predator036 Posted May 22, 2016 Posted May 22, 2016 (edited) I am installing the file 6MB called DCS World 2.0 Early Access and me is downloading from your own application, "DCS updater 2.6.17.0" and occupies 10167.8 Mbytes and puts me "torrenting the update files". I'm doing it correctly ?? Having downloaded this version 2.6170' i have a lot of lost frames in RV ???? excuse me for all questions, im begineer in dcs world. tranks you very much for all greetings Edit: After becoming all the download process, I unpacked installation, let me 2.0.2.52658.72 version installed. That's not the version I want, because it seems to be losing frames and has a worse performance in virtual reality. Please as I can install version 2.0 and do not update me ??????? thank you very much greetings Edited May 23, 2016 by predator036
hansangb Posted May 23, 2016 Posted May 23, 2016 Hmm, I'm not sure. I haven't been able to fire up DCS in more than 2 weeks due to work/travel. But I don't recall too many posts about latest version suffering VR problems. There is a 2.0 performance thread that may be worth checking out. But maybe someone else can chime in here. Also, you can always say "don't upgrade" when the program asks to upgrade the software. hsb HW Spec in Spoiler --- i7-10700K Direct-To-Die/OC'ed to 5.1GHz, MSI Z490 MB, 32GB DDR4 3200MHz, EVGA 2080 Ti FTW3, NVMe+SSD, Win 10 x64 Pro, MFG, Warthog, TM MFDs, Komodo Huey set, Rverbe G1
Hollywood_315 Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 Hey guys I'm trying to optimize my Vive setup for smooth DCS gameplay with 970GTX. Have people been playing around with NVIDIA settings yet? I seem to get *reasonable* results with below (not fantastic, still some stutter when moving my head around but other than that reasonably smooth). Appreciate if people want to have a look and let me know their thoughts: SteamVR: Reprojection ON DCS: (low graphics settings) DCS: VSync ON NVIDIA Control Panel: VR pre-rendered frames: use 3D application settings NVIDIA Control Panel: Threaded Optimization OFF NVIDIA Inspector: Frame Rate Limiter: PS_FRAMERATE_LIMITER_USE_CPU_WAIT This seems to get me to a pretty stable 45 fps all-round also around city areas. Investigations continue, I'm particularly annoyed still by this stutter of head movement I wonder what could be causing it, looks like a buffer thing or something or perhaps its pre-rendered frames that cause these hickups? All inputs are appreciated as always :pilotfly: Thanks There is no spoon. VAICOM PRO plugin for DCS World www.vaicompro.com
DracoLlasa Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 i have been looking to get a VR headset and have been mostly leaning towards the Vive over the Rift. I read that last couple posts or page or so of this thread (sorry its way to long) but i wanted to try and confirm if the Vive works with the regular installed version of DCS World. almost all of my purchased modules are directly from ED and not through steam. so i wanted to make sure i could use the Vive without the steam version of DCS:W On a side note please let me know if the Rift would be a better choice overall for someone who mostly does sims (space and air). TIA All my DCS modules are from DCS. And Vive works just fine. Right now, the ATW (asynchronous time warp) function is only available with Rift. I've been using the Vive for about a week now, and I'm about to setup the Rift this week. I'll compare the two, see which I prefer and sell of the one that I don't want to keep. It may be a toss up if room scale tracking is not a decision factor. Anyway, I'll post some videos of Huey and A10 (what I fly primarily, but do have all modules except the Mig line) that compares both HMDs. hsb HW Spec in Spoiler --- i7-10700K Direct-To-Die/OC'ed to 5.1GHz, MSI Z490 MB, 32GB DDR4 3200MHz, EVGA 2080 Ti FTW3, NVMe+SSD, Win 10 x64 Pro, MFG, Warthog, TM MFDs, Komodo Huey set, Rverbe G1
DracoLlasa Posted May 24, 2016 Posted May 24, 2016 Thanks for the feedback.. i have seen youtube videos of DCS from both the Rift and Vive, i think its just about impossible to really gauge the quality differences from a video capture of the VR Vvideo feed. That said, your commentary or even written feedback would probably be worth more than the actual video unless you are able to show any 'side by side' comparision/differences. thanks again and i do look forward to the comparison [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] i5 8600K OC @ 5.0GHz w/ Corsair H100i Liquid Cooler| MSI GTX 1080 OC Edition | 32GB DDR4 3600 | EVO 960 NVMe SSD | WD Black NVMe SSD Win10 X64 | TrackIR 5 | HTC Vive | Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS and Cougar MFDs | Saitek Combat Pedals

