Kaktus29 Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 ..is it overpriced? i mean for 24 apaches that cost 20 mill a pieace if not less since they are not state of the art as US apaches.. does it really come to 4.8 BILLION $?.. i mean that is 200 million $ for a chopper.. i mean its not like Iraq is buying a Raptor and even raptor is supposed to be less money than this.. true, some extra missiles, engines etc are bought but nowhere to be justified such an exorbiant price.. for this money Iraq could have purchased 160 Mi-28's or Ka-52s.. it seems overly political.. like paying tribute for "protection" .. http://theaviationist.com/2014/01/28/apache-sale-iraq/
WinterH Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 for this money Iraq could have purchased 160 Mi-28's or Ka-52s.. http://theaviationist.com/2014/01/28/apache-sale-iraq/ Well the funny thing is, Iraq, if I'm not mistaken, have also ordered some Mi-35s, and Mi-28s, and while I am not sure, I think I've even read Ka-52 somewhere :D Add to this newly acquired F-16IQ, of which they took first delivery recently and... Su-25, of which they also just took delivery :P, though I can see Su-25 being a good cheapish counter insurgency platform, but having 3-4 different kinds of attack helicopters, and having them from USA and Russia at the same time, surely looks extravagant to me :D Talk about "mix and match". Wishlist: F-4E Block 53 +, MiG-27K, Su-17M3 or M4, AH-1F or W circa 80s or early 90s, J35 Draken, Kfir C7, Mirage III/V DCS-Dismounts Script

But at least one has to consider that they have to buy the whole support infrastructure (maintenance, etc.) as well. And not to forget the costs for the pilot training.
Winfield_Gold Posted June 30, 2014 Posted June 30, 2014 (edited) it's the yanks own money. America gives Iraq billions in aid funding, so really it's just a tax write off. Since ISAS has hit the scene, America is probably looking at it as though it is in the countries best interest to charge massive bucks for the choppers in case the banks fall into ISAS's hands. Let's not forget what happened with Taiwan when communism was spreading through China. America flew into China with C-47s and flew the treasury and corrupt government out of the county to set up Taiwan Mind you, that treasury was in US dollars. This took place, not in 1945 but during the Korean war. Probably won't see that happen in Iraq though leaving the country broke is not in the best interests of the countries who helped prop up the puppet government. Edited June 30, 2014 by Winfield_Gold
