Today I added some extra RAM sticks to my PC.

When I started a mig21 mission, I got the anouncement that my CD key was no longer valid due to "significant changes in hardware".

So I had to re-activate, but it seem like this cost me one of my limited number of installations.

Will I lose one activation every time I change something to my hardware?

Because I plan to change more hardware in the future to keep my PC up to date...

This worked for me:

Same problem as OP.

After replacement of HDD MiG-21 demanded new activation. It was the only module, which need reactivation, ED and Belsimtek modules work fine.

I tried both automatic and manual activation. When I press “OK” button activation window stop responding.

On ED website in personal section, I have MiG-21 marked as “Active”. But game still requests activation every time I start ANY mission.

Problem solved.

I used solution provided by user Grem in RU part of the forum.

http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2237094&postcount=18

I repeat it here in English in case someone else wants to try this method.

You need manually delete Windows registry branch "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Leatherneck Simulations".

Please note: downloaded .reg file from ED website (http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/faq/activation_wiki/) will not work.

Follow these steps. Warning! Doing so will consume one activation.

  1. Press Win+R. Type in “regedit” (without quotes). Press Enter.
  2. Find and open “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE”. Inside it find and open “SOFTWARE”.
  3. Find and select “Leatherneck Simulations”. Double-check everything!
  4. Right click on “Leatherneck Simulations” and select “delete”.
  5. Close Windows registry editor. Start any mission in DCS and activate MiG-21 module.

I heard that every month tere will be automatic addition of 1 activation per month until it will be again 10 if this activations are not used during that period, is this true?

No.

This is how it works.

The day you use your last activation, making your available activation count reach zero, a 31 day countdown begins. After 31 days, one new activation is added, bringing your available activation count to one. You will not gain any additional new activations until you use that one.

When you do use that activation, the 31 day countdown will begin again and at the end of 31 days your activation count will rise to one.

Once you have used your original ten activations, your activation count will never be greater than one.

ah, this is a good solution, I guess not many people will change hardware several times per month....

So, I thought this issue was fixed after I initially repaired DCS World, but that is not the case.

I again tried to fly the VAEO Hawk in a quick mission and was asked for the DCS: Mig-21 serial key and lost another activation key for the Mig-21, in which the the activation program froze after I re-entered the key and I had to restart my system.

The only change to my system since I initially posted about this issue was uninstalling a simple software program as well and I am running Windows 8.1 if that is of any help.

I didn't have the good sense to capture screenshots at that moment, but I can repeat the process and upload them.

Normally, I would post this in the Hawk forum, but it is the DCS: Mig-21 authentication program appearing and I am losing keys to this every other day and inconveniently, unable to fly the VAEO Hawk as well.

I didn't have this issue with 1.2.15 for what it is worth and I hope somebody can help me out with this. :(

I'll replace your key.

Not working

****FIXED****

For future reference if anyone encounters the problem:

Disable & delete the MiG through the module manager and clear it from your PC's registry using this file: http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.co...ation_data.reg

Then, run the DCS repair installation file and, re-install & reactivate the MiG through the module manager.

Unfortunately the link you provided doesn't work for me. I get the "404 Cannot open page" message. Any other thoughts as this is identical to what you had. Thanks.

Cobra847,

I have just started having the issue with the MIG-21bis key. It took me awhile to find this thread on your section of the forums. In the process of getting the issue corrected I used up two activations. Any possibility I can get those restored?

Well, just like you, I did not add any new hardware to my PC. However, I have a working theory that some unrelated software I installed, registered as a hardware change and may have caused this. Why it impacted my DCS Mig-21 installation, I have no idea, but that's what it looks like.

Also, I have attached the file your looking for, I kept it around just in case. :)

After finally moving to the Leatherneck Forum I was able to find a working link that Cobra847 had posted in a thread regarding this issue. With that I was able to get the issue resolved, but at the expense of two activations.

Me too - am now down to 5 activations

Cobra, what information is required in order to make an activation count restore request?

Like a number of others, I have had to delete from the registry then re-activate several times without having made any changes to the h/w config of my PC.

I did the full module disable/remove, then registry fix, then re-install and activate sequence as above so am now flying again. However I'm now down to 5 activations. Fingers crossed that this one will last a bit longer.

Same issue as everyone and lost an activation to reactivate.

No hardware change made recently.

I just remember having installed Saitek ruder pedals DRIVERS and SST software last week (I have the hardware for a long time). The installer detected the pedals (new hardware ?). That may be a possible explanation.

I added 4 extra gigs of ram to my PC and I get the same problem except the authenticator crashes.Every time it says "Activation is successfully completed. License parameters:

Activations left: 8"

I click OK and it crashes. It does this every time and now I cant fly the MIG 21

EDIT: Just used Platypus's fix and its working again.

I've got the same problem, I reported the failure via the activation error report email. Attached the log. "significant hardware change detected" though I don't know what it was.

Can't play Mig 21, not sure what caused this problem and haven't got a response to the email I sent a week ago. (not sure if I was supposed to)

EDIT:

To be more clear, I get the error that my key is no longer valid due to "significant hardware change detected" I attempt to reactive, my key is already populated and I reactive. It gives me a success, saying I have 6 more available. But then it loops back to the same error and says "significant hardware change detected." I follow the same process, it still shows that I have 6 activations, it never counts down (thankfully I guess) but I'm at a loss.

I've unchecked the module, repaired DCS, reactived the module. Don't know what happened. Everything was working fine and then bam!

Can't play.

I get that piracy is a problem. I can't stand them either, but this punishing of legit customers, who've paid hundreds of dollars on this sim is just......well.

I suspect this issue is buried so deep in the Mig-21 code that the folks at LS are having some difficulty locating it and correcting it. The work-around takes care of the issue but it is evident the underlying cause has not. And of course those of us that had the problem lost activations while trying to figure out what was going on. hopefully LS will do us right.

Last week I built a completely new system from scratch. before I did this however, I downloaded all the installers for DCS world and all the modules. I never bothered to un-bind the keys off the last hard drive even though I have posts about having to do this by some forum users before a key can be activated on a new computer.

Long story short. Download the installers, remove dcs world and rename the saved games dcs folder. Install the modules and dcs world again and wella. It works every time, all the time no matter what hardware you change or upgrade.

Then copy the data from the saved games dcs folder back over to the new saved games folder so you don't lose your campaign status3

Any clean build will work just fine. It is when you change hardware without a clean Windows install, that the problem can occur. Without any exiting registry entries, there can't be any conflict.

You also used up an activation, since you did not deactivate on your old machine.

Same here.

After updating the BIOS, the MIG-21 module, asks for activation and it says "Activation is successfully completed. License parameters:

Activations left: 8"

I click OK but I have to do kill the process via Task Manager. The activation program hangs on.

Resolved deleting the key in the register, but I loose 2 activation in the process, the 2 times that I have to kill the process.

In another Bios update, I haven´t got any problem with any module.

Well it's now just over 30 days since the last time I had to re-activate and it's gone again.

No computer changes but another activation up the spout. I'm now down to 4.

.....of diminishing activations whenever you keep the Mig-21 bis module in your stable. I feel fairly confident from what we've seen from LS, they will address our issue and do right by us. Be patient, if possible.

Yeah will try that tomorrow as I thought it was resolved but have had it come back 2-3 times now with requiring activation. Thanx :D

Ouch! Just got burned by the Mig-21bis again. Now it won't activate because it has finally taken ALL my available activations. 31 days and counting I suppose. ED says not their problem and haven't heard a peep out of Leatherneck.
