Hello Comunity,

i have written a small tutorial to use the Cougar Microstick as a axis, but i have a small problem with the LockOn Configuration.

But first the HowTo:

--- HOWTO -----------------------------------------------------------

I tried a lot of using the microstick as axis but I got no result.

Today a friend told me that I can easily switch the axis, so that the toe-breake-axis will disable and the microstick-axis will enable. Ok I googled and tried and….

It would happen: The Microstick is used as axis :)

How? Very easy:

1. Open the HOTAS-Control Panel

2. Re-Set the Microstick-X Axis to another Axis (in my example 6)

3. Re-Set the Microstick-Y Axis to another Axis (in my example 8)

4. Check the „Apply enable/disable Windows axes states“

5. Apply

The device must reset and… done!

Now you can use the microstick axis in your game

P.S.: many thanks to burnout for the tip

regards

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Okay now my problem:

The axis will be show'n like the picture above. When i set the:

"TDS slew horzontal" to Rotator2 and the

"TDS slew vertivcal" to Rotator1 it looks first okay

but in flight (expl. A-10) the radar-cursor will not be moved like a mouse (expl. MicrostickX moves Radar cursor. When i stop using the microstick the radar cursor stopped at the current position.)

Every time when i stoped using the microstick, the radarsursor jumps into the center-position. It is very hard to designate a target.

Can you help me to fix this? Or is there any trick? Or should it be?

thanks for answering

You should try to program your stick. It isn't so hard. I followed the tutorials in Foxy and made my own joystick file for lock-on.

Now here's what I programmed for the TDC:

tmj:

MIX 3 Move_Designator_Down ^ Move_Designator_Up

MIY 3 Move_Designator_Right ^ Move_Designator_Left

and the tmm is:

Move_Designator_Up = ;

Move_Designator_Down = .

Move_Designator_Right = /

Move_Designator_Left = ,

and it works for me ;)

many thanks for your answers

@Odin_Norway: that's what i have done before and im not very happy with this. The radar-cursor is very slow and not exactly to move and position. An analouge axis is not the same ;)

@Necroscope: i have tried it before as mouse-function, but i don't like this. Cause my ministick is no mouse :(

Is there a option or switch to fix this (in a config file)?

Im sure that this techique is not realy wanted.

many thanks again

The simplest solution, and the one that gives you the greatest degree of smoothness on the TDC is setting the microstick to act as the mouse then mapping the TDC to the mouse axis in LOFC. I suppose this solution might not be acceptable for those who pan the view with the mouse due to lack of TrackIR.

As far as I know there is unable to use microstick with "shift" key.

You also can try this strings:

MIX 5 6 (0 15 35 50 65 85 100) MSX(6-) MSX(3-) MSX(1-) MSX(0) MSX(1+) MSX(3+) MSX(6+)

MIY 5 6 (0 15 35 50 65 85 100) MSY(6+) MSY(3+) MSY(1+) MSY(0) MSY(1-) MSY(3-) MSY(6-)

OR

MIX 3 ScanBoxLEFT ^ ScanBoxRIGHT

MIY 3 ScanBoxDOWN ^ ScanBoxUP

But

USE MICROSTICK AS MOUSE (8, 2) - NO_BUTTON

is better for LockOn!

Anyone have a profile for x52?? :P

Hey Amraam,

I dunno why, but it seems a lot of people don't know this. I've been using the "mini-stick" as TDC slew control for a long time.

All you have to do is go under the "profiler" and make sure your ministick is setup as mouse axis X and Y correspondingly. (should be by default)

then, in game simply go to OPTIONS>INPUT

In this screen, select the MOUSE from the drop down menu, then select AXIS from the toggle.

You'll see the following 3 in the list:

ZOOM blah, blah...

TDC slew Horizontal

TDC slew Vertical

Assign an axis from the DROP DOWN menu, when you click on CHANGE.

You should have:

AXIS0

AXIS1

AXIS2

I dont have the game installed here at work, but if I remember right, it should be something like this:

ZOOM blah, blah: AXIS2

TDC slew Horizontal: AXIS0

TDC slew Vertical: AXIS1

That might be incorrect, but it's easy to figure out. Lastly, make sure MOUSEVIEW is enabled in the config file.

thats it, your MINISTICK will control your TDC (you can change the sensitivity under the profiler for a faster/slower TDC)

cheers.

(I'll try to include a screenshot later)

hi,

many thanks again for your answers. I have tried the "use microstick as mouse" function, but my mouse is a lot of stuttering. I had set the sensibility to very high in LockOn to get a nearly fast mouse move.

Can you tell me how to get this smooth?

thanks for reply ;)

How to set the mouse to change your view in the cockpit?

I did the search and couldn't find this. Before I modded my game with the FC add on I had my mouse set up to look around the cockpit. I've checked every single menu under every option in the game and I can't figure out how to get that back.

Anybody know how to do this?

For as long as I have had this thing I have never been able to figure out which axis is X and which is Y on the microstick ...any one know?

My mission is to fly, fight, and win. o-:|:-o What I do is sometimes get a tin of soup, heat it up, poach an egg in it, serve that with a pork pie sausage roll.

The Cougar has a software, the "Hotas Cougar Control Panel" .. opent it, select the Startup&Calibration tab, click on "Manual Calibration".

During the calibration you will be able to identify each axis of the Cougar .. when it's the turn of the Microstick axes, pay attention to the raw values and you should then be able to figure out which is X and which is Y.

If you put your throttle handle nice in the middle, X-axis is forwards/backwards, Y-axis is up/down.
