bunraku Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 Hi Just got the hotas warthog so have the trim button on my stick. I am just wondering if people do long presses of the trim direction they want(and do long pushes make a difference) or do you have to do multiple button pushes to trim. So if your nose is banking down do you hold trim up for a few seconds or do you have to press trim up multiple presses for the effect?
baltic_dragon Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 Depends if you want to fine-tune or heavily trim. For fine-tuning do a few short presses, for heavy trimming push and hold. Yurgon Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 When I'm strongly off trim, e.g. after take-off, I like to keep the trim pushed and release stick-pressure at the same time. For fine-tuning and small adjustments after a course correction, I prefer single presses of the trim button.
Gliptal Posted December 26, 2015 Posted December 26, 2015 Personally I always end up overshooting if I go with long presses. I prefer single presses also because it more easily let's me use trim as intended (i.e. do not fly with the trim): I find it easier to judge how much I can relax per short press, rather than long press.
cichlidfan Posted December 27, 2015 Posted December 27, 2015 Just to add my two pennies... I find that sometimes all I want is just enough pressure to activate it for just a moment. For fine adjustments, learning just how much pressure it takes is quite helpful. Puma Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 Ive heard pilots refer to "clicks" of trim which Ive interpretted as using several small presses. Seems like its liekly more consistent to trim three clicks for x degree turn versus hold for 270 ms.
