Another quote from the same article, just to be prudent:

Sources say the sound of an explosion can be heard on the cockpit voice recorder -- although that still does not conclusively point to a bomb.

Not about the crash itself but related, the Egyptian Army is doing the security at airports in Egypt so that Russian tourists can go back home.

"Our Egyptian friends have already taken steps [to provide additional security measures], the military took control of the passenger processing to the flights. They are deployed in Sharm el-Sheikh and other airports and minimize uncontrolled activities that took place in several airports, according to the tourists' comments," Dvorkovich said.

"Communications between ISIS leaders in Raqqa, Syria, and persons in the Sinai Peninsula included boasts about the downing of a Russian passenger jet over the area, NBC reported on Friday, citing unidentified U.S. officials. “They were clearly celebrating,” NBC Nightly News quoted a U.S. official as saying. The “chatter” included a boast of taking down the plane on Saturday and how it was done."

I personally couldn't care less about CNN, BBC, and Cameron's opinion.

Moscow, although not perfect, is much, much more credible source of information these days ... sorry ... :)

You're welcome to believe that, as that is your opinion. But i can't help but laugh.

Let me recap (after having used Google translate): A couple with fake Russian passports smuggled a bomb aboard the aircraft but then left the airport, and their whereabouts and identity are unknown. Correct so far?

I thought airlines all around the world had stopped taking on luggage from passengers that didn't actually board the plane after a bombing in the 80s (Lockerbie? I think so).

That would be quite strange indeed... if they presented the luggage... it would mean the two people would have to be booked in into the passenger's list, so when entering the plane, wouldn't they be checking if everyone got in, and they would do this by checking who's on the boarding list and who past the last check-in counter to get onto the plane? I would think they would have to check/look for them... probably even find it suspicious? hmm

US officials are said to be "99.9 per cent certain" that the Russian passenger flight that was downed over Egypt killing hundreds on board was downed by a terrorist bomb.

CAIRO - Investigators of the Russian plane crash in Egypt are "90 percent sure" the noise heard in the final second of a cockpit recording was an explosion caused by a bomb, a member of the investigation team told Reuters on Sunday.

There were lots of strange goings on in Egyptian airport security. People paying to bypass security to avoid waiting etc. There was nothing orthodox about the way the security was being ran.

I don't really understand that "avoid waiting" part. I mean, the plane is going to depart with you anyways.

This is not true. Everybody gets checked. Only diplomatic pouches and diplomats do not get security checks.

Just to add to what WildBillKelsoe said, some years ago I traveled with a group that had both diplomats, people on official duty and non-diplomats, from Russia to Egypt and back.

Not only they checked everyone's check-in and hand luggage thoroughly, we had to do all the security procedures like everybody else. On top of that, they even held us up for longer to get all the confirmation and clearance that the documents were real and all that. This was in 2010. While I can concede that things have changed to some extent, the stuff people are describing sounds crazy.

I would advise everyone to just stick to the official reporting at this point. All kinds of newspapers and officials from all over the world are pointing fingers and giving their two cents, but whatever they think or believe or have a hunch towards does not mean anything at all without official confirmation.

Russia (airline owner), Egypt (departure airport and crash site), Ireland (aircraft owner) and the United States (engine manufacturer) are the main parties involved in the investigation. Let's be patient and hear out what the official investigation has to say before jumping to conclusions.

Russian plane crash in Sinai a terrorist attack - Russian Security Service

The Russian plane crash in Sinai, Egypt, was caused by a terrorist attack as traces of explosives have been found in the wreckage of the plane, Federal Security Service director Aleksandr Bortnikov told President Vladimir Putin.

“We can say that that [sinai plane crash] was a terror act,” Bortnikov told Putin. According to the FSB chief, experts analyzed passengers’ belongings as well as the parts of the plane. “After the examination on all these objects, we have found traces of a foreign-made explosive substance,” Bortnikov said.

“During the flight, a homemade device with the power of 1.5 kilograms of TNT was detonated. As a result, the plane fell apart in the air, which can be explained by the huge scattering of the fuselage parts of the plane,” he added.

This not the first time that Russia has faced “barbarous terrorist crimes, more often without apparent causes, outside or domestic, as it was with the explosion at the railway station in Volgograd at the end of 2013,” He added: “We haven’t forgotten anything or anyone. The murder of our nationals in Sinai is among the bloodiest crimes in [terms of] the number of casualties.”

But Russia won’t be “wiping tears from our soul and heart,” he said. “This [tragedy] will stay with us forever. But this won’t stop us from finding and punishing the culprit.”

Vladimir Putin has vowed to find and punish the culprits behind the Sinai plane attack. “Our military work in Syria must not only continue. It must be strengthened in such a way so that the terrorists will understand that retribution is inevitable,” he said.

The Federal Security Service director also announced a reward of $50 million for information on those behind the terror attack on the A321.

The Russian president asked the Foreign Ministry to “call on all our [foreign] partners” to assist in the search for the terrorists behind the attack. “We look forward in the course of this work to [help from] all our friends, including in finding and punishing the criminals," he added.

Russia will act in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter, which provides for countries’ right to self-defense, Putin said. “Those who attempt to assist criminals should be aware that the consequences of such attempts will be entirely their responsibility,” he added.

The Kogalymavia A321 air crash took place over the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt on October 31. All 224 people on board the plane were killed, making it the deadliest air accident in modern Russian aviation history.
