So, we should not delete 1.2?

Sorry Im a Noob just trying to figure things out.

Nobody knows for sure but my assumption is that it shouldn't be a problem.... the downloader already looks for existing files so you don't have to redownload them.

I deleted it as did many others.

I've said this before so will say it again.

There will no doubt be a standalone 2.0 installer.

ED cant expect everyone installing it to have come to DCS via 1.2.

Some will have it as their first taste of DCS, to to expect new users to download and install 1.2 then have to download updates and install them to convert it to 2.0 isnt logical at all.

If you had any evidence to back that up I might believe it, however, there is nothing in the history of the Open Beta branch to indicate that.

Guys all we know is from the official announcement, and it specifically states one of two things will happen - either 1.5 OB or 1.2 Release, will get updated to 2.0 release. And that may depend on whether they move 2.0 to an open beta, or a stable release.

So, how many of you, who deleted v1.2, realize that you are going to have to reinstall the sim when 1.5 comes out of Beta?

With the fantastic updater I'll just convert the beta or alpha to the stable release. Even if I would decide to keep all three, the updater would copy all unchanged files and only download the changed ones.

Depends if ED releases a "web installer" for the release branch. So far, only OB (before 1.5) & OA got this.

I stand by my advice:

- Keep the release installed (currently release is the 1.2.16) unless you really need to vacate disk space now.

- If you would like more free disk space, but without time-pressure, then: when ED releases 1.5 (or 2.0) as the new release (stable) version, update release then delete OB (or OA).

those who may have deleted 1.2 have a problem

(...)

In other words, the 1.2 stable version is the only version going forward that will be updated to ultimately 2.0 "stable".

As I said: I don't know and I won't try to guess.

I'm encouraging those who ask now "should I delete my 1.2?" to keep it. Because it will be simpler for them: launch DCS, be prompted for an update, accept it, done.

For those having already deleted it, don't panic.

Worst case scenario is that you'll have to download & install again the core, and re-make (or copy/paste) relevant settings.

Best case scenarii would be if ED either:

- chooses to continue updating the branch you have, and that you keep it (they have done this for the OB branch since it appeared back in 1.2.7) => but then you stick to an "open beta" installation; works the same usually but... no guarantee.

- releases an installer for the release branch that is a small .exe to download (just as the one for the open alpha) that, when executed, will start the automatic updater (which is now able to copy/paste/check files from any branch to any other branch) => that would re-create a Release branch clean installation on your computer, with no need for a long download (as most if not all the files are already somewhere on your HDD/SSD).

Can DCS 1.2 be uninstalled?

Can DCS 1.2 be uninstalled or should I hold onto it while 1.5 is still in beta? It's just I never even start it now but I'm not sure if it's still needed.

I deleted DCS 1.2 few weeks ago. It doesn't affect 1.5 or 2.0. You can remove it as you wish.

So it won't effect future releases or anything? Can you think of anything it might effect before I uninstall it?

It's planned to update the stable version 1.2 at the end of december. If you have enough space on your harddrive, keep it installed.

From the latest newsletter:

Ver. 1.2. This is the current released (stable) version of the game that includes all modules except the Nevada DLC map and L-39. It however uses our older graphics engine.

Ver. 1.5. This version includes all the same content as Ver. 1.2, but uses the new graphics engine. At the end of December 2015, we plan to move Ver. 1.5 out of Open Beta and make it the new released (stable) version. At that time, Ver. 1.2 will no longer be updated and supported.

Ver. 2.0. This version uses the same, new engine as 1.5, but ONLY works with the Nevada DLC map at this time. We are continually updating the Nevada DLC map now using this version. For now, Ver. 2.0 is being used as a testbed for the Nevada DLC map.

Ahem... this is like the fourth thread on the topic, isn't it? ;)

Once again: the question is not "can I delete 1.2" but "should I delete the stable/release branch of DCS World (and keep only beta/alpha installations)"?

To this I answer "no, I would keep the stable/release branch of DCS World installed, as the one true supported version".

Not to mention your (well, my) friends who haven't ventured from 1.2 into 1.5 openbeta yet. Can't play on line with them with my 1.5 :(

Roll on end December :)

hahahahaha

Total confusing.

I think ED made big mistake running 3 versions in same time all community is total chaos and split.I hope be the last time that did that.

Please give us ONE VERSION OF THE GAME so all play together,we do not need one million versions.
