I found this very intresting 40" 4K monitor and at a very reasonable price ~700€. It can do 60hz through Dispaly Port, i really think DCSW will go well in it

But the difference is that this Philips Model is actually a Monitor, not a TV, which has its advantages. Also i am not sure TVs have Display Port?

Missed that 'little' detail. If I can find that over here I would definitely consider it.

I got mine yesterday and it's AWESOME! Compared to my previous 27" 1080p, this is an absolute beast.

I was a little worried at first that 60hz isn't going to work for me until I found out you have to set the monitor to DP 1.2 in the settings.

The difference playing DCS is night and day. First thing that you notice is the the DCS UI elements are too small for this kind of resolution! Having a trackir I always thought I don't need a large FOV, but it sure improves the immersion. Not only that, the pixel density needs to be seen to be believed. Even at this size the 4k resolution is extremely fine compared to my much smaller 1080p. I've turned the AA down to 2x to boost performance and the picture still looks 100% jaggy free.

Could you do me a favour please and let the monitor run in 1920x1080 with DCS to verify the interpolation skills of this screen?

I'd like to buy the Philips BDM4065UC too in near future, and it would be very important for me how the picture quality looks like in Full HD instead of 4k.

Screenies would be vers nice if possible...

Is this because you don't have the horsepower to run 4k yet?

I'll check it out for you when I get home today. I won't be able to show you a screenie though... I mean I can, but it won't be a representation of what's seen on screen. The screenshots will just be regular screenshots in 1080p.

Yes, at the moment it's important for me due to lack of GPU power. Waiting for next GPU gen but this will take some time until good performance/price ratio.

Planning triple BDM4065UC in far future when displays and GPU were lots cheaper.

You could really help me with your subjective opinion of displaying in interpolated Full HD only. So no really need of screenshots. Important is how pixels behave. Is it blurry and how good to recognise enemy targets. I do hope that the picture is much better than at my standard Samsung 40" Full-HD-TV in my bedroom due to higher pixel density so i can give a go to my first BDM4065UC.

Thx in advance!

Ok, I've finally got the chance to test the monitor in its non-native resolution.

The first time I tried to set DCS World to 1080p i got horrible red flickering. I then tried it with HDMI and it looks fine.

So it seems non-native resolutions won't work with display port for some reason.

The resolution in 1080p looks OK. It's not overwhelming though. I guess I'm too used to the 4k now. You'll need a lot of antialiasing to get rid of the jaggies, but at the 40" scale this still translates to a blurrier image.

Not because the scaling is particularly blurry... The problem is the pixels are visibly quite large. However, this is a problem you're going to have with any large scale 1080p monitor.

Overall it's a smoothe image though.

Still, it's nothing compared to the fine pixel density at full resolution.

Big thank you for taking the time to test this out for me!

Thats exactly what i like to hear! So i can play with 1080p till buying a bigger GPU without destroying my older eyes:thumbup:

Now i can give the Philips a go.

Wish ya a nice evening!

I also just ordered the Philips.

Because I currently use Helios and Gauges Export on a second monitor, I wonder If I can run the 4K resolution an keep my HELIOS Touchscreen with one GTX 970? DCS will then run with 3820x3240 (3820x2160+1920x1080)

If not, would it work with another GFX Card without SLI?

If neither that would work, SLI would be my only chance? Right?

For those in the knowhow, and slightly off topic.

Would enabling DSR with an Nvida card on my 1080p monitor be a sufficient indicator of performance with a native 4k monitor?

Basically I am asking if its a decent test of whether I will be able to run 4k resolution before buying a 4k monitor?

Current specs: Windows 10 Home 64bit, i5-9600K @ 3.7 Ghz, 32GB DDR4 RAM, 1TB Samsung EVO 860 M.2 SSD, GAINWARD RTX2060 6GB, Oculus Rift S, MS FFB2 Sidewinder + Warthog Throttle Quadrant, Saitek Pro rudder pedals.

Why would you buy an even better card if another GTX970 is cheaper? (OK, I guess you can sell the GTX970). The only thing better right now is the GTX980.

My findings with the Asus Monitoring Tool are such that with 4GB VRAM you better dont 4k at all as 1440p already saturate VRAM up to 3.8GB according to my GPU logs from a few hours flight in the MiG-15bis.

The VRAM usage is between 3.6 and 3.8 GB with the following settings at 1440p full screen, NV panel at defaults.

I now know why this Titan-X has 12GB...

Before I installed the MoreVisibility mod it was like 200-400MB less iirc. So still, not enough headroom to scale from 1440p to 4k. It would need at least 8GB I guess, better more.

1440p = 3.686.400 pixel ~ 3.7mil

2160p = 8.29.4400 pixel ~ 8.3mil

= 2.24 fold the amount of pixels 2.24 x 3.8GB = estimated 8.54GB VRAM usage

You better aim HIGH, nothing below 12GB if I am not terribly wrong.

Wish I was...

I second this request, I just started looking into upgrading my 5 year old 22 inch monitor and I don't really know what to look out for in a monitor that will function primarily as a combat flight sim monitor!
