Just got out of the hospital after a motorcycle accident. My Saitek X55 has arrived and I am ready to start training. I'm currently running through the DCS world tutorials in the Su25T. I'm stuck on the easy landing. It says to keep the circle centred on the virtual plane on the HUD, I do that but I just go further and further away from the waypoint. Navigation is most likely an extremely important skill to learn, but I'm just not getting it. Can anybody please share a guide which explains everything.

While I'm here, does anybody know why the FC3 module has no similar tutorials. I'd love to learn to fly those planes too.

Finally managed it. Also managed to land, it was a crappy landing but a landing nonetheless. Thanks for the help guys. I'll keep on practicing this before I move on to weapon systems.

Best wishes to your recovery!

There are tutorials for every FC3 plane in DCS, you can download the manuals from the eagle dynamics website or by just by googling, also some guides on here and steam has a great guide in the su25.

SU25 is a fun plane, try the SU25A if you have flaming cliffs 3, personally I prefer it than the 25T. Also the F15 is a very fun plane to fly and learn, lots of custom user missions once you're good enough.

That tutorial series is what made me get into simming and DCS actually. I watched the first 6-7 or so a few years ago but the series was not finished. He just finished the last ones not so long ago.

I've got a few hours in the Su-25T now, but that ball on the HUD I have yet to completely understand. I normally just fly the needles on the HSI

If you are new to realistic simulations, it can take... years. Things like controling the speed with the stick (and trim properly to keep it) and the vertical speed with the throttle use to take by surprise the newbies and it takes time to wire the brain properly to do so.

I am anticipating this. All my game time is going to be in this game for now. I have already purchased another two modules. Fortunately, my injuries mean i have time off work to practice more. Unfortunately they also mean holding back on the hardware purchases I was looking forward to making. I am determined to get good, however long it takes .

If you haven't already, check out my checklist i made for the SU-25T http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=144219

I hope that will help once you get the basic flying skills under your belt!

btw, i rarely use that HUD indication for landing.

It's all about setting up a stable glide path, and then managing your speed to the airport. A lot of people (in sims and when learning to fly in real life) have the idea of a carrier landing as the way you land aircraft. I.E. nose at a high angle and dragging the aircraft in. That is not how it's done .... unless you actually are landing on a carrier and need the tail hook.

Real world, pilots don't land in the first 100 ft of the runway either. We usually land 500 - 1,000 ft down the runway. So don't worry if you float down the runway a bit. ... that's why they make 'em really long :P

I like to keep the SU-25T at about 280kph over the numbers (very beginning of the runway) with a nose down attitude. Then, when i start seeing the runway off to the side, flare nice and slowly.

That video i have at the bottom of the link with the checklist has a pretty good landing at the end of it. Feel free to give it a view!

Any other questions, feel free to ask

Hey Bai.

Hope everything heals well.

Shoot me a PM if you need someone to show you around the FC3 planes.

I'm pretty well versed in all of them aside from the Su-25s.

I can also get you up and running in the P-51D, F-86F, or A-10C (though there are some much more qualified folks out there for the A-10C ;) )

Can I pick your brains guys?

I have trained up on the SU25T and all is good. Now I have bought FC3 and i am learning other aircraft.

Does anyone know why the downloadable video tutorials do not work on my DCS?

I downloaded the Eagle tutorial for FC3. When I open it it doesn't see my copy of DCS.

Is this because I have a Steam copy?

Until you get it worked out you can watch those on youtube also. Less storage on your PC.
