It's all about Jet Fighter Sound

  1. 1. It's all about Jet Fighter Sound

    • Yes, some developers and sound engineers could take care of that
    • No, I prefer more and more modules, maps etc with current basic sounds

The sound in your DCS attempt is very nicely done for the environment you chose (airfield in a wide open space). It is difficult to get sound right though because sound differs vastly depending on environment e.g. it bounces like it would in those Mach loop valleys and be different again 20 clicks up and different yet again in a wide open space at 500ft AGL.

So long as the sounds are realistic / immersive in cockpit (which I believe they are in DCS 2.0) I'm happy.

Man, having sonething like in the second video you posted would just be A DREAM COME TRUE!!!...it would incredibly make the planes to "be there alive"...and with a good audio equipment with good deep bass reproduction like 20hz and below un the infrasonic it would feel like we are in the middle of a real display :worthy:

well, I agree the sound is "fine", which doesnt mean its great in any way so I think there is plenty of room for improvements and I bet they can achieve a way better sound, closer tothe real thing...

Per this thread: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=159463

In regards to the A-10, an actual pilot commented: "He said that the startup sound of the engine are right on, but from taxi on, the plane does not sound like an A10 sounds from the cockpit. He said that the DCS model sounds more like a commercial plane."

Great reading there dude!! thanks a lot...hope to hear some sound changes for the A-10 in cockpit then :music_whistling:

For me DCS sounds really unrealistic - missiles, guns, some aircraft - there's no engine roar or anything - for me better sound would add way more immersion to the sim compared to the sounds we have now

This is what I think the sound should be like

Yes, thats the "kind" of sound they should manage to achieve but that video has lots of clipping so its not a good recording...that sound well recorded and with a high dynamic range would be just magic!!

take care about Youtube exemple because you don't know the quality of recording or what sort of mic is used.

In fact attention to details in sounds is like colours or saturation, something about personal feeling.

What we need is a powerfool sound tool implemented in DCS, as said above, a little tweak in not enough.

( on first page "Actual sound system if you want to tweek it a bit depends on some general lua files. and if you do optimum job possible for one aircraft, it will crash other aircraft settings when you use soundmod in JSGME you can see what I mean ." ) JSGME say " this sound file has ever been altered by the other mod xxx"

first priority, then sound modders will offer all the subtil variation needed for all taste and all aircraft with a powerfull sound engine.

PS FMOD is the most famous and ready to go solution used by most of recent games.

with the upcoming VR trend, spatial positional audio necessary!

but it has to be integrated into DCS

https://developer.oculus.com/documentation/audiosdk/latest/

Agree 100 % on this ... guess they have many updates and future projects lined up already and they are struggling to meet the deadlines ...

But I guess some of the developers would have already thought about it...

Who knows they might even surprise us with some audio updates ...

Keeping my fingers crossed ...

Hueyman, I can't stress enough how much I admire the beauty of the jet fighter sound and how important it is to me in the sim. I couldn't agree more with you that pursuing the "proper simulation" of the jet wave is pointless - it will be years before we get this, if ever. I think the best approach to this had developers of BF4. They used prerecorded flyby sounds and blended them smoothly into static engine audios. The effect is perfect imo. Here is an example:

Here is my try to achive something similar in DCS:

I wish the sound was higher on ED priority list, but thats me.

Your attempt is pretty much perfect for what I'd like to see in terms of sound, fab work!

Thanks. It really does sound nice, sadly, it's far from perfect. The main reason is it's playing in the loop making the sound often not synchronized with the actual position of the plane in regard to the observer ( F3 camera). Also - playing in the loop in static F2 camera view makes it totally unrealistic and unacceptable. That is why I would love ED to add some new definitions to sound files -especially: loop = true / false; Doppler effect = true / false . At least just for testing for modders.

There many interesting points in this thread. I'm kind of suprised though that nobody referred to this funny famous game I mentioned- Battlefield. Sure, there are just like four or five repeating over and over fly by sounds but.. Those jets don't just ''sound'' like jets- they do sound like real jets just like on freaking airshow! What you think?

Anyways, my two cents for all the newcomers and impatient guys: what I've noticed over looong years watching ED team doing their work (since Lockon, I guess) , you can be sure of one thing - it can take ages to complete some tasks and we'll be all grandpaps by then, but, it will be done right eventually. Now lets see this air to ground radar and blow things up with the new explosions effects!
