I have noticed on some pics I have of what i believe is a Ka-50. I realized the gun is mounted under the nose of the aircraft, like a chin turrent. Now with the pics I see of the BS the there are dual guns mounted on the wings of the body. Can anyone explain why they are in different spots and which version of the Ka-50 are we going to get to fly? (Like B-17F to B-17G, or P-51B to P-51D)

Although maybe the pics are of some totally different heli and im being a noob.

Sorry, cant find out how to post the pics!

shot in the dark jhere since I dont know jack about the KA 50, but is it possible that the guns you saw on the sides were gun pods?

if so that could be your answer [chin mount and gun pods]

just a guess

Only gun position I have seen is as BritRadarDude allready said..... just one gun on stbd side body, beneath wing root...are there alternative fits?

LOL, and that is one crappy Mi-28 model in that BF2 screenshot, comparatively speaking... :D

I get the distinct sense that several people on this forum know something that we don't :P

Actually . . . . in the last couple of days, that they know SEVERAL things we don't . . . .

Hi,

No the Ka-50 never featured a turret gun - as suggested you might be confusing the Ka-50 with the Mi-28 which does have a chin gun turret - the gun itself is the same as the one on the Ka-50 BTW.

The Ka-50 has a big 30mm cannon mounted on the starboard side of the fuselage - in addition it can carry pods with twin 23mm guns on its stub wings as seen on this screenshot:

There is only one operational Ka-50 version in service, which is the one being modelled for "Black Shark". In addition to this, there is the Ka-52 two-seat(side-by-side) night capable version and the Ka-50Sh which is a more recent(also night capable) development over the single seat Ka-50....but AFAIK both of these last mentioned versions are in prototype stage.

Or.....

He might have mistaken the Ka-50 for the new redesigned version of the ka-50-2 erdogan which does indeed sport a cannon mounted in a pod under the aircraft. :D

Ahhhh-I have two bad pics and one was of the mi28. I didnt think that was a ka-50 at first. The one i had i question was of that erodgen or what ever. The second version of the Ka-50. That clears some things up.

I also think we are in for some suprises for BS!

I would like to add some fuel to the fire::music_whistling:

Olgerd was observed questioning a RL F-15C pilot on a foreign forum in the last days.

He gathered insider knowledge about the Eagle´s center console A/G button, the VI mode logic and the modes AUTO, CDIP, DIRECT and MANUAL...:smartass:

Wolverine - that does not even come close to what warthogmadman suggested:

gun is mounted under the nose of the aircraft, like a chin turret

....nor is it a pod, but rather a case of moving the gun to folding bracket assembly under the belly :)

I am aware of this proposed version, but it is even further from operational status than the two versions I mentioned. The Ka-50-2 "Erdogan" was designed specifically for the Turkish tender(hence the name) for a new attack helicopter - IIRC the tender ended with Turkey choosing an upgraded version of the AH-1 Cobra instead.

Well that's what Olgerd does - collecting information about avionics/WCS of aircraft :) . So I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that this has any relevance to the "Black Shark" title.

Now that I keep looking at this bad and fuzzy pic i really cant tell exactly which heli i am looking at. All i wanted to know was it a ka-50 and with some of the logic here i was able to determine that it couldnt have been a different version of a supposed ka-50. That being it must be some other heli, that i am unable to identify. But you are right from my reasoning, the guns cannot be pods, they are phisically attached.
