The 'no bvr' thing could make for a fun event maybe as an occasional treat. The furball in the middle of the map would be fantastic! Maybe do something like over the weekend, one server reset on the friday, saturday, and sunday will be a no bvr one (at different times to cater for timezones etc)

Let's say I consider AIM120, AIM7, R77, R27ET/ER long range.

Let's say I consider AIM9 and R73 medium range

 

How would you categorize all these air to air missiles on the picture?

I don't know all of them and especially the ones from the mirage.

I need some help from specialists :)

The mirage is so jacked up banning any weapon would make it even more unplayable

The longest range missile 530D is only good at about 7-10NM 13 or 14 if you have a miracle impact and speed and altitude and don't loose lock lol

Gar-8 - F86 Sabre and F5E

R3R/R3S - Mig-21 (not sure if these are classed as BVR...)

 

You'd be lucky to explode in the vicinity of a flying barn with those, or fly without breaking radar lock. They are more or less radar guided reverse-engineered AIM-9s with slightly longer range (7isch km if I remember correctly).

I most definitely see a SAM launch. Your FPS must be single digits with those procedurally generated trees and grass.

Me too, I’m afraid for the targeted aircraft in your last picture!

 

As for the missiles, based on my MiG-21 experience, I would classify the R3R/R3S as short range weapons. In fact, my R-60s were able to fly further than R-3s! I like the R-3 for their powerful warhead however.

Team Score board

 

  • Added a team based score board
  • type '-score' in chat
  • Board contains team based score and stats

Close Quarter Combat Modes

 

  • Skynet is now suporting 2 CQC Modes: Short Range Only and Guns Only
  • When the map is properly setup, one of the mode can be activated
  • When a CQC mode is activated, Skynet will warn the player with an audio message after the welcome
  • The MOTD popup will also warn the player about the mode
  • AI CAPs will also obey the restriction (part of the map setup)
  • Mission name, that you can see in the lobby, will be marked CQC-SR or CQC-GO.

 

Tacview Message

 

  • For those who don't know, the server is running on a machine donated by Vyrtuoz, the creator of Tacview (tacview.net)
  • He helps me with Open Conflict and I help him with Tacview
  • To promote his awesome tool that I use for mission debug and flight review, I've added a 'Review your flight with tacview.net' message
  • Like the welcome message, the tacview message will be played only once per session, on the respawn after the first kill suffered
  • I hope this will encourage people to at least test the free version!

Delivery Missions

 

Mirknir I'm sure you have stats, but are people doing a lot of the delivery missions? I thought I would like doing them, but I've found otherwise.

 

On the new map I used to do the Blue Forward Carrier whenever I was around for restart. It took two trips in the Huey, but only 15nm so who cares. But then I had nothing to do around the carrier. Sometimes a pilot would be on the cruiser, but even when I'd pick him up, it was better to go inland to a safe house and then on to the FOB. Better meaning: I'd find more stuff to do with little downtime. So now I don't do the carrier much any more.

 

For the rest of the places that need deliveries I would need to fly a long ways to pickup supplies, or respawn in a new aircraft. I hate respawning because, well as you saw above, I like to see how long I can live.

 

Not sure I've ever supplied the field hospital, although I have dropped off pilots there.

 

So mostly what I do on the current map is spawn at the Blue FOB. There I am immediately greeted with a bunch of safe houses that need pickups. While I am doing those, usually PVP pilots are dropping around that same area.

 

Is there some change, other than not flying a Huey (Huey is Life), that I can make to my play style to be able to do more of the deliveries? It would be nice if supplies, maybe in limited quantities or random intervals, spawned at the FOB. And I'd love to take pilots to the Forward Carrier more, but it seems like the FOB is always closer, and those boys need medical care most rikki tik.

I am not sure I understand the entirety of the feedback but here is some stuff I can say about the map and my design intentions:

The features

 

  • Lots of people are doing deliveries but yea rescue and captures are more successful.
  • Rescue/capture are more dynamic and since it's linked to actual players crashing so I am not surprised the fantasy is greater.
  • Deliveries are more static and chills and give another purpose to fly around with your heli
  • Deliveries might be more fun for MI8 pilot because they are lots of cargo and can do a lot of them without having to come back to base
  • Explosive Packs 'Deliveries'
    • Not everyone knows about this feature but this can be a lot of funs
    • You pick up explosive packs and you go place them on road to ambush convoys or on objective to just destroy them
    • Explosive pack pickup point are more numerous than delivery pickup so you might not have to do a full trip back home to reload.

     

The design intents:

 

  • Deliveries are designed to be a trips 'Home Base -> Conflict Zone'
  • Rescues/Captures are designed to be trips 'Conflict Zone -> Home Base'
  • I thought about adding dynamic aspects to deliveries but it always ended up resembling rescues as trips 'Conflict Zone -> Home Base' with just a different cargo
  • Something missing for deliveries is more sea deliveries, maybe these cruisers could be delivery drop off

  • It's also ok to not find deliveries fun ; it has been designed to be different from rescues

 

The map

 

  • The forward carrier is the closest rescue drop point for a rescue/capture happening at sea (around 20km)
  • The FOB is more than twice as far from cruisers ships (around 60km)
  • Maybe flying over sea seems longer and more boring :)
  • It's also true that rescue/captures happening at sea are totally player driven. If no-one goes over sea to die, no events will be created
  • Don't forget Gelendzhik airport, it's dedicated for helicopters and is a viable spawn point to go do these rescues

 

 

and yea, you are wrong.... Huey is not life, Su27 is!

Put some guns and rockets on it and shoot stuff.

 

I did that today! Me and an amazing pilot Hummel and other guy whose name I foolishly can't remember did a 3 Huey gunship flight to the Listening Post. Then Hummel and I returned to finish it off (I didn't know to attack the buildings next to the towers, I was attacking the towers). A hilarious bit of fail where me and the other guy crashed our choppers trying to do a rescue; Hummel had to rescue us. Then we reshipped and flew on to take out the Spec Ops incursion without dying.

 

Don't get me wrong though, I'm not complaining about being bored. I'd fly Medevac all day, it is a lot of fun. I was just trying to understand why I couldn't get into deliveries which also seemed to be my bag.

Thank you it does help to better understand what the possibilities are. I'll mostly stick with the Medevac and gunship and leave the deliveries to the Mi8s.

  • Prepare to adjust your strategies
  • The warehouse system is kind of pain so don't hesitate to report any oversight from my part

Nope.

 

I know you are going to say 'datalink gnagna yada yada blah blah blah' but AWACS is also the only IFF and sometimes awareness tool for some aircrafts.

Without ET, the combo stealth/IR should be less lethal.

 

But we will see.