All inputs are appreciated as always :pilotfly: Thanks I think the head movement stutter is coming from your FPS dropping below 45fps every now and again. Reprojection requires it to be at least 45 to work, so any time it drops below it stutters a lot, at least this is my general understanding. I'd recommend turning off v-sync though, let the Vive decide what to do RE when and how frames arrive. Again, it looks like reprojection isn't matching the performance benefit (or appearance of performance) that Asynchronous Time Warp does. Fingers crossed Vive will get something comparable soon as not many people will push consistently above 45 fps on anything but the lowest of the low quality settings. skyshark95 Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 Fixing Stutter I'm running a i5 4690K with a GTX970, and I almost gave up on my Vive due to stutter and sweet spot size. However, I was able to resolve my stutter issues in most situations by disabling all background tasks/processes and closing all non-DCS windows. I also have to run the game on the lowest graphics settings. For the sweet spot size, I replaced the foam face padding with a piece of felt. This made much more of the screen in focus and also increased field of view. It sounds like this doesn't work for everyone due to variations in facial structure, but I'd recommend you give it a try if you're having issues. After these changes, the Vive has been great for me. I hope this helps someone else. Good luck!
Vivoune Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 Hey guys [...] VSync ON [...] that cause these hickups? Disable V-sync should solve your stuttering. Though with a GTX970 you'll still have some frame drops around towns that'll bring some stuttering back [...] I wanted to try and confirm if the Vive works with the regular installed version of DCS World. On a side note please let me know if the Rift would be a better choice overall for someone who mostly does sims (space and air). TIA I'm buying all my modules through Eagle Dynamic's websites, no problem running 1.5 or 2.0 in the Vive. The Vive isn't locked to Steam games. As for which HMD is the better choice, it's a bit like buying a TV, there's only compromises, some will prefer some features different than others. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Hollywood_315 Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 Sure enough, VSync OFF seems to be a big improvement for getting rid of stuttering. Thanks all! There is no spoon. VAICOM PRO plugin for DCS World www.vaicompro.com

erjdriver Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 Question about the VIVE Thinking about getting this device... I understand there's 2 wall mounted units - for walking around experience. I think both have to be within sight of each other - i.e. facing each other. But for DCS, I'll be sitting down and my seat is more in the corner of the room. So will I have to move these 2 boxes - so that they're both in front of me when sitting in the corner. Are those 2 boxes and for that matter the hand-held devices necessary for DCS - because I plan to use my HOTAS.
Milopapa Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 Can someone please explain to me how to adjust your default cockpit position relative to your VIVE playspace? I'd like to have it so I can be seated at the right height (in cockpit) next to my desk. Instead of having to stand up in a random part of my room... No need to do that. My seated position is outside my play area. I just sit down and play. DCS won't draw my chaperon, so I can safely ignore it. EDIT: Play area is for roomscale games, where they need to know the available space. For seated, it doesn't matter, plus you don't need chaperon to keep you safe - although I hit my desk a few times when looking to low in the cockpit :) PC HW: i5 3770k@4.6GHz | Asus 1080Ti | 16GB DDR3 | Samsung 850 EVO | MSI MPower Z77 Input: MS FFB2 w/ F-16 FLCS grip | CH Pro Throttle | MFG Crosswind | HTC Vive DCS modules: F-14, FW-190, P-51, Bf109, UH1, Mi-8, FC3, CE2

Here's my layout: As you can see, I have the basestations in the corner of the room, one of them sitting above me, looking down. I also sit in the corner, that's where my PC desk is, facing the basestation. This works perfectly fine for both roomscale and seated (also see my previous post above). Hope this helps. Kirin Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 I am using Manfrotto Super Clamps for mounting. They allow for quick unmounting as well - so there is no problem switching the lighthouses around. For my simpit I mounted one lighthouse in the left rear and the other in the right front corner - really up high, pointing down. This assures I keep tracking even at extreme positions like turning around 180° or leaning down to the side panels.
Hollywood_315 Posted May 27, 2016 Posted May 27, 2016 While doing some more testing I seem to get a much smoother performance in DCS when SteamVR / Steam are not running in the background. It appears to me you don't need it for anything when flying DCS anyway, my Vive is recognized just fine by DCS without SteamVR running. Could be specifc to my setup, but thought it might be useful to share. There is no spoon. VAICOM PRO plugin for DCS World www.vaicompro.com

For general information, not even the HTC software is needed for anything Vive related, including Steam games/apps or stand alone software like DCS. I can't hardly believe what I'm living since yesterday after so many time waiting, but I have my Vive! \(^.^)/ Edited May 27, 2016 by average_pilot
Hollywood_315 Posted May 28, 2016 Posted May 28, 2016 I've tried this also, but in my case it seemed as if "Allow Reprojection" was not functioning accompanied by a noticeable stuttering. That's well possible of course, setups differ. For myself everything including reprojection works like a charm now with DCS 1.5 without SteamVR running. I'm guessing the VR driver settings are stored in registry somewhere and don't need the SteamVR app to enforce them. I'm on Win7x64. Also I found some more perceveid gain in smoothness during testing, this time by disabling unnecessary background services presumably having to do with HTC's e-shop. Again: this helps for my setup, maybe not for everyone, but could be worth checking out if you want to optimize your system: *) service ViveFSM Service: change startup mode from Automatic to Manual *) service Viveport Services: change startup mode from Automatic to Manual *) service HTC Account Service: change startup mode from Automatic to Manual *) using msconfig (look this up on internet if you're not familiar with it) I disabled startup for HTCVRMarketplaceUserContextHelper Per ardua ad astra There is no spoon. Hollywood_315 Posted May 28, 2016 Posted May 28, 2016 OK Hollywood, just did, and not activating SteamVR does seem to help even more in resolving the stutter issue I was having. I'd say I'm about 97% stutter free now. And that's with some of the DCS Graphics Options not fully set to minimal :) Cool, good to hear! There is no spoon. npole Posted May 30, 2016 Posted May 30, 2016 Hi everyone, I own a 980Ti Hybrid (OC'ed) and a 6core 4.3Ghz... To get rid of the jitters, I have to set everything on OFF (textures.. etc.), is it normal or I'm doing something wrong? I have set the VSYNC already off.

Nascar Posted May 30, 2016 Posted May 30, 2016 @npol I find that sometimes when I start out I have stutters but they seem to smooth out after a couple minutes. Maybe the environment is being cached.
