Is it possible to add aircraft wreckage to the map? I want to create a search and rescue mission where a pilot has crash landed. Do I need to download custom object files?

Ok, I found I can use the static object to place aircraft. If I set to 'Dead', there's very little visible wreckage. If I untick Dead, the aircraft is like new. This will do. Although, somewhere in between these two states would've been ideal.

A dead tank unit looks pretty good. It still resembles a tank. :)

You could also try placing a low flying AI aircraft and then triggering it to explode. Alternatively have it shot down by something and then despawn the attacker once the plane is hit.

Since most aircraft nose in when shot down you could just pick your spot on the map and use the explosion in zone action.

The black mark on the ground might be sufficient to give the impression of a crashed aircraft.

What do you mean by "between the two"? Is it about "freshness" or "wholeness"?

The above solutions will provide you a nice, brand new smoke column with barbecue-ready, still hot wreckage.

However I don't think there is currently a solution to add a not-so-destroyed wreckage (e.g. slight landing mishap with fire or rusty abandoned airframe, that kind of stuff) :/

Don't think I've ever seen an AI belly land a plane but obviously could be wrong. I believe they will either make it home or eject and crash.

You could park a static aircraft on the spot and then do a mission start trigger to explode the unit and fiddle with the explosion strength (probably around 3-12 from my experiments with writing the flak script and but you won't get a wheels up belly landing, you might get a wheels down forced landing and abandoned look with a strength 1-3) to get the look you want.

Alternatively you could use Lilkiki's fireobjects mod and particularly the variant I made (see fireobjects thread http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=2545192&postcount=39) with small, medium and large fires and place a static aircraft, place a small fire object at the same place and do a mission start trigger to explode the fire object with sufficient strength to destroy the static aircraft. The advantage to this method is that the smoke will stay around a lot longer - like an hour or so.

Good suggestions with the explosion. I was using a parked aircraft with a couple of white smoke markers.

I tried spawning an aircraft with no fuel but the crew eject. It's one of the cool little things I love about IL-2 series. The AI pilots will often try to put a damaged aircraft down safely in a field.

Thanks again for the tips.
