Ok, so I was finally able to kill all the SAMs in the 2nd Jackal campaign mission (after like 8-attempts - that SA19 got me every time!) and now it was time to contact JTAC for the final targets.

However, I needed to rearm/refuel in order to complete the final task with JTAC, so I land, park and request rearm/refuel at my base. Never received a response from the ground crew at all when I made the request, and my wingman parked in a hardened hangar and closed the doors...mission over before it was over...now I gotta do it again.

So after looking through the forums here, I find out that you need to spool off the engines in order to accomplish the rearm/refuel....why didn't I think of that? So question is when I park, do I need to completely shut the jet down (electrical, CDU, etc), or just kill the engines?

Also, how to keep my wingman from parking and calling it a day? I'd like him to rearm/refuel as well, not park and go home.

Thanks in advance,

You should only need to open the canopy so that your crew chief can hear your request, or flip to the interphone channel, and he'll refuel you and rearm you and you can keep your engines spinning.

They do this in real life too.

Warning: Nothing I say is automatically correct, even if I think it is.

Oh, I see. I was using the UHF radio(tower) and requesting that way. So I can just pull up, open that canopy and request.

Cool, I'll try that. Thanks!

Any idea how to keep my wingman from parking, instead of rearming/refueling?

Thanks again P*Funk!

No you don't need to spool down the engines to refuel or rearm, or open the canopy to contact the ground crew. The only time I spool down the engines is to repair.

If you going to spool down the engines and you want to keep the systems up a running then you need to do either or both,

1. Ask for ground power before spooling down

2 spool up you APU and switch on the apu gen. you will need the apu running anyway to spool the engines back up.

Make sure your communication with the ground crew is over the interphone. They will not answer on FM, AM or UHF. IF I am wrong about any of this I am sure some knowitall will take me out about it.

Once you land your wingman is out of the picture, he goes home for a beer, next time you will see him is in a new mission, I have not played that campaign yet but I doubt its any different to normal operating procedures in DCS.

Great! Thanks guys, this is very helpful info. Nevyn, that was my next question actually...how to properly spool down, in order to spool right back up in same mission.

I don't have my intercom mapped...didn't know I needed it until now. I have my mic-switch mapped with fore, aft and down....I'll add up and use that for my intercom (TM A10-Warthog HOTAS). This must have been my main issue with no-reply at all from ground crew.

Thanks again fellas'!

You don't really have to map the mic up switch. All you need to do is as P*Funk said, turn the Intercom Control panel rotary (page 153 in the flight manual) to INT and press mic switch forward.

To the top of the radio menu it now says "Intercom", press F8, then F1 for Re-arm and re-fuel to access the selection menu.

The Intercom Control panel rotary switch set the use of mic switch forward, so remember to set it back to VHF after re-arm/re-fuel. Otherwise you cannot contact tower on VFH AM.

HM (hot mic) switch should be also pushed with deal of INT rotary selector dial.

Spool down with APU running is required when you order to repair.

You shouldn't even have to do that. As long as you have the "INT" and "HM" knob pulled up on the Intercom Control panel the pilot has a hot mic with the intercom.

Aha thanks I didn't know that. Will try it tonight. Thanks Snoopy.

*Edit*

Ok I got it to work. In order for me to get it to work I first press any MIC switches on throttle, then I pull out "HM" switch on intercom control panel and then do the radio menu selection. If the "HM" switch was already out then I have to press any MIC switch on throttle followed by "HM" push in, then pull out and then do a radio menu selection.

It only works if I do move "HM" after I have pressed any of the MIC switches on the throttle.

I'll have to try this, because what has been happening to me is that (while using easy comms), i select INT in the rotary and when i press "/" to open up the comms menu, the rotary spins back into vhf automatically and i have a the Ground Crew option blacked out.

This happened to me when I enabled "Easy communications" in the options menu. Unchecking it solved the problem.
