Sierra99 Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Gentlemen, I am in the process of converting a Suncom F-15E / SFS throttle set to USB for use with DCS using a BU0836X board for the brains. I have discovered during my research that the Trim Switch on the F-15 is also a Push button. If pressed down it engages the manual 1 program of the CMD (i.e. releases chaff). My original plan was replace the Trim Switch and Castle switches with "Coolie Hat 1 "POV" F16-16" & "Coolie Hat 3 "castellated" F16-19" As listed on this page: http://cougar.flyfoxy.com/warranty_parts.php However, assuming the Coolie hat would fit the shaft...I think the CMS switch for the warthog would be a better choice for the trim switch since it incorporates the push button feature. There lies the problem. I have yet to find an accurate parts list for Warthog Parts. If someone can point me toward a part number or source I'd appreciate it. SilentGun Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 So the suncom f-15e stick doesn't work with DCS default? Sierra99 Posted December 11, 2014 Author Posted December 11, 2014 So the suncom f-15e stick doesn't work with DCS default? (Asking because I have one and will sell it if it doesn't) Not as far as I know...assuming we're talking about the same stick and throttle, the ones I have are 15 pin game port devices that emulate keyboard commands. This is why I am converting them over to USB... Now I'm curious why you asked...do you know something I dont? Well there are gameport to USB adapters so if I use just the stick and throttle and no modifications to it will it work? Sierra99 Posted December 11, 2014 Author Posted December 11, 2014 Well there are gameport to USB adapters so if I use just the stick and throttle and no modifications to it will it work? I'm not sure...it looks like we are approaching the same problem from different angles. I decided to go the USB route for the fun of it...a project. I know googling Gameport to USB nets lots of hits. I remember seeing something about only needing an older PC that would boot. It didn't even need an operating system. As long as the keyboard was working you could program the stick... Be dammed if I can find it. Ow. Deadman Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 As afar as I know there is not a parts list. When I decided to use a Warthog throttle right grip plate and Coolie hat to convert my real A model throttle to a C model. I called TM talked to a very nice young lady i explained the parts I wanted and got a email after an exchange of a few pictures to confirm the exact parts and a price quote I order what I needed. I am waiting on delivery now from France.I googled teh contacts for TM here they are . http://ts.thrustmaster.com/eng/index.php?pg=contact https://forum.dcs.world/topic/133818-deadmans-cockpit-base-plans/#comment-133824 CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans.
Sokol1_br Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 Well there are gameport to USB adapters so if I use just the stick and throttle and no modifications to it will it work? Generic Gameport >USB adapter dont work because most Suncom buttons are send by keyboard emulation, the PS2 cable. But Real Simulator guys has a proper adapter, the FUSB: Sokol1
SilentGun Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 ^^^ darn 120$ :/ oh well... OverDhill Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 Neither the BU0836X or the GP-Wiz40 emulate the keyboard. They both are registered as true joysticks and can be assigned in the game as such. I have one BU0836X and two GP-Wiz40. Each one can register multiple buttons at the same time and respond instantly. So I am not sure what is un-proper about either one. The BU0836X has more analog inputs (and costs almost twice as much) but both can handle rotary encoders as well as pots.
SilentGun Posted December 12, 2014 Posted December 12, 2014 So I have an F-15E Talon joystick and sfs throttle. Will that still work with the FUSB? I'm going to start a new thread to document converting a couple of these to USB. from what I've figured out so far, using parts canned from a Thrustmaster F22 (20.00 -30.00 on eBay) and scratch building a few necessary pieces, it's going to be a fairly straight forward process. Sokol1_br Posted December 13, 2014 Posted December 13, 2014 A different approach for F-15 Talon and SFS, making a new PCB with PIC18F25K50 - what is cheap, but the SMD format is PITA do home DIY... http://theseger.com/projects/2014/04/converting-old-joysticks/ http://theseger.com/projects/2014/09/converting-suncom-sfs-throttle-usb/
Sierra99 Posted December 16, 2014 Author Posted December 16, 2014 (edited) Ok thanks! Sorry for kinda turning your thread into a completely different rout. I just love this stick and would love to see it work on DCS. And what do you mean by converting a couple? Well I have 2 sticks. An F-15E Talon and the stick that came with the SFS Throttle. The SFS stick is a stripped down model... When I'm finished I would like all of the buttons and switches to work correctly. At this point the Trim switch lacks push button capability and the thumb switch does not have forward or back. Both look to be pretty straight forward to add just need to make a trip to hobby lobby for some parts. I plan to leave the circuit board in place since the switches for the trigger and thumb button can be used by tapping off the switches already in place. I'm going to add the rudder trim switch to the throttles... I'll start posting pics as I go. What version stick do you have?
