FlyingHighAU Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 I'm not able to figure out how to put several human piloted planes into the same group. Is there a trick to it?
Grimes Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 You can't. Each player needs to be in its own group. The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world. baltic_dragon Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 The only thing I would advise is to insert the first flight, set up weapons, squadron and waypoints, then just CTR+C and CTR+V it to create another one. Change group name to something making sense (so, first one is Dodge 1-1, second Dodge 1-2), change pilot's name if you like and change the bort number. You are good to go. Zayets Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 I believe you must use Dodge 1-1, Dodge 2-1 etc. because 1-2 it will be overwritten with 1-1 if the plane is first one in the group (and it should since is the only one). [sIGPIC]OK[/sIGPIC]
johnv2pt0 Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 You can't. Each player needs to be in its own group. I've long wondered as to the reason why. Do you know? It seems like such a little thing...
Aginor Posted January 26, 2015 Posted January 26, 2015 Yeah, that sucks. I hope they change it soon. Maybe the reason for it is that a player can never be #2 or #3, because the AI can't give you commands. (I'd like to see that, though). At least they could check if the lead slot is a player, then #2 can also be a player. So at least players could be in one package. But the best solution IMO would be: - improve AI, at least a bit. - give AI the possibility to send commands to players - enable the option to be a human wingman 1 DCSW weapons cheat sheet speed cheat sheet

Grimes Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 I've long wondered as to the reason why. Do you know? It seems like such a little thing... Its been a long standing request. I don't really know the specifics of why it hasn't been done yet. My best guess is that the skill level of "client" is much much more than simply a skill level and by necessity each client must be in their own group. Maybe the reason for it is that a player can never be #2 or #3, because the AI can't give you commands. (I'd like to see that, though). A big part of the problem is their is no "flight leader AI" in that they order different units within the group to do different things. Currently it appears that each flight member does their own thing but references the groups decisions to make its own decision. In my opinion you'd need the flight leader AI to manage an all AI flight and then to factor the player into it you'd have to build a messaging system that follows the leaders AI commands. It is kind of a nightmare to code. The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world. Belgeode Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 Has being done before. I was gonna say, didn't Falcon 4.0 have it where you could all be a part of the same flight as wingmen? Or did I hallucinate those years? (Which is entirely possible) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] YouTube ~ Twitch
Aginor Posted January 27, 2015 Posted January 27, 2015 It isn't easy to code, and people will notice that the AI lead will sometimes - or even often - give pretty bad commands. But I still think it would be worth trying. DCSW weapons cheat sheet speed cheat sheet

(Which is entirely possible) Not sure about the original, but you can in Falcon 4 BMS, and if someone drops out, AI takes over. It also models link 16 for the flight. Edited January 27, 2015 by emg
Yurgon Posted January 28, 2015 Posted January 28, 2015 I was gonna say, didn't Falcon 4.0 have it where you could all be a part of the same flight as wingmen? Or did I hallucinate those years? (Which is entirely possible) Pretty sure stock Falcon 4.0 included this; I flew my first campaigns there, starting as a rookie wingman and then later on I decided that the AI was plain stupid so in later missions I took the slot of lead and led my wingmen into disasters much worse than my previous leads had done. :D I'm not sure about the coding nightmare of such a messaging system, though. Definitely sounds like a challenge, but if done well, it could improve AI behavior while at the same time allowing much more interaction between human players and AI. (By which I definitely don't mean to imply it's simple or a matter of a few days; just that, a little further down the road, it would be awesome if ED implemented something like this )
Belgeode Posted January 29, 2015 Posted January 29, 2015 OK good, then I am not going crazy then. Yeah it would be nice if this were implemented here. It's band enough my wingmen always try to formation land with me... ON A CARRIER. I would hate to see what they would do if they were the wing leader. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] YouTube ~ Twitch
