klem Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 On startup from the desktop icon nothing appears to happen for quite a while suggesting it was not double clicked. In fact it is starting with no visible indication but the temptation is to try to start it again. Can a splash screen be put up immediately it is started? Also when joining in multiplayer there is a long period of black screen before the next screen opens suggesting it has crashed. Can that be fixed too please? klem 56 RAF 'Firebirds' ASUS ROG Strix Z390-F mobo, i7 8086A @ 5.0 GHz with Corsair H115i watercooling, Gigabyte 2080Ti GAMING OC 11Gb GPU , 32Gb DDR4 RAM, 500Gb and 256Gb SSD SATA III 6Gb/s + 2TB , Pimax 8k Plus VR, TM Warthog Throttle, TM F18 Grip on Virpil WarBRD base, Windows 10 Home 64bit
Ranbi2Delta Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 Agreed. This would be a great addition. "What's that goat doing up here in the clouds?"
Viersbovsky Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 Not a dealbraker, but would be nice if fixed. Callsign "Lion"
OnlyforDCS Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 Not really an issue on my end. But I have an SSD and the game loads lightning fast. Suchacz Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 In fact it is starting with no visible indication but the temptation is to try to start it again.I agree But I have an SSD and the game loads lightning fast.I have SSD also, but it takes about 25 sec. from clicking an OB icon to the "DCS series" loading screen. OnlyforDCS Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 I agree I have SSD also, but it takes about 25 sec. from clicking an OB icon to the "DCS series" loading screen. Then there is something potentially wrong with your system. On my system it takes 2 to 3 seconds tops. What are your system specs/operating system? dburne Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 Then there is something potentially wrong with your system. On my system it takes 2 to 3 seconds tops. What are your system specs/operating system? Mine takes around 7 seconds from the double click to the initial screen, on my SSD. I agree with the OP, it would be nice to have some sort of indicator the double click took. Just the spinning circle would work. I know at times I can double click too fast or slow on a program and it does not start. Thankfully though my TIR light coming on gives me an indication my double click took correctly. OnlyforDCS Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 I believe that the more modules you have the longer it will take to load. Could be. Currently only have the Mig21, FC3 and L39C installed. RzTen1 Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 Mine takes about 10 seconds from when the update window disappears to the 'DCS World' start-up screen. I've got 15 modules loaded. It doesn't look like there's a ton of disk activity on startup, but the thread seems to hold at 100% on one CPU the whole time. Perhaps it's CPU bound?
fltsimbuff Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 I am on a fast M2 SSD, and an i7 running at 4GHz and it takes about 10 seconds for the splash screen to load. According to process monitor it spends that time loading luas and textures for all installed modules. I am just more careful now clicking the icon and let it take its time. It is more than worth it once it starts up :).
Koriel Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Irregardless of number of modules, ssd or other factors. Once you have clicked the icon for 1.5 it should show something while it's loading everything in the background. That can't be too difficult to change. I have tried to start DCS a few times in a row as well since nothing seemed to happen. In my case it takes between 15 and 20 seconds with all modules installed on a 3 year old ssd.
