Belgium was simply overrun in WWII, it did not fight (same as few other countries). That didn't make it a neutral country. There are reasons for this but I won't go into that (its political)

That's false. 6,000 Belgian Soldiers died and 15,000 were wounded during its 18 day defense, saying they did not fight is frankly disrespectful.

Belgium did defend itself in WW2, re-read your history books Kuky! The reason it was overrun was because it's army was ineffectual due to a lack of resources - (their troops were, I am sure, just as valiant as anyone's), not because they didn't fight.

Kuky, there is really no more to be gained by fighting a lost cause. History proves neutrality is a convenience, and not a barrier if your territory happens to be in the way of strategic needs.

Any nation's best hope for a war free future is definitely not down to neutrality.

Alright, sorry for for getting that bit not correct, my recollection was that Belgium and Holland were overrun within days with not much fighting.

By the way, my comment that you don't need an army if you don't have any enemies, was on the joke side. I agree that all countries should have armed forced, but my point is that you don't need to have most of your GDP spend on them, like you know who.

I'm not too deep in canadian politics, so I'm curious what makes you think that? Your defence minister seems pretty competent or is it because of Trudeau and the rest of his government? The decision to withdraw the Hornets from Syria isn't really promising though.

Very simple reason, Trudeau our glamorous Prime Minister is a child and a coward. His resume reads like a 18 year old college drop out and he's giving money away to every country on the planet yet his own elderly are deciding between heat and food this winter, the veterans aren't getting the needed medical care they require for war based injuries and the homeless are showing up everywhere.

On top of that, he pulls out of the ISIS fight, the only way to stop the mass flow of migrants and spends billions of dollars to bring them to Canada.

Yeah, I guess I needed to vent.

Alright, thanks for answering. I think I see your point, although I'm not quite on the same page.

Sith, could you please give some guidance on the direction that this thread is supposed to take then? Because frankly, this topic is purely politics. The article you linked even stated the Super Hornet purchase is politically motivated to save face on campaign promises. Are we supposed to compare capabilities again? Because I'm failing to see the purpose if we don't talk politics...

We can talk about how the Super Hornet fits in the RCAF compared to other airframes.

Not buying Lockheed...

Legitimately, you've got me in stitches, but we can't go there, that's politics. :megalol:

well its not politics, but there are quite a few people (especially where i live) that prefer anything over Lockheed just because Lockheed is Lockheed.

other then that, I'm guessing the Canadian appreciate the engine redundancies and the fact it can handle rough landing strips, which may have played part in the considerations.

other factors may include the familiarity with the Hornet family and possibly the fact that F-18 spares can be used for the Superhornet and vice versa

Yeah but we've been over this, Super Hornet and Hornet don't share part commonality, so that's out. Canada doesn't need CATOBAR capability, and the engine reliability argument at this point is facetious given the reliability of new engines. Block 60 matches the AESA radar, already has CFTs as a tested and battle proven utility, unlike the the Super Hornet's (which have only ever flown on the Prototype demonstrator). Really Canada would be paying extra cost for an aircraft with extra capability they literally cannot use (CATOBAR).

Sure, it's nice to say "F the Man" by not buying Lockheed at this point, but the Super Hornet's a pretty poor choice if you have to buy an American 4th gen fighter.

RCAF Didnt Specify Which Block Super Hornet they are getting did they?,

They may well purchase CFTs for their super bugs, along with AWP.

I guess this isnt going to be a fantasy mockup no more? :music_whistling:
