I don't believe add Crimea is really possible doing together with Black Sea. The problem is when ED add the new building models to Black Sea (I guess so), the amount of high quality models will make a higher memory usage, so if you add Crimea will be a no way for game performance. The best solution is make the South-East Ukrania plus Crimea as a new made map. Did you notice there are navigation stations around there?

So you think that all the models placed onto a map are loaded into memory at the same time no matter how far (even more than hundreds of miles) they are away?

I'm also eager to see Crimea back, there were lots of interesting places recreated pretty accurately. You can check out a nice tour with lots of landmarks in this video:

I remember it was an object quantity issue with the old 32 bit engine, that removed the Crimea area back in 2008, when the Georgian conflict was the current event. Now with EDGE at present it will be great if the dev team could bring all those objects back. Especially with the recent events that happened the last 2 years, this area can generate a lot of interest in the community and also bring in new people to DCS World.

Hey devs: Release a map editor and the community will fix a small Vietnam or Afghanistan map withing a year or so. Or maybe some islands in the Pacific...or some inland map of deepest Africa, who knows?

Do not release a map editor and we will only have Las Vegas as an exciting new venue for adventure. For all eternity.

What's the problem? I mean, seriously - is the map editor Top Secret?

I can have it but then you must kill me?

Well one reason is it is expensive. I think it was somewhere in the $10,000 range for the program. Also I think they have a set quality standard.

Idk that's just what I think are some of the reasons why

EDIT: Disregard this message, I have no insight on why they don't want people to have the tools.

+1 for Crimea.

Would add alot to the default map.

At end of day its always going to be the primary map for multiplayer, due to it being free. Therefore it should benefit from a proper edge upgrade.

Imho buying maps is as already stated a very good way to split MP community. Charge should be for official campaigns on these map only, not the terrain themselves.

The charge doesn't split the community if the community likes the maps, and is willing to spend a very small amount on expanding their horizons. What it does mean however is that there will be more maps in the future because it will provide ample incentive to 3rd party devs.

To suggest we ought to get free maps will just mean we get no new maps. How the community uses them is entirely a different matter, and up to the VA Squadrons and server hosts.

What I would however suggest is that genuine VA Squadrons ought to be able to apply to ED or their 3rd party brethren and get either a substantial discount, or preferably a free licence to use on their server. But that of course is an entirely different matter.

Back on topic...

I am sure we'd all love to see the Crimean peninsula and it's environs upgraded, and the whole of the Caucasus treated to a make over. So, yes, +1 to that from me.

It is however, correct. Wags was asked, and there are no immediate plans to do anything with the Caucasus apart from making it work in 2.0. Never say never though!

Words of wisdom, right there! And yes, I'd be most willing to pay for new maps. Making maps is work, work must be rewarded. That's how things...work ;)

(sorry all for barging in on this topic, I've said my piece now)

I wouldn't mind donating if ED started a Crimea Kickstarter so that it could be free for everyone.

My 2 cents :)

Guys, it's not a matter of developing new content here, but bringing old content back.

The only other improvement, which will be feasible from a dev stand point for a free content (IMHO) will be to increase the mesh resolution of the terrain.

Posted

New content or not, it would require lots of man hours that are currently being channelled elsewhere. Add into the mix the political hot potato that Crimea remains. I'm not surprised we won't be getting it any time soon!

I just personally think its bad commercial sense.

Theatres should be a draw in: to get people to purchase modules and campaigns.

Anyway getting off topic as I leave it at that. Crimea would be a very welcome addition.

One thing I'd really like to see updated when Black Sea goes to T4 is the mesh. The visual quality of pretty much everything else is so much better than the mesh, which, especially in the mountains, is really showing its age.
