimized the CGI stuff. Happy Flying! :pilotfly:
