OK, so I try to engage hover mode.

but my nose goes high and my helicopter goes backwards.

help !

thanks.

You should have the aircraft already trimmed in a more or less stable hover before you engage the hover hold mode. The mode will not make your helo automagically hover wherever you enabled it. Instead it is just intended to keep your helo in hover that you have established yourself before. Otherwise the FCS will have a hard time with it's limited control authority and that will also result in heavy maneuvering.

Regarding the helo going backwards: the hover hold mode will try to establish the hover at the point over ground where you enabled it. If you now enable it during forward flight, that point will be somewhere aft - and there the helo will try to get back to.

Just a short addendum to what Flagrum wrote:

This mode is simply badly labeled. It shouldn't be labeled "Auto hover", it should be labeled "Hover hold" and there would be much less confusion about it.

(And if I was to design such a system, I'd probably make the switch non-functional unless the helo was flying no more than, say, 20 kph in any given direction, and issue an audible and EKRAN warning otherwise upon activation of the function).

I find you don't have to be in a perfect hover before you engage the auto hover. Just get yourself into something that slightly resembles a hover, engage your other 4 autopilot modes, and trim your aircraft out before hitting the auto hover button. Once you do that, the aircraft should stabilize

WHat I do to achieve what you try to do:

A:Trim the Ka slightly forward FIRST THING after switching the beast ON,

so you can lift off without causing the crew to fix your tail boom.

B: BEFORE you hit the "HOVER" button, make sure you have trimmed your stick so it will almost hover by itself and have your speed between 0-15km/h.

C: After HOVER is engaged the system tries to get your AC back to the GPS coordinates it were when you hit the button. It will compensate, in its limits, for wind and speed ( speed means your stick is BADLY trimmed ).

D: Disengage Hover once you feel comfortable with the spot you are in, doesnt actually need to be the GPS point it wants to fly to. Engage Hover again to reset the new point to your actual point of hover ( while you now have properly trimmed your stick to not let the helo drift away ).

In some missions there is a harsh wind and if you hover perpendicular to such a wind you better be fully awake and capable of doing such manouvers.

YOu have to dial in a good amount of roll INTO the wind to compensate side drift as the autopilot will ne be authoritative enough to compensate by itself.

X-Check your height above ground, gusts tend to blow it up or down too.

Learn to hover by hand first, is my best and first advice !!!!

Once you can hover in FD mode without any stress you should work the AutoHover function, not other way around.

Trim will reset the GPS position for the Auto Hover.

Without touching your cyclic or rudder hover trim position.. press trim and this will reset your hover hold position.

This position can be seen on the horizontal situation indicator (HSI). The thick cross hair notes the hover position and its deviation.

I generally engage Auto hover after achieving a manual hover with around 6Km of drift.

Actually it can help you get in to hover really fast, because it still tries to get the helicopter to slow down even at 200+

Dunno, maybe that works, but I don't think it'll ever be my preferred way to slow down. :music_whistling:

I get to a halt quicker manually anyways ...:D

a high bank 270 and you are standing still, just gotta be quick and precise on the pitch.

You can even do this at 25m flat out with some exercise.

I don't use the hover mode and wouldn't recommend it, as it makes you a sitting duck. I always have my Shkval slaved to the target's location on the PRTz panel and fly manually with the FD/AP mode back and fourth.
