Does the Mi-8 Throttle Up / Down (RCtrl+Home or RCtrl+End) function similar as the Huey's Emergency Governor does for emergency power, increase rotor RPMs when needed?

How much use does the Mi-8's Throttles get used during flight?

Deciding the need to map buttons for this function.

Not sure I understand what you mean but I will have a go anyway, I never touch the throttle during flight. Not sure about the emergency thingy.

Very rare I touch the throttle once it is set and engines are running normally. Afaik it has no governor like the huey

ofc it has governor. Mi8 also have in case of emergency if governor fails 2 leveres right from pilot's collective. Those are for to manually manage throtle.

It has governor, and, as a result, You only need to touch the throttle twice per flight - after startup and before the shutdown (in normal circumstances). I don't recall any emergency regimes in it though.

No.

None*.

*Okay there is one time. When practicing autorotations, the throttle is rolled to idle in-flight to simulate a dual engine failure. The throttle is brought back to full right at the completion of the autorotation, hopefully well before contacting the ground.

Alphaonesix on which variant of Mi-8 are you performing autorotations. Throttle down the mtv isn't good idea. The generators are powered by the engines not by the reductor like in old Mi-8. I recall my father saying that there is some button that detaches reductor off the engine so the generators are still runnin

The main generators are turned by the transmission which is turned by the engines or the main rotor. If you have a dual engine failure you will not have a power loss unless you droop the rotor, because in an auto rotation the blades keep spinning.

MI-17MTV manual

2-49 Transmission

Two AC generators, two rotortachgenerators, two hydraulic pumps, and an air

compressor are mounted on and driven by the transmission.”

2-17 Engines

“The rear output shafts of the engines are connected, via a uniball coupling, to

the main transmission, which transmits power to the main rotor, AC generators, tail rotor, and accessories.”

I hope the Russians were not stupid enough to build a variant with the generators running off the engines.

hmm so i thought that there is no big difference in between mtv1 and mtv2. Looks like ther is. And yes they have built the generators powered off the engines in mtv1

There is no difference (regarding the powertrain) between the MTV1 and MTV2.

Perhaps you are referring to the older TV2-117 powered Mi-8's, which had starter-generators mounted on the engines.

EDIT: Alright, now that I have my ducks in a row...

All Mi-8/17 helicopters with the TV3-117 engines have air starters on the engines that are started with bleed air from the APU. Electrical power in flight is provided by two AC generators mounted on the main gearbox (and from there it is transformed/rectified for all aircraft systems). The Mi-8MTV-1 and Mi-8MTV-2 are both powered by TV3-117 engines.

Older Mi-8 helicopters equipped with TV2-117 engines had starter-generators mounted on the engines instead of an air starter. The engines are started by battery power through the starter-generators. In flight, DC power for the helicopter is provided by the two engine-mounted starter generators, and AC power is provided by a single AC generator mounted on the main gearbox. The main helicopters in this family are the Mi-8T and Mi-8P.

Note the "like a huey"

I will take AlphaOneSix answer as being right

Yes, I see the two governor switches on the AP center console.

Thanks to all for the replies concerning my question.
