Airborne drag-chute deployment on landing(Video)

@7:22 you can see a drag chute deployment a few meters above the runway, pretty cool IMHO:) (Tu-154, twin-otter...can do it too)

Anybody have some info on this procedure for the 21? was it used in emergency only? or was it a standard procedure for short runways?

Going to try this in the sim when I have time, hope it works out ok;)

Thanx!

Well clearly the landing gear can take a beating... #stronggear #leatherneckfixplease

Gotta catch them all bandits! :joystick:

That was quite a hard landing. I expect they needed to do a "bumpy landing" inspection after that. More work for the mechanics, they probably won't love the pilots for landing like this and mistreating 'their' aircraft. ;)

I know more soviet aircraft use to do landings like this. It greatly shortens the needed runway length at landings.

Happy Flying! :pilotfly:

Then again The Mechanics would probably have me killed for half my landings and all the other thigns i do to there beloved aircraft :music_whistling:

At last Summer's Payerne air show, a Polish Su-22 deployed the chute during the flare. While not so high as in this video, it was still pretty cool :)

Is this what you mean @3:30? yes it looks cool;) I haven't had any success doing it with ours Mig-21...yet.

holy crap! That's awesome. I always wondered if you can deploy the chute " in air"...if u can shut off engines and drift down with ur jet hanging from a parachute. lol

IIRC,there may be two models (devs correct me if I am mistaken) and the chute logic may only work once the aircraft is on ground? I know there was the mention of a separate taxi physics model....don't know if the chute is connected to "contact physics model with the ground"

Something like this? :D

LOL! nice!

Did u notice drag? any sort of sluggishness in aircraft performance? How long was the chute open before it got ripped apart? :p

I didn´t notice any different behavior in flight performance - also the chute wasn´t ripped of.

I was flying with 651 knots and performing different manoeuvres though.

It has been a while since this "incident" :D

Wasn´t sure if it was a bug or not so I´ve posted it in the general bug forums but I got no response.

Haven´t tried it since ^^

@frischi

It says touchdown should be at 260...280 km/h. I wonder how this works?

The only way that I found to get the plane safely down is to approach at 380 km/h,

350 over the treshold and touchdown at about 320..330.

Otherwise I cannot see the runway during approach and vertical speed drastically

increases at low speed.

You're probably too heavy. Try to land with no weapons and 700l fuel.

I usualy touchdown around 290 km/h, works fine for me :D
