Professorbubba Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 I am not sure if it was asked before. At least, the quick search yield nada. Is the cockpit working not modeled because of hit on framerates?
RazorbackNL Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 The Mi-8 is still in beta and a lot of systems still need some fine tuning. Hopefully one day BST will surprise us with a working fan. Suchacz Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Of course the fan was discussed in more than suficient way, and the general conclusion (from us, not BST) was that Mi-8 wont be completed without working one :D Per aspera ad astra! Professorbubba Posted December 3, 2014 Author Posted December 3, 2014 damn it. This is the reason why heli starts shaking during hover. The fan inside is off, and hence not much of air pressure inside the chopper
Ce_Zeta Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 You have a functional cockpit fan in the Sibwings Antonov An-2 for FSX and in the freeware Kosni Tu-144D for Fs9 and FSX....I fly both, and my conclusion is: a working fan is a total waste of resources. The fan inside is off, and hence not much of air pressure inside the chopperNo, you must be wrong, because when fan is enabled, heli starts to shaking because fan's blades generates a vibration and that causes an unbalance effect for cockpit, and heli of course. :P :) That's why Belsimtek shouldn't make it work. 7rooper Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 A working fan is useless unless screens with blowers are developed. Now if you want it to be exported for your homemade cockpit you should use a real one. The fan is neccesary only as an animated model that could start automatically with the engines. No on/off/speed controls. My rig specs: Intel Core i7 4770 @3.4Ghz // Corsair 16GB DDR3 // MoBo Asus Z87K // HDD 1TB 7200RPM // eVGA Nvidia GTX 760GT 2GB DDR5 // LG 3D 47" 1920x1080 // Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS // Saitek Combat Pro Pedals // Thrustmaster MFD Cougar pack // PS3 Eye + FTNOIR
Flagrum Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 They can develop high powered propeller warbirds accurately ... they surely can develop an aerodynamically correct ventilator, eh? :D

golani79 Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 I'd love to see them animated - useless or not. It just adds to atmosphere and to immersion in my opinion. >> DCS liveries by golani79 <<
Flagrum Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 And the point of that would be...??? Besides more comfort for the pilots? :P ... immersion! (they should therefore also add some rattling and squeaking when it is running! :D)

No on/off/speed controls. You said that already! ;o) And of course I was joking, a "functional", "aerodynamically correctly modelled" fan is ofc really taking it a bit too far. But an animated model - why not? (and in the cockpit there are already controls: at least an on/off switch for two fans, one for the pilot and one for the co-pilot).

Metal Hawk Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 There is a valid reason why the fan should be functional. Mi-8's cockpit field of view is quite small and the fan is right in front of the pilot's sight. If it rotates we can see what's behind the fan blades. It may be a small increase in the field of view but it won't go unnoticed.
Dun_Aenghus Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 We'll need the fan whenever we get to Nevada...seriously, it's really something special about the cockpit of the Mi8. Will we also get functioning wipers on the front the aircraft like the Ka50 at some stage? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
ebabil Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 functional wipers and rain drops at windows would be great FC3 | UH-1 | Mi-8 | A-10C II | F/A-18 | Ka-50 III | F-14 | F-16 | AH-64 | Mi-24 | F-5 | F-15E| F-4| Tornado Persian Gulf | Nevada | Syria | NS-430 | Supercarrier // Wishlist: CH-53 | UH-60 Youtube MS FFB2 - TM Warthog - CH Pro Pedals - Trackir 5
159th_Falcon Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 A working cockpit fan would be great, and BS already stated it will be animated by the time the MI-8 is out of beta. Wizz Posted December 23, 2014 Posted December 23, 2014 The fan isn't about functionality or aesthetics - rather it's a metaphor for the whole DCS experience. I see a large device in front of me, and dammit I want to turn it on.
