I am possible a noob in the Jet Area, but love Mirage have some questions about it

1.Have everyone success to shoot down a Target wit the Super 530?

I track the target with STT Mod the Missile seem's to follow and every time short before the target the missle is following out of the Sky no matter the distance. look the video from zeus

2.for what reason you would adjust the search cone of the Radar in elevation and horizontal a smaller search cone increase the Range of the Radar?

2.for what reason you would adjust the search cone in elevation and horizontal a smaller search cone increase the Range of the Radar?

Several reasons. But usally it is because of either one of these two or a combination of them:

1. Your target flood the air with chaff. The bigger the number of chaff bundles the higher the probability of a miss.

2. Your target is maneuvering trying to "hide" from the radar beam by placing itself perpendicular to it. If he manages to do that, it will become invisible to the radar thanks to a particular weakness of all Doppler radars. Objects that move perpendicular to the beam are not detected.

So, your target is maneuvering to decrease its aspect and is flooding the air with chaff. Can't blame him for trying to survive. Practice and soon you will know how to counter his actions.

The radar screen is you help here since it shows you the targets aspect vs. the beam. But don't keep the head down too long.

1. Be sure to use PSIC/PIC mode (=STT).

.

How do I switch between the different modes? The manual describes the different modes, but, as far as I could see, does not state what buttons I need to press to switch between the different modes, or where the indicator for which mode is used is located.

Another question about the radar. There is a radar warm up setting of the radar switch. How do I know when it has warmed up and is ready to use?

The easiest way I found to do it, although probably a cheat way, is to put the radar power mode to EM, use right alt-f5 to lock nearest target and then line up in HUD to the target square and press enter to lock the missle to the target.

This was just through experimenting as I have yet to come across any tutorials so just found the easiest way I could.

Hit the lock key once goes to TWS, the second time goes to STT.

2.for what reason you would adjust the search cone of the Radar in elevation and horizontal a smaller search cone increase the Range of the Radar?

A smaller search cone (Not to be confused with Beamwidth) simply allows you to search a smaller area in less time. If you are referring to Raster Scans (Bar Scans), then the higher your bar count, the more elevation area you are covering, "hands-off" if you will, at the expense of time spent scanning each individual elevation.

Range of a Radar, aside from numerous other factors, starts with an inverse function of Pulse Repetition Frequency, and Pulse Repetition Interval, in which a higher interval equates to a higher unambiguous range.

However, if you meant Beamwidth, the Beamwidth has less to do with range, and more to do with resolution at different ranges, where a small Pulse Width, and small Beamwidths in the Horizontal and Vertical, decrease the volume of a Resolution Cell and increase accuracy. In a Pulse Doppler Radar, Velocity Resolution is a factor, which is primarily dependent on PRF, in which a higher PRF leads to less blind speeds (Better Velocity Resolution) but more Range Ambiguity at longer range (In which a Return hits the Receiver before another pulse has been transmitted, leading the Radar to believe something is far closer than it truly is).

I'm still reading my source, so don't quote me on any of this, but I got the information from the "Electronic Warfare Fundamentals" supplement published in 2000. Also, I wouldn't automatically presume DCS has any of this modeled, as it's pretty complex from what I gather.

Thanks! How about my other question: how long does the radar have to warm up, and how does one know if it's ready to use?

At this time it has no warm up period.

I cant seem to get any lock tone or launch indication.

I see the small circle moves into the target but it does that at 10nm and the missile never makes it to target, ive now hit a 6nm.

It was suggested in another thread that Magic 2's lock at the aircraft boresight rather than the seeker circle - and I feel like that might be correct. Might be worth testing the theory.

Not sure if the Super is supposed to give a tone, but there's HUD indications for the DLZ. At least, I presume that's what it is, but nearly everything I've shot at has managed to wriggle out of my radar lock. :( In fact, I think my only kill so far was my very first attempt...

Anyone else noticing intermittent radar functionality? One minute it's loaded with contacts, the next you can't get anything at all on. Tried cycling distances, cycling radar power, bar search, altitudes, and I know there's aircraft where I'm pointing, yet absolutely nothing is seen.

Yeah I get that, and when I look down it has lost RDO and I have to turn it back on and then reaquire after gaining about 4nm.

I cant call any faults on this module as I know F A about the jet but I am loving it - its touchscreen next for me and await Helios plug in, I like my Radar big and bright!

Do not try to shoot from too far, the 530 is not the most modern missile, I fire at less than 4 miles head on, let's say even 3 miles, tail on I only shoot from about 2.5 miles or so. But the Mirage has all that it takes to get close to the bandit, which makes it all the more fun!

All in all i have fired about 20 530's now at a An-26B and scoring only three hits. The three that hit were all using a close combat mode lock for guidance and were fired from about 3nm away.

Really nice module tho :).

Don't forget to lock twice to go to STT before shooting 530.

For now the radar lock is target box in HUD. When missile's seeker lock you will see a small circle inside target box.

It seems there is a bug when you loose target's lock, sometimes it doesn't detect new one.

Use unlock command and it's ok.

I shot down a TU-95 at 18km(Tacview) ~10nm in game with the 530D, the first 530D was shot at ~24km and tracked the target(looked like that in tacview) but was not fast enough, the second 530D killed it. I'm going for some smaller targets now, so far i'm loving this bird!

Need some help here (I haven't gotten this far) do we get a DLZ 'bar' of some sort like in the FC3 fighters?
